I'm going to blindly pose a guess: females have shown psychology that is generally predisposed to "emotional intelligence" which is likely a neurological feature of female development. The compartmentalized brain in a female doesn't work as well separately as a mans, conversely the compartments in a male brain are used more independently. When a woman thinks her whole brain lights, when a man does only a handful of specialized parts do. There was a hypothesis proposed by a woman at some point, she coined the term "tend and befriend" as opposed to the "fight or flight" mechanics of the male.


From an overarching perspective the studies I've read on this are somewhat removed from the nurture side of things, they were examining adult females, so it's difficult to discern how much of that is due to cultured adaptation and how much is a product of male vs. female developmental tendencies. There is an increasingly large body of work in neurology (and medicine in general) towards specialized medicine for women. For a long time most studies have been performed on males exclusively for a number of reasons. Things such as permanently compromising fertility or incidence of deformities, ethical conundrums, and perhaps a misunderstanding of the difference of biology.

Autism is also a fairly complicated affliction. There are indicators that the spectrum actually has a wide range of causes. Recently a paper was published indicating evidence that fecal transplants can alter the behavior of autists. Certain regions of the brain can be damaged in utero or, presumably later in life that cause autism like features. Finally there are genetic factors involved, perhaps it's a predisposition towards cultivating poorer intestinal microfauna or something more dire like a misfolded protein we've yet to uncover.

I went to graphic design school and my class had like 3 boys and 18 girls, out of those 18 girls, I can safely say that at least 10 of them had some form of autism, some more than others, the biggest cases were these 2 chicks, one of them was playing pokemon on her 3DS constantly and wore "cutesy" clothes, had speech impediment and was very hyper in her social exchanges, other one was incredibly anti-social, barely ever talked to anybody, any interaction with her made her go beet red and she usually skipped lunch to eat ramen noodles
