why the fuck is mega man so hard? every time I try one of these games it's ridiculous. it's not even just regular hard it's like actual bullshit artificial difficulty. how does anyone enjoy this franchise? what's a good game like mega man that isn't bullshit.

What? You get extreme leniency for getting hit. Health drops are everywhere.
what's so artificially difficult user
The only bullshit hard Megaman games are
>Megaman X6 on hard
>
>
>
yeah that's about it
What's your problem exactly? The platforming? The bosses?
Please describe one moment in the game that was unreactable or unsurmountable, and how it was so.
Trial and error, user.
The first Wily stage in 8 falls into that category too.
>.
Rockman & Forte is horribly designed too. Dynamo Man and King are as bullshit as anything in X6.
i don't believe you are being serious
That's awful game design. I waste hours because enemies want to run into me while I climb up ladders. Stuff flies at you from off screen and kill you. Disappearing blocks that show up in such a ridiculously frustrating pattern with little time to react. Spikes that kill you in a single touch in areas where you have increased jump height while enemies are flying at you from off screen. then you finally claw your way up to the boss and you have no FUCKING health to fight him. of course the boss is a big asshole too so you really need health. run at of lives and it's lmao back to the beginning. just a huge fucking waste of my time.
this isn't just from one game in particular but all of the mega man games I've tried. and I've tried a lot of them. I have collections.
You're trying way to hard
Megaman 8 felt just right.
Mega Man 6 and Mega Man X are pretty doable for noobs. I would try those first.
And look up the suggested boss order first.
>he thinks I'm lying
No user, I'm actually not trying hard enough. I'm sure I could actually beat one of these games if I sat down and took the time but I disagree with the way they are designed. The challenge isn't fair at all. They're assfucking the player and then punishing them even harder for losing. It's not fun.
Yeah okay bro we get it megaman is the dark souls of platformers ;^)
Actually, I think Dark Souls is an example of how you should design a game around trial and error without being unnecessarily difficult. So no I don't think Mega Man is the Dark Souls of platformers.
I'll try them again. Is the first game even worth going back to? Out of all of the games I've tried that one was absolutely the most insufferable in its design. I assume because it's old and Capcom had no idea what they were doing.
>every time I try one of these games it's ridiculous
Which ones did you try?
The first game isn't that bad. The controls aren't quite as tight and getting hit does more damage than later games, but it's honestly pretty much the same.
Your enjoyment of Mega Man depends on how patient and persistent you are. You can't just blitz through levels and you most likely are going to Game Over a lot. You have to be careful and dispatch enemies before tackling platforming sections. Some levels have gimmicks that have to learned and understood before traversing them. Some enemies are best dispatched with certain robot master weapons. You have to be willing to let the game teach you how to play it.
I've played
>Mega Man
>Mega Man 2
>Mega Man X
>Mega Man 9
>Mega Man 11
and one of the zero games
To be fair you played 9 and 11 which can be harder than the average classic MM game
You should start with Galaxy Man and Tundra Man respectively
>without being unnecessarily difficult
The part where they cut your hp in half is already unnecesary. Megaman games are way better handling trial and error gameplay. Only dark souls 1 got it right
Did you play them on PS4? If yes, then no wonder.
It's just patterns, nigger. Back when megaman was popular, games expected you to try the levels over and over until you got the gist of it. It's not hard, you just expect to beat everything on your first try.
Yes, PS4. Why? Input delay?
>harder than the average classic MM game
That's fucking insane. I thought the newer games were meant to be easier.
>I thought the newer games were meant to be easier.
Oh sweet summer child
Older games have some difficult parts like 7's final boss and MM&B's King stage 2 but overall these games can give a good challenge
>Oh holy goddamn...
What is unfair? Don't just regurgitate what you said in your other post, because "enemies flying from off screen" is not unfair. Enemies appear when you spawn them by scrolling the screen. You know, how levels contain more enemies as you advance through them? Only weak, slow, one-shot-to-kill enemies will spawn infinitely, and they do so from specific and identifiable places. Not being able to climb a ladder because an enemy you didn't bother to kill attacked you is not unfair. Disappearing blocks with a very distinctive audio cue and give you all the time in the world to watch them and learn their pattern, as well as being trivial to circumvent with the right tools, are not unfair, aside from arguably Heat Man's stage. Spikes killing you with a single touch in a game with controls as precise and responsive as Mega Man, where you can jump exactly as high as you want, are not unfair. The boss pushing your shit in because you did badly at his stage is not unfair, you're supposed to improve as you play, and letting you brute force past sections you haven't learned demonstrates no improvement whatsoever.
Mega Man games can be hard for newer players but you literally just posted one of the most beginner friendly games in the entire fucking series.
11 is all about learning how to use the slow down mechanic efficiently. Once you get used to it, it becomes a lot easier. Buy E tanks and upgrades and exploit boss weaknesses.
Mega Man games are pretty short so you are meant to play levels and bosses repeatedly to get them down. The enjoyment and satisfaction comes from mastering the levels. If you're not into that, you won't like Mega Man. You not wanting to put time or effort into it doesn't make it bad design.
>why the fuck is mega man so hard?
t. Casual filtered
It isn't Except a few parts and until R&B and MMX6
>R&B
>it's like actual bullshit artificial difficulty
All of the classic games except maybe 1 are easy.
zoom zoom
Learn the level design. Learn the boss patterns. Don't see dying as failing, see it as learning what not to do.
In short, git gud.
Way to go ace detective you solved the case!
Now for the real thread everybody which megaman game is best and why is it legends?
The X games are the same thing but slightly easier.
FUCK PARTLESS RUNS
I would agree the games are hard but only
>1
>3
>8 (Wily 1)
>9 (Wily Fortress)
>&Bass
Otherwise get good
go back
Why 9's Wily stages and not 7's Wily Capsule?
It only proved that Mega Man can't work in 3D.
As a fan of the X series how do I get into the classic games?
I tried to get into some of them and it felt infinitely more tedious.
>can
fixd
3D Mega Man should be made like Vanquish with platforming
True. Although Legends were great for what it were.
If you game over at any point in 9's fortress you have to start over from the very beginning
In my head doing a whole fortress in one perfect run is more difficult than one boss
Have you tried jumping and or shooting
You should also play Mega Man 6, 7, 8, X2, X3 (SNES), X4, X6 (in short bursts), and Xtreme 1-2, and have a really good time. Also replay Mega Man 1, the best game in the whole series.
If X5 is on the far lower end of your list then you don't.
That game evokes the classic series' slower and more thought out pace.
X is an action platformer with emphasis on action. Classic is an action platformer with emphasis on platforming. Play it more like an old school platformer, it's less about speed/style and more overcoming the obstacles ahead of you with sound judgment.
Fair enough
It worked well enough to get a sequel and almost a third. Only reason it didn't was because those were the dark days of Capcom and Mega Man wasn't selling enough in general.
Legends barely even tried to translate actual Mega Man gameplay to 3D. The fact that your primary weapon fires a projectile is about the extent of it.
>mega man 2
>good
It has unironically always been worse than 1.
Oh please, if X5 evokes classic MM (and to be fair I can see what you're getting at with stages like Dark Necrobat) then you're better off just playing classic MM instead. I like both but X5's easily among the bottom as a functional but very dull entry.
Because you like Zelda more than Megaman. So do I, to an extent. Legends is based as fuck.
Sup niggers
all of you are human garbage that are never gonna get laid. hah! you should watch my stream if you wanna WHEN'S GETTIN GUD at mega man. ttyl, fucking ur mum in a bit
Play them in order and don't skip games.
Except there are numerous reasons to consider X5 bad aside from its general design philosophy, such as the actual levels themselves and extraneous features like the poorly explained parts systems, boss level ups, virus system, RNG cannon/shuttle mechanic, powerups not being shared between the characters, and the armor equip system being worse than every single X game that preceded it.
Eh, 1's skippable. Granted, you can beat that and you can make the rest of the series your bitch but on the flipside I can definitely see someone dropping the series with this advice over getting frustrated by 1. I'm not the biggest fan of 2 but it is a better overall starting point.
Every fukken tiem!
I hate hearing that a puzzle platformer side scroller is difficult.
Grew up playing OG megaman on the NES and X 1-3 on the snes.
>hur dur cuphead is hard
Nigga try metal slug on the arcade
For as many issues as 1 has, the idea of someone calling themselves a classic Mega Man fan but only having secondary knowledge of the original robot masters is a little disgusting to me.
Legends 3 was kind of Inafune's pet project he just kind of announced without really thinking it through.
It was half publicity stunt really as the reveal was premature as fuck.
When he bailed there was no one left who would bother with it.
He was both the reason it existed and died.
The future is now old man. No one actuslly plays that old shit
That is fair, and I can advocate for at least going through the robot master stages. I can forgive someone for dropping it before finishing the Wily stages though, those are some shit. One should at least try Yellow Devil but otherwise it's fine if you don't have the stomach to finish 1 before moving on.
I have to agree with this.
The game is a classic and more memorable than 2 in a lot of ways.
Even if it does have guts man's stupid fucking platforms.
you should finish the zero series desu
11's disappearing blocks are the least frustrating in the series by far.
Then you can't be considered a classic Mega Man fan, lil'zoom.
You have played every Mega Man game, right Yea Forums?
I tried megaman 1 recently for the first time. After about 2 houra, I got to the Yellow devil, and I had to look up how to beat that fucker, I just couldn't do it with the regular buster alone. But, I ended up getting to the boss rush portion of the game, and I just can't do it. Got past it once, and I shit the bed at Wiley. You are right, Megaman is hard.
The most bullshit thing about Mega Man 1 is how the boss rush consists of Bomb Man, Fire Man, Bomb Man, and Guts Man all in a row with no health recovery. No I don't know how ti fight Fire Man without just hoping he dies before I do. Though in terms of execution, dodging the Yellow Devil's attack pattern requires way more precision than pretty much anything else in the game.
Oh, and the Ice Man platforms. Those are absolute bullshit, but at least they can be easily mitigated by Magnet Beam.
One of those Bomb Mans should be Ice Man.
When you jump, wait for the fire blast to pass under you before moving left or right. If you can get passed Fire Man you should be good.
>No I don't know how ti fight Fire Man without just hoping he dies before I do
You can cheese the fight pretty easily by jumping in place while shooting him before you jump, because it'll cause him to start another attack which overwrites the flame that appears underneath you before you land.
>X5 over X6
>MM3/NT in C while MM7 is in A
You've got pretty good taste for the most part, though. Not sure if I'd put MM8 THAT high but it's definitely overhated.
only if you're playing on GBA with that horrible screen crunch
I don't think that's how that works.
Sure, any screen crunch is bad, but there's really not as much of a screen crunch as people seem to think there is going from SNES to GBA.
I never watched that guy's partless run, what's his name? May as well watch the suffering.
Hideofbeast
the sexiest right here
youtube.com
Thanks.
And to you too.
Fucking this, the other day I marathoned all the Xs and everything was fine until Shadow Devil, hard but doable, then I went into the X6 and I couldn't beat a single fucking level, like, DUDE, what the fuck.
Even Yammark? His stage is like a notch above Chill Penguin's.
what do you mega man fags think about shovel knight
What a shitty game
Playing Shovel Knight mostly made me wish I was playing Megaman instead. It's a perfectly good game that I have no strong feelings towards. Plague Knight is a lot more fun.
It's a good game. Literally the cream of gen 3 Capcom condensed in a single installment.
Good game, where the fuck is King of Cards.
i dig it
You have to go back, Carlos.
CARLOS YOU MOTHER FUCKER
>Can sit down and beat megaman 1 through 7 in an afternoon
>everytime I try to play 11 I get curb stomped
The controls feel funky and the levels are too long. Is it just me?
Yammark's stage is pretty easy and the boss fight is nearly effortless. His weapon is also pretty useful. Shield Sheldon's stage is like 45 seconds long so you should be able to beat him eventually if you keep trying.
The levels are longer but the controls might just be on you.
The controls feel fine to me but the levels do almost all feel like they should've ended about 2/3rds of the way in.
it's just you. people struggle with 11 because it's the new one. once people become accustomed to it like the other games they'll realize it isn't any harder than 9 or 10.
I actually just finally got 11 last week. I beat it in a day long marathon and was pretty impressed and satisfied. I miss endless mode though. That kept me coming back to 9 and 10 for long long after. And no Protoman or Bass playable either? Or Roll?
The levels are longer than usual. I notice lots of people who struggle with 11 just haven't got the hang of the gear system or aren't using it effectively. It's perfectly doable without but it does seem balanced around it. Other than that, are you using a different controller?
Genuinely surprised they didn't go for the easy DLC playable characters.
Hey, Battle Network fans. Which net navi do you want to see in Mega Man 12 as a robot master?
For me, it's Colorman.
I'm probably too autistic since I can feel the difference between 1, 2, and 3/4/5 and obviously 6 and 7.
It's like jumping was nerfed a bit, and whenever you get hit, you don't get enough iframes and the knockback is way too violent. I've fallen down pits like a rock after getting hit. Reminds me of 1 in that regard.
Going slow-mo just to dodge normally undodgeable things was a whole lot of fun.
>mfw I never could finish X6 because Gate was too hard for my retarded skills
MistMan
I lasted like three tries in the totem pole hell before i just went with ultimate armor
>start with Galaxy Man
Naw, do Splash Woman. Her stage is a cinch and she's the easiest to kill buster-only.
X6 is shit anyways, don't feel bad.
How do I beat 11 in an hour? How do I cut time on Bounce Man's stage? At what time should I first reach the Gear Fortress?
haha
Which level are you starting with first?
Don't die at all, and you should start with Tundra Man
35-40 minutes should be enough before reaching the Wily stages, and save and buy as less as possible because time doesn't stop when you do
Guess I could try no saving. That would be a lot to replay if I die, though.
I beat Megaman 8 recently on stream. Took me 6 hours overall. I beat 7 too.
I'd say 7, outside of the final boss battles is pretty straight forward. 8 is OK overall but it has some bullshit areas.
My skills are pretty average. Megaman 2 isnt too bad either. Even on Hard, because of Metal Blade.
Try saving twice, once after 4 stages and again after you're done with the robot masters or after the Yellow Devil if you have no problem with him
You can buy but do it on later stages because you will have more bolts
You did get them ALL, right user?
Agreed. It is an abomination to reploidkind. Manploid shall not connect dongles with manploid.
The hardest for me was Megaman 1. That motherfucker yellow bastard. 6 is also kind of hard but not as much as people say.
Ye
Metal Blade is so good it:
>Has tons of bar, so you can just use it as a straight up mega buster replacement in most circumstances
>Instantly kills Metal Man later
>Makes short work of Flashman, Bubbleman and Woodman
>Can be fired in 8 different directions allowing you to cheese some enemies by taking them out outside of their usual range
Its kind of broken actually with how good it is.
I beat MegaMan 3 for GB, X, X2, X3, X4, Xtreme 1 &2 and the Zero series and most of them weren't that hard when I played them but I've tried to play a few of them again and they seemed harder
It took a while but yes, Mr Perfect in 11 could've been fun though
I wish, getting all trophies is just beyond my ability. I could barely beat the game on normal, and stopped trying after three stages on hard.
But you can just buy items and load yourself up. 9 fucking e-tanks can't get you through a stage?
2 (mostly due to nostalgia) > 9 > 3 > 4 > 11 > 10 > 5 > 8 > 7 > 1 > 6
>5 above anything
>6 that low
>3 that high
>2 that high
this is the only good list.
>7 that low
You kids today, saying "Megaman is hard." Megaman games are some of the most fair NES titles out there. You have no idea what bullshit difficulty is.
You should be thankful he didn't put 4 at the very bottom where it belongs you obvious NPC
>See this thread
>Due Vendetta comes up on shuffle
Can you please fuck off to your disgusting general?
That's not really his characterization. That's more like D.va
What other comparable hardcore-ass famicom games are there, zoomer?
Kek, this gif
Not the same dude but Ninja Gaiden
What the fuck are you asking me? Do you want comparable games or hard NES games? Make up your mind. "Zoomer?" Nigger I played these when they were new.
Battletoads, unironically.
Little Samson
Bucky O'Hare
Kid Icarus (until maybe the second half)
Wizards and Warriors
Ghosts and Goblins
Gremlins 2
Bubble Bobble (good luck with that true ending)
Honestly, 75% of NES games are bullshit because they didn't know how to balance difficulty back then. It wasn't really a mastered science yet. Megaman was one of the early ones that started to understand what was acceptable and what wasn't.
it's still a game clearly that tries to design for both characters with different abilities, making the game horribly unbalanced for both.
Stages are a chore to traverse as megaman because they are designed for Bass double jump and omnidirectional firing. (plus he has a power up that just lets him fucking FLY to avoid shit like disappearing blocks)
On the other hand, bosses are awful as bass because your buster does about as much damage as Megaman's lemons, while his charged shots are devastating to them
11 is the easiest mega man to date.
>11
>not 5 or 6
nigga just unplug one cable
well unfair games shouldnt count
MM isn't that hard. Ive played modern games that kicked my ass harder than MM ever did. And even back then, games like Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden are much harder than MM. Contra too but I just had shit reflexes for that game.
Well, they do. And they can be mastered. Because when your parents bought you one of these at 50 bucks a pop once or twice a year, you either got good or got a new hobby.
Contra is impossible if you don't know how to react to bullet showers. MM doesn't have that, you just need to have a decent memory to beat it.
