Next Order is rough around the edges but I think it's a worthwhile entry for fans of the pet-raising style. The atmosphere and little details still aren't a match for World 1 but as far as being a video game goes it goes well beyond its predecessors with a functional combat system rather than a floppy throwing simulator. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
People seem to like Cyber Sleuth but I thought it was bogged the fuck down by terrible balancing and one of the worst professionally done JRPG translations I've ever suffered through. It has a good, solid gameplay core, maybe the best in the series, but the surrounding flesh is rotten.

Rookies can have really good/cute designs too.

There was one on PSP that got expanded and put on 3DS and they were a lot like the original World. We'll never get it, but the demand for its localization paved the way for all the games that got localized the past few years. I have no idea when a new one will come, but I doubt it'll remind us of World for at least another 15 years.

IIRC, Muchomon were bugged to be fine with charging more with Medicine for whatever reason, it's Weedmon that insist on only ever buying meat and being unhappy that you're charging it for regular price.

I remember farming so much as a kid just to get one digimon leveled up, it was absurd.

I liked the sequel. It still had some of this cryptic shit in it, like I remember one of my digimon evolving and not being able to attack because it's only attack costed more MP than it had in total. The only thing I really hated was how cheap it looked. Especially the colors were so bright compared to the PS1 game that it looked extremely cheap, but then again it was a vita port so it's to be expected.

Even with a guide there was still stuff in the game that wasn't covered like having to go through Mt. Infinity again to battle and recruit Digitamamon or the second fight with Machindramon in the Back Dimension that randomly spawns once a month in either Gray Lord's Mansion, Ogre Fortress, or Ice Sanctuary and your only clue that it's happening is a vague hint from Jijimon. That shit blew my mind. I thought my game was glitched or something.

This is one of the most unique games ever made. What a fucking classic.

It does. The Agumon standing guard in front of Ogremon's Fortress doesn't respond when you try to interact with it.
You can still get enough points to finish the game, but getting into the fortress and the machine city is impossible.

To add a modern hook playing up the AI angle and what kids know now? It had been about 15 years since Adventure when Appmon aired. The Digimon 20th anniverssary episode does do a nice visual nod to a difference between them by having a Digimon's code written in binary where as the Appmon code is written in psuedo-programming language. So they probably aimed for a "Smartphone Apps are a more modern take on the programs from ~20 years ago"

the things that really draw me are the friendship/ partner aspects with digimon, the immersive interconnected world that is tangible and vivid and the really badass boss digimon that i both struggle to defeat and unlock.

while its easy to discuss waifus and obscure forms i feel that really lacks the depth that digimon provides. some examples would be the ice village in frontier or the ninja village in adventure 2. while I feel the cyber sleuth games somewhat miss out on this detail (by having the backgrounds be essentially barren), the total contentedness of it all with missions carried out in real and digital landscapes, perfectly captures the malleable, mysterious world of digimon.

What game do I play after 100%ing Digimon World 1?

If you haven't played re:digitize or next order I suggest you do.
Re is honestly a solid a shell sequel, it fixes basically every issue with the first, but the world isn't quite as charming and there are other human characters that also have some laughable designs.
next order changes a fair amount of stuff up and has a lot of content, however unlike the other two it has a wonky as shit progression curve that honestly may make you drop it. It's a lot of fun and has a ton of digimon but it also has some rather annoying faults.
Otherwise if you've never played it, go play Jade Cocoon for the PS1

I remember finding this game very weird as a kid, it's interesting to find out I wasn't the only one who thought that - nobody else I knew had it at the time. I never got very far with it. I also didn't know a whole lot about Digimon, I was more familiar with Pokemon.

What added to the weirdness was that the bootleg copy I had played in black and white on my modchipped Playstation - I've since realised that would be because the ISO the guy burned was an NTSC copy and my PAL TV had trouble displaying that properly. Thinking back now it's like I was playing some fucked up Eraserhead version of Pokemon.

Digimon in general for me but i feel you.
I stopped cyber sleuth somewhere around chapter 13 or so a year ago and I'm one of those retards who just starts RPGs all over again if I dropped them for too long.
And I don't feel like replaying next order yet.
Maybe I just emulate world or something.

It was a fucking amazing game for my childhood.

This game is a gold mine but does not have the dedicated fanbase with qualified computer backgrounds to delve into the game's insides

Having just picked up Cyber Sleuth I've got to say, holy shit. Were Digimon games always this neat? I'd avoided them when I was younger because I wasn't into pokemon and hey, this other '-mon' is probably the same shit, right?

There's a way to glitch the game into turning your rookie into megaseadramon or andromon
there's a couple of infinite bit tricks
Think there's even an invincibility glitch.

Oh I know the infinite bit tricks,but I do the slower version which is to buy med recovery and exchange for some disks in the mojyamon and sell those and then buy med recoveries again and re do(s disks sell for more than you buy med recoveries so yeah)

Tentomon was my favorite in the show as a kid but Agumon is such a classic design.

Generally. They were all pretty different until the the digimon story games.
Only bad main line games would be world 4 and data squad, but even then worlds 1, 2 ,3 all have their own flaws.
2 and 3 in particular I recommend an emulator for. Speed-up for both, and save-scumming for 2

Digimon only needs less than 1 hour of sleep to be fully rested (no care mistakes). You don't need to sleep as soon as it asks, you can continue doing stuff until there's only a small amount of time left until its active hours begin and it stops asking for sleep.
This way you can explore much further and train much more during 1 Digimons lifespan.

They are just things that were supposed to be interactive but then were cut out of the game.Instead of outright removing it from the game,they left the whole model on it,you can see that the door has a different color than the whole fridge,which indicates that it was a movable object.

I feel Digimon games started out strong in the West with World 1, but because they changed the formula up and didn't stick to a main series like Pokemon with spin-offs on the side (until recently when they've decided to stick with Story and World games as their main series), as well as no longer being able to ride the coattails of the Pokemon phenomenon, we started getting less games besides the DS games and a few of the console ones like Data Squad and Rumble Arena 2. It wasn't until Operation Decode a few years ago that Bamco started taking an interest in localizing Digimon games again. That and the fact that more niche Japanese games are being localized due to PS4's large install base so devs are bound to find an audience no matter how niche their game might be.

While the raising aspect of the World games are nice, just getting to work towards getting a specific Digimon and not having to worry about its lifespan was a nice part of the Cyber Sluts games

It also helps that ps4 digital market is feasable.Nobody bought digital copies in the ps3.
Production costs are halved since you don't have to waste money making the physical copies.This way they know that even tho they have to spend some money hiring voice actorw and translators to localize a game,that investment is worth it

Re:degitize and next order are the same style of game, but they don't quite have the charm of the first. Music and gameplay is still solid though. Especially in Re:Digitize.

re:digitize and next order are the only other games like it.

Metal Etemon,Gigadramon and Panjyamon were bonus digimon that you'd get from doing IRL contests with Bandai.It only happened in japan.The Metal etemon and gigadramon models were made but the panjyamon one was cut.It seems they gave up on the contests after handing over metal etemon and gigadramon.
