Why did B*thesda think it was a good idea to give the player character an already established backstory in a ROLEPLAYING GAME? Fallout 3 suffered badly from this too, but 4 gave you even less room to breathe.

of all the things wrong with Fallout 4, the established backstory bothered me the least
Because Bethesda doesn't make roleplaying games anymore.
because bethesda is making games for the lowest common denominator.
Protip: allocating stats and equipping different armor doesn't make your game a roleplaying game.
Because I'm gay
I didn't say anything about roleplaying
fpbp
It was fucking dumb you were forced to look for your kid, but the backstory by itself was not harmful. Bethesda could have written the survivor to be the most blankest slate imaginable but the game would still have nonexistent roleplaying, because that's how shit Bethesda is.
What bothered you the most about Fallout 4?
Name literally 1 fallout game where your character doesn't have an established backstory.
>character had a wife and kid and was in the army
>implying that is a backstory
So because you were a courier in NV you had no option but to be a delivery boy?
Because Bethesda isn't interested in making roleplaying games anymore. They want to make action adventure trash for casuals because money. Expect TES VI to be casual trash as well. Even more so than Skyrim.
Fallout New Vegas. You're a courier, that's all your given. Where your character came from, how old they are, if they have any family, their morality, all left up to you.
>Even more so than Skyrim.
Is that even possible? What's left to streamline?
Whether or not your character has a wife and child is kind of a big fucking deal, especially since finding your son is the whole point of the story initially? What if I wanted to roleplay as a character who didn't have a wife and son? I could in New Vegas, not in 4.
>wife gets shot and son gets kidnapped
how? you now have a revenge motivation like the NV character and a mission like all the other protags in Fallout.
If you think that is constraining you may be retarded.
Fallout 2 you are a tribal by default.
probably the shallow/limited dialog options, followed closely by legendary weapon modifiers
also the unified skill/perk system
>like the NV character
In NV YOU are shot. In 4, your wife/husband is shot and your character is very obviously emotionally affected by that and the kidnapping of your son, despite you (the player) not knowing either of those characters for more than 20 minutes beforehand. Do you really not see the problem here?
you are retarded and not reading peoples posts. Stop making threads low iq faggot.
The lack of interesting quests killed it for me.
Why don't you just ignore it? It's all made up anyways.
op is mentally handicapped and has no reading comprehension. So he probably can't.
I kill all non whites and the railroad on sight in every play through.
Why don't you just turn off your PC and imagine you're playing a better game.
Voiced protagonist killed it for me. In 1-2 and New Vegas I read all of my characters lines out loud in a convincing tone to better roleplay.
excellent. When Father told me to wipe out the railroad I went there asap with a rocket launcher and cleared that place out.
That is actually an argument it is kinda roleplay breaking. I honestly prefer mute protags in these kinda games.
>ignore it
It's brought up all the time with pretty much every major NPC you talk to. Most of the main quest is just muh son just like how in 3 most of the main quest is muh dad. Bethesda has no idea what Fallout is they just bought the franchise to have a sci-fi counterpart to Elder Scrolls. So they shoehorn in generic plots about family.
youtube.com
Look at this shit, it's like a hollywood cashgrab version of Fallout. It doesn't even need to be Fallout at all, it could just be another generic post-apocalypse setting instead.
>"war, war never changs" 3 fucking times
how the fuck is it brought up all the time? did you even play the game?
Most people in the world don't know who you are besides a vault dweller same as every other game.
You are playing the role of the character dipshit
Does that mean every game is a roleplaying game?
why are you so stupid op?
Incels can't self insert anymore. Good.
Also roleplaying and self inserting are two different things.
In Call of Duty Black Ops' campaign you are roleplaying as Alex Mason.
Do you see how fucking stupid you sound?
Fallout 4 has the most room for roleplaying if anything because you have the least commitments in the game tied with NV.
Your entire vault is dead so you have no community. You have one lead which is your son and as soon as you find him you are about as free as the courier after killed Benny to roleplay whoever you want. I ended up becoming a raider warlord.
So yeah op is stupid.
What has this got to do with Fallout4?
because the devs dont actually play RPGs and The Witcher 3 got a shitload of praise while having a pre-made character + bioware games, what other obvious shit do you want me to spell out for you? who do you think makes the decisions in AAA game dev companies? I assure you it's not middle-management PR cucks like Todd Howard, it's the Board of Directors (60yo guys who never played a vidya in their lifes and use statistics to push forth major design points)
That’s like saying you’re role playing Mario in smb, I swear RPers are fucked in the head
if you ignore the Minutemans completely, find and kill your son ASAP the Fallout 4 actually becomes a somewhat decent game
but lets not pretend this was planned on purpose by designers
