Almost useless for today's gameplay. What a shame
>That time when Raigeki got unbanned and the prices skyrocketed to fuck
Immediately made me regret not buying boxes and boxes of Dark Beginning 1 when it first came out.
>Tfw you dig up your old deck and decide to try to play a game online but Yugioh doesn't even slightly resemble what it used to be anymore
Absolute chad deck
I know that feel
Just specify "Goat format" when hosting.
Where is monster reborn pleb?
Change of heart?
>too stupid to play anything else but normal monster unga bunga
so this is the average intelligence of an off-topic Yea Forums poster
Pretty sure those cards were banned even back then user.
Monster Reborn was recently unbanned but limited to 1
Its not that I was too stupid to play anything else, its that my deck was very very consistent and quick, and I would often win before the other weenie could get off his retarded gimmick.
Straight forward beatdown where it doesn't even matter if your opponent destroys one of your monsters because you have plenty more was very effective, those stupid gimmick decks took time to set up, I would have a Summoned Skull with one or two Axe of Despairs by turn 2.
>implying anything in yugioh takes intelligence to play
So this is the delusion of a meta-deck user
Sure, but back then most people didn't follow the Status list outside of Tournaments either.
CoH didn't get banned til like 2004-5ish. Cant remember exactly when.
Mon Reborn was also legal for a very long time and has gone on and off forbidden a few times
i said nothing about ygo taking intelligence. unga bunga inarguably just takes less though since all you're doing is using equip spells and ramming monsters into each other
while we're at it
>le meta strawman
very cool
stay retarded i guess
this card looks like garbage desu
I actually ran that deck in tournaments.
Did pretty well considering it was of my own design and I was so young, but I ended up losing in the provincial finals to a toothless college kid running a Yata Garasu deck.
I was pretty upset about losing to that because it seemed so unfair, but some grognards saw how sad I was and invited me to sit with them. They were playing MtG and I forgot how sad I was once they started showing me some of their cool cards, I had never seen MtG cards before so the art was almost hypnotizing. It was so much cooler than Yu Gi Oh cards. They taught me how to play and even made me a little green Wurm deck because I thought they were the coolest, they let me keep that little Wurm deck they made and I still have it tucked away somewhere.
It's actually stupid good with decks that don't need the Extra Deck. The 'can't draw cards' restriction doesn't matter since you're still free to search.
>not seeing its use in things that don't need extra
its actually great
i was just thinking in comparison to the original but i guess its cool if you can stack them
I think it's more cool that you can actually use Extravagance since Greed is never coming off the banlist.
Yugioh takes a lot to play correctly depending on the format. Especially in Chaos Format, Goat Format, Edison Format, DD Turbo, DADReturn, Six Sam/Fishborg/Monarch, Dino Rabbit, HAT, EDrags, and even up through Qliphort and Nekroz Mirrors. The game takes a lot of knowledge to consistently top events. There is always so much you need to account for.
>dood meme edition
> For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot draw any cards by card effects
so this is the power of not reading and only caring about the old days
I haven't played since the OG cards/rules.
How could the game possibly have changed so much that deleting all of your opponent's monsters in a monster battle game be almost useless?
battle phase barely matters when it's all about setting up the field
FTKs are a lot more common.
Because half their monsters can negate destruction effects and the other half special summon a different monster when they die. That's assuming that they didn't just kill you before you even got the chance to play Raigeki in the first place
Most top decks can mindlessly spam out monsters so killing them all isn't as big of a deal. Not only that but graveyard has been a second hand for a while now so sending to the grave can sometimes help the opponent. And on top of that, a lot monsters have built in protection effects nowadays. It is to the point where people run a monster that lets you tribute enemy monsters for its summon just because it cant really be negated in most scenarios
How do these games play out with the modern rules IRL?
I last played when most cards did not have paragraph effect explanations, and the few that did were pretty straightforward. So many cards nowadays have paragraph long bullshit that like "do this only when this condition is met and is also dependent on X Y and Z." Do people have to explain this out loud to their IRL opponents, or do regular plays just have all this shit memorized?
I want to be nuzzled malevolently.
>I last played when most cards did not have paragraph effect explanations, and the few that did were pretty straightforward.
Its fucking mindblowing that Yugioh STILL hasn't just lifted the keyword system from MtG
There is no fucking reason for cards that have the exact same effect as thousands of other cards to have a literal essay explaining what they do every time.
Depends on where you go. Autists and neckbeards will always have it memorized. From experience, local card shop tournaments seem to only have a small handful of people who actually memorize rulings. The most fun you'll have is playing casually at these events.
>There is no fucking reason
Fuck you
learn what they do right there, no 2nd hand book
if you're genuinely unable to understand card timings then you might actually have a learning disability
People remember because after a while you can understand most effects after a quick glance
Also when did you play? Shit like pic related and Toons have essays for effects and they are from the first anime arc
why did they make the rules and game more convoluted and complicated
>if you're genuinely unable to understand card timings
There is nothing in my post that says or suggests that. You are hallucinating, user.
>what is power creep
>why can't everything stay boring and easy
It is not that hard.
Even pendulums are easy
Not the other user but how the fuck do they keep track of all the value changes and effects during live card events in nu-yugioh?
What happens if a few turns go by before someone realizes something fucked up somewhere?
>(people) thought pends would be broken due to "wow summon a bunch at once"
>mechanic didn't really get spread around like that and only had a few decks
>next they claim links were to slow down extra
can't wait for w/e lie comes up for next mechanic
BOOMER HERE. What's the most recent YuGiOh game I can play that will let me relive the good old boring rules. Eternal Duelist Soul was one of my most played games back in the day.
GET
FUCKED
>values mattering outside of things like o/ftks
since your post is kind of conflicting I'm still gonna promo link evolution
The game has always been kind of convoluted. Part of this was just bad card design or overly convoluted mechanics and how they interact with each other leading to a stupid amount of rulings for specific scenarios. Also they never bothered really attempting to fix their game till problem solving card text. They just add more stuff instead of fixing what is already there.
>for a game to be difficult it has to have a stupid amount of specific rulings for specific interactions of cards.
It hurts bros....
Let me put it this way: what's the most recent YuGiOh I can play where Raigeki still matters.
>what is goats
Yata-lock playground
>acknowledges PSCT
so what you crying about, missing the timing?
OCG release rulings before every product
>A few turns go by
Usually, they don't.
Anyway, a lot of value changes are temporary and end at the end of the turn (or your opponent's next turn). For those that aren't they have stuff like "gains attack based on number of counters", "xyz material", shit like that.
The Tag Force games. Yes, even 4, 5, and Special.
I once got a holographic Barrel Dragon when I was a kid. I was pretty excited.
The graveyard is basically a second-hand deck for most decks, so you're often doing your opponent a favor. That being said, Raigeki isn't useless, it's just not as powerful as it used to be, which is why it's no longer banned and is limited to one. I like to run Volcanics because they essentially have a Raigeki you can easily recycle, can have set up at almost any time, and it even does decent burn damage each time at 1500.
I run Volcanics, and if you happen to have Doomfire out and proc his ability, he can nuke floaters with it, which is pretty helpful.
Tributing is without a doubt the best removal for problem monsters, yeah. I run 2 Volcanic Queens in my deck specifically because of that. The plus side is that if I don't need them, I can always just trash them with Blaze Accelator Reload to draw a card.
still the same since they have it in eras
>f/l is kinda messed up worlds despite ocg freeing
well original legacy of the duelist works too
I do believe a lot of practice + autism makes almost anything possible, also atk\def changing effs aren't really used anymore
I am wondering how people will be able to play with endy though, I love spell counters but I will never be able to play outside of YGO-Pro
Endy players always carry shitloads of dice with them and/or are members of MENSA
There are a handful of keywords now for the easier to explain effects. You have banish instead of "removing from play", piercing instead of "inflict damage equal to the difference of this monsters attack and the opponent's monsters defense", for example. There's a lot of effects that are very specific though, which is why Yugioh reads like legal text. That being said, There are definitely more spots to use keywords in that just haven't done it yet. For example, I would personally write a floating effect as something like float; [specific monster], or something like that, instead of explaining that you can special summon X monster from the deck.
>shitloads
>when there are d20s
or are you the guy who doesn't believe in those
d20s aren't enough for this : youtu.be
Endymion boards tend to have at least 4 cards packed with spell counters at a given time, so you do need multiples.
How about you google it yourself, gramps.
>cherrypicked
>imaginary
could you quit spam-ading this guy already
How about you gargle my saggy ballsack
Yugioh players would kill their mothers to draw two cards
>write a floating effect as something like float; [specific monster], or something like that, instead of explaining that you can special summon X monster from the deck
You'd still have to specify the type of floating, destruction by card effect, battle, both, being used as material, or simply leaving the field, and if it can miss timing as well as any restrictions
????
I hadn't considered that, damn. What other things could have keyword text? I'm at a loss about that.
Stairway to destined duel follows battle city arc
5Ds 3/2010 banlist was the most kino time to play this game. So many viable archetypes that were all fun to play. Prove me wrong.
What the hell do you mean by spam-ading?
Dueakroz
not much but you can probably do
>untargetable/indestructible by [x]
instead of "cannot be targeted or destroyed by [x]"
don't act like anytime a video of his comes you don't go hurdur "X is T0!1!"
Is VRAINS any good? I'm not sure if I should watch it.
I just clicked the first replay compilation I saw to use as an example
not really no, new season started so hopefully something can happen
the Duel Links phone game
>tfw only person who loves this card
I want to make a full Pharaonic Guardian deck one day
Post the card you hate the most. I HATE this thing. Fuck Raid faggots
Forever my favorite archetype
>FTK's are a lot more common
How is this even still a card game.
It okay. First season start out slow, but it picks up pretty fast. Second season has some great characters, monster designs, and moment, but suffer from dragging out too long for its own good. I would give it a watch if you have the time. Right now, season 3 is starting and its getting hype as hell.
Oh and FREE HER
First time I opened a PG pack I pulled Helpoemer. Lost it at some point, sad to say I have no idea what happened to it
>tfw all I got was Byser Shock
>Firewall Dragon is not a problem card
>enabler from Extra Link to various FTK
Is there anyway to slow down the current game without banning like 25% of the cards
Just introduce more 'I hate fun' floodgates.

This pasta has always been shit.
It's time
Imagine playing a card game where you can't play past turn 3
I wish Artifact got updated
It's the first time in a while where someone can't just mindlessly play rush abilities to get a win in 3 turns or less
What happened to card games where they stopped being about strategy and become about how fast you can shit out cards?
DARO
Did he fuck Alexis?
Unironically what is the appeal of modern yugioh?
introduce levels for spells and traps, so they (the strongest ones) need tributes to be played
you could even unban Pot of Greed thanks to this
I hope SOMEONE did. She deserves a good dicking.
this has got to be one of the most stupid ideas I have ever seen
Same appeal of old yugioh. Anime card games
>"im not here to have fun, but to win" deck
MONSTA
FTKs fear the five-head
why?
you do realize I'm saying tribute like with like, right?
if I need to spell it out, something like "sacrifice" two or three spell cards to play Pot of Greed
>the game I left 15 years ago hasn't stayed the same :^(
What the fuck do you people expect? Why are there so many posts like this?
But the anime hasn't been good since Zexal
>implying this is a worse idea than pends or links
You are the niggest of nigs
powertripping
the most busted decks are usually straightforward and so powerful they don't even let your opponent play
it gives a false sense of superiority, much like any pay2win
Sorry, forgot pic
t. didn't even play with the rules back then
>What the fuck do you people expect? Why are there so many posts like this?
MtG is still fine after all these years, Yugioh is just the worst example unregulated power creep that I've ever seen
>buy Magic cards in the 80s
>still completely viable and in many cases really fucking strong today
>buy yugioh cards back in the 90s
>99% of the cards are now completely worthless
You're comparing a game that cuts off cards after a certain amount of time to one that is constantly growing. Go to speed format if you want less
Well yeah, they had no idea what they were doing when making the jump to a "serious" card game franchise. That's why so many of the initial cards they made were not made with the future of the game in mind.
>Did I mention I run Volcanics?
Actually the game had stayed the same up until around the early xyz era
Beatdown's were still common, there weren't a lot of card with busted effects, Some of the strongest monsters required a lot of set-up which would last the whole game, Spells and Traps still had unique effects and weren't all about floating effects.
Utopia was a staple in a lot of decks and the most busted shit was Wind-ups. Six Sams, Inzektors, and fucking Dino Rabbits which was a straight up unga bunga
But the game has changed very drastically since 2012 when utopia reigned supreme
It was only in about 2014 where we entered Nu-Yugioh phase
With the release of Starter Deck 2014 and the introduction of Pendulum's the game shifted formats to
>Everything is Board set-up
>Take 20 minutes turns
>Draw out your entire deck
>Archtypes and 5 - 6 decks reign supreme
So Zombie Yugioh has been around only for 5 years
Ironically, user's deck would have worked fine in a regional even at 2012
Penguin solider could devistate
Axe of despair is very strong as a beat down tool
Breaker was always viable for backrow destruction since there was little ways to get rid of battle traps with the bans of heavy storm and the limits on MST
one of the worldwide editions on the ds
>blames pends directly
>not DUEA
man shut the fuck up
>still completely viable and in many cases really fucking strong today
These are the extreme minority, don't even try to pretend otherwise. In fact, magic and yugioh are both similar in that there were a handful of beyond broken cards in their inception that are broken today, like PoG and Ancestral Recall. As well as having absolute shitters which would better serve as kindling like this piece of junk.
