Raytracing

>Raytracing

Meanwhile in 2004 at 60FPS

Uh.... raytracing doesn't mean literal "light rays"...

Raytracing is still just a meme, an expensive meme, only chumps would buy into it in it's current form.

I don't get why we can't just have this and have studios focus on gameplay. Certain styles maintain soul and look good enough that I couldn't care less, you should just focus on a good game at that point.

do you know what ray tracing is retard? also ngb didn't run at 1080 in 2004

>they don't see the reflections that raytracing does but at a much higher cost

Ninja Gaiden really did look amazing at the time. I don't understand why there isn't a pc port of NG1/2. Even a low effort one that required a controller and only supported 16:9 resolution would be better than nothing.

baked

WHAT THE FUCK IS STOPPING TECMO FROM PORTING NG: BLACK TO FUCKING PC

Just get an xbone already. It's fucking cheap used

They just finished releasing a port. They already have projects on hand.

Jap devs trashed their source code back at 6th gen,so, it might be that. Obviously just speculation.

I'd take a port of Sigma. They gotta have the source code because they did a fairly recent Vita port.

path tracing > cone tracing >>>>>>>>>>>> ray tracing

>this thread again

This is almost certainly a cube map

>devs today are too retarded to make good cube maps and small details anymore
fuck these auto generation programs that make bloat like nu doom

Are you the same idiot who thought this was ray traced a few days ago?

it's the same bogus market tactic they did like when physx came out- gullible people bought into the idea of it being the future and went and got two videocards to play the same shit games but now with materials that crack or fabrics that wiggled all over

not him but most unreal devs (I work with it) bake their lightmaps today, it's just a pain in the ass

mirror's edge is the first baked lightmap game iirc, today it's basically standard even among indie dev
pure dynamic light is rare

>Real time reflections only made possible through ray tracing!

RTX ON

Sigma runs fine on RPCS3

>character has no reflection on the floor
>everything else in the room is reflected
Even shitty games like True Crime NYC managed to pull it off on the PS2 of all things. There's no excuse that kind of shit.

It doesn't look like 1080p, more like 480p upscaled to 1080p, check the jaggies.

This is at least the second time they've made this thread. OP, if you are reading this, having nice looking graphics and predefined sun rays is NOT GODDAMN RAY TRACING.
Except physx actually was the future. You know what engine uses physx? Fucking Unreal 4. Every game that runs on Unreal 4 uses it and many Unity games do as well. Nvidia recently open sourced the code, and it's pretty much become an industry standard.

>itt brainlets discuss how they think graphics tech works

It looks like 720 - 900p, though Ninja Gaiden Sigma was advertised as 1080p/60 on PS3.

botw has decent cube maps when needed

The same people designing the gameplay are not the same people making assets and doing graphics programming. How do you not understand this?

You ever heard of something called a director?

>the director does everything all by himself

Art directors and technical directors exist for a reason.

I hate tech comparison videos
>Ray tracing off: Zero reflections at all despite them existing for decades in games without ray tracing
>Ray tracing on: LOOK AT ALL THE FUCKING REFLECTIONS HOLY SHIT BUY OUR $1200 GPU NOW

>PhysX off: Worst hand-made animation of a flag blowing in the wind ever made
>PhysX on: LOOK AT THAT FUCKING FLAG HOW REALISTIC IT IS BLOWING IN THE WIND

>advertisers use extreme comparisons to make their product look better
Almost like that mcdonalds burger doesnt actually like like the ad

Retard. That's a cube map. Notice how the character isn't reflected. You have to bake a shit load of textures and even then it ONLY works indoor rooms and even then it still cannot reflect anything but the walls themselves correctly. You can't bake reflections for a chair in a room, for example. RTX dosnt need to bake, it just works

that's SSR retard

>trashed their source code
god the japs are so bad at maintaining a codebase

just fucking archive it for fuck's sake how does this shit get deleted

Considering how Tecmo literally died and so did Koei to the point they had to make an entirely new company. Pretty difficult.

based retard telling it like he sees it

It's back compat retard. Anything other than res is the same as OG

Ray traced reflections are a meme from what I've seen. Metro's global illumination looks phenomenal however and runs better than other RTX effects.

I'm just waiting for atomic heart before i decide

slapping it on without proper use will always be a waste no matter what effect it is
