I'm probably going to buy it if not then it's FFX-X2 HD

The main complaint I see is about the combat system but the story seems good

do you know what are you getting into? The combat is the most unique thing in the series and is completely ignored in the reviews, it's not hard but you need to "understand" it
The story is meh, does the work but not the best in the series, the world exploration is great

I've never played any in the series so idk how the combat works. The world does looks great

It lacks a good amount of QoL features, has a steep learning curve, requires a decent amount of time before you feel like you're really getting the hang of it, has "anime" moments every now and then that may make you cringe, and the dub is a very acquired taste. However, it's the game that keeps on giving and compels you to put in hundreds of hours and waste your life away on trivial things. Buy the expansion pass as well.

Prepare for great music, great world design, unique gameplay, and a somewhat slow start. It is a bit rough around the edges though.

I hope you like gacha in your single player rpg, friend.

The combat is simple: all your characters attack on their own, like in a real-time strategy video game. While you can move your character around the enemies to avoid damage/inflict moe damge/run/foccus on another enemy and etc.

Everytime they attack they fill a gauge of specials (arts), you need to decide when to fill the gauges and when to do the arts. Arts are special moves that have their own special effects that you need for special advantages. Even a low level enemy can kick your ass if you don't have a strategy

When you do arts, they fill the gauge of combos, special devasting moves. The thing you need to gave in mind is that arts and combos have types that complement each other making even bigger and more specifc affective moves. Ex: You do a earth combo, and then other fighter in your team do a fire combo, they mix into a volcano move

what and said. The gacha system (which is free, i might add) is actually part of the difficulty, to do specific type moves you need specific type "blades", like pokemon or Shin Megami Tensei.
The way you do this is by bonding crystals, they aways give you a blade, rare blades are stronger, but you can do whitout then. You can't decide the type you get, so the fun of game is rethinking your strategies to work with what the game gives you (don't be afraid, there's AWAYS a way to win if you are smart enough) or you can explore the world to grind for better blades

Shitty game. Would not recommend

Why is it shitty

what the fuck...

For like 20 bucks. Full price, absolutely not.

It will never be 20 unfortunately. Right now it's on sale for 50

Still worth it with the amount of content it comes with

True. I'm probably going to buy it

if you dig it The Torna DLC bretty good too

also replying to my post

this is gonna be the greatest game ver when you can emulated it 4K60fps

10k 250fps VR

Absolutely. It's easily the best JRPG of the last decade+.

There's a few janky or wonky things about it, but and the story is styled like a shounen, at least for the first half. But if you can handle all that, then it's an incredible game, with amazing visuals, fantastic combat, and one of the best casts of any JRPG I've ever played- no dud characters, or annoying mascots that just sit on the bench.

Play with Jap voices though

Attached: 1535352156146.jpg (785x563, 65K)

I'm sold friendo

Maybe. It's a game that really requires that you have enough patience to put up with its bullshit.
The early parts can be really, really rough, and honestly I wasn't really sure how I felt about the game until the last few chapters.

Just for the love of god look up a video tutorial on how the combat system actually works. The game does a piss poor job of explaining it and learning how combos work properly changes the combat from a boring auto-attack slog where you watch the characters chip away at HP to an enjoyable lightshow where superbosses melt half their HP bars in a single combo.

Also pray you get these two cuties early on.

>no dud characters, or annoying mascots that just sit on the bench.
This is a fucking lie.

So how did you feel after the last few chapters?

>no dud characters, or annoying mascots that just sit on the bench.
Liar. There is an entire race of dud characters that are also mascots who just sit on the bench.

I liked it a lot, despite the problems. And playing NG+ made me love it even more.

>Also pray you get these two cuties early on.
>one is literally only rollable after you beat the game, the other has the lowest roll rate in the game
why would you even post this

Love the characters. Nia, Tora and Zeke are legitimately some of my favorite JRPG party members of all time.

Attached: 1517946519659.png (1718x1214, 2.29M)

If you like JRPGs, I guess it's worth a try. I had alot of gripes with it personally.

>way too much story. No game in existence should have over an hour of cutscenes or dialogue boxes or any of that trash. If you try and cite "muh 100 hours of gameplay" then use that to tell the story, don't take me out of it to give me a retarded cutscene. What kind of gameplay are you peddling that can't even tell a basic story on its own?
>DLC is too pricey, and it's kind of trash. Basically filler with stupid waifus.
>speaking of waifus, the entire cast is useless waifus who you'll be dragging around for no particular reason other than flimsy plot contrivances
>gacha literally built into the game because RNG just wasn't obnoxious enough
>gameplay is too simplistic, and the UI during battle is extremely cluttered. Half the screen is words and ugly shapes, and the rest is flashy style-over-substance anime fighting. At this point I would prefer a traditional turn based RPG
>performance wise, it runs terrible. 30 FPS is already sickening, but it can't even maintain that.
>way too much filler. Every other sidequest is basically the equivalent of a dick measuring contest between characters, or unfunny humor, or pointless drama/character development, as if that will redeem the 1 dimensional personalities.

To say this was a 1/10 game in my book would be an understatement. I mean, I can tolerate a bad game. I played the Trails series. But this went beyond my tolerance levels.

Attached: Untitled.png (872x572, 455K)

Sorry you feel that way, shame really.

Yes? The game doesn't actually start until superbosses and NG+. And roll rate doesn't mattedr much when you just farm the big cow.

There's not too much story at all
The DLC is great, it adds a full 30 hours prequel and let you explore young Gormott and Torna
I don't understand wtf your're talking about dragging waifu around? They're basically blades, they're always with you anyway
There's almost no RNG other than gacha in this game
Gameplay is anything but simplistic, some players weren't able to understand it after about 80 hours of gameplay and in fact, it's one of the strong point of the game
The game indeed runs bad, but it depends about where you are in the game, it runs fine when you're not in a big city with a lot of stuff going on
The sidequests are fine and are basically what you find in any JRPG

You honestly didn't play this game and I don't know why I'm answering

>If you try and cite "muh 100 hours of gameplay" then use that to tell the story, don't take me out of it to give me a retarded cutscene.
How exactly do you suggest they have handled the story then? The cutscenes used a lot of dynamic camera angles and shots to keep the large amount of character dialogue interesting. Would you have prefered a VN styled text box? Or would you prefer characters just talk in the over world but you maintain control of your character being stuck with the same behind the character camera angle? Seriously, of all the things to complain about it's the cutscenes in a JRPG?

Attached: hikari's legs.jpg (548x919, 42K)

if you aren't super excited for it, I wouldn't recommend getting it.

Don't let the fags make you think it's perfect it's got a few problems. Awkward "anime" moments and some bad writing. But has nice design and overall presentation. Also battling is just a rhythm mini game.

You call this "not alot"? I can't barely tolerate a game with an hour of cutscenes, this is just going too far.

>How exactly do you suggest they have handled the story then?
I propose a simple system: don't have a story. Essentialy, you start the game and then you just play it until completion. Maybe a dialogue box every 30 hours to remind you what you're supposed to do, but that's it. I don't need a cutscene of waifu blades dancing, or Nia talking about one eyed monsters, or overtly long elaborate anime fight scenes that I get no part in and am just a passive observer.

Attached: Untitled.png (1144x196, 167K)

>I propose a simple system: don't have a story.

Attached: fishing pole.png (500x501, 90K)

Yeah I wonder why he considers it the best when it's been BTFO by other JRPGs . It's got great porn though.

Attached: 1558352203852m.jpg (1024x575, 71K)

Seriously, I ask you: why should I want a story, let alone 13 hours of it? If the gameplay is fun, I don't need character development or context or any trash like that. I'm not playing a cinematic experience made by hipsters, I'm playing a VIDEO GAME.

>BTFO by other JRPGs
Like what? FFXIV?

Attached: laughing whore.jpg (800x600, 246K)

>can only mention the "infamous" cutscenes that shitposters bitch about

Hmm... I get the feeling you never actually played this game user.

Attached: fag.jpg (310x310, 28K)

I agree with this guy. Sums it up for me as well. Too bad the Switch doesn't have many other JRPGs beside Octopath or Labyrnth of refrain. And maybe P5.

Because when I've got a 150+hr save file that 13hr of story seriously doesn't take away from it in the slightest. If you just pump and dump your games then this game is not for you in the first place.

I think we all know but I ain't gonna mention it cuz it'd spawn an all put war over it. I've seen too much autism but it's fact that this isn't the best JRPG of the past decade.

>Can only tolerate one hour of cutscene
So you can't even watch a fucking movie
>I propose a simple system: don't have a story
Nevermind, you're that crazy guy from that one Xenoblade thread where you were going about games not needing sounds or visuals

>taking Yea Forumseddits opinion seriously
yeah, don't do this

Attached: yikes.jpg (255x300, 13K)

No seriously I'm asking because if there's a JRPG better than this out there that I've missed I wanna play it. FFXIV was such a fucking dumpster fire that if XB2 hadn't come out I'd have lost faith in Japan after already losing total faith in the west.

I'm going to say the M word

Attached: e0ee75ae3c5682c94488069bb4f7a430.jpg (1200x1476, 167K)

Are we speaking specifically in Switch or other systems like Steam or Playstation?

The closest is DQXI, but XC2 is still better

Attached: 1558681760579.jpg (1280x720, 148K)

Name me even one cutscene that isn't a waste of time that would be better off not existing. The infamous ones are definitely up there, but you're implying that the story somehow stops being cringeworthy.

It ruins the entire experience for me. You have 150 hours of gameplay, and you can't tell a story over that time period? You needed an additional amount of cutscenes shoved in my face? That speaks poorly of the gameplay, as it shows a complete lack of understanding when it comes to environmental and natural narrative storytelling. In other words, it breaks the golden rule of "show don't tell" or in the case of a video game "play, don't watch".

>So you can't even watch a fucking movie
As if (((Hollywood))) even had good movies anymore.

>Nevermind, you're that crazy guy from that one Xenoblade thread where you were going about games not needing sounds or visuals
s'truth, innit?

Preferably switch or steam. I don't have a PS4 or Xbone because there was literally only 1 game on them worth playing this generation and I borrowed my brothers PS4 for a month to get through it. And on that thought now I'm thinking you probably mean P5 in which case I have played it.

>You have 150 hours of gameplay, and you can't tell a story over that time period?
YOU THINK THE GAME FRONTLOADED 13HRS OF CUTSCENE BEFORE IT LET YOU PLAY?

YOU FUCKING IMBECILE. YES I MAD. MAD AT YOUR SHEER LEVEL OF STUPIDITY.

Attached: CbfkFlYUkAAx9PN.jpg (600x421, 50K)

You can watch movies not from Hollywood you know
Italian, French, Jap all made great movies, even if they're pretty old now

If that's the case here's my list:

Lisa the painful
Labyrnth of refrain
Octopath Traveler
Persona 5
Dragon Quest
Ni no kuni
Final Fantasy 15 (hit or miss)
Fire emblem echoes

I've never played X before. Can somebody explain how Elma can make clones of herself with Ghost Factory? Elma Redux is silly.

Attached: 1535529659889.jpg (717x1012, 82K)

>>>in

There's also something else but we aren't gonna mention it. Seriously it's the N word to these fags.

>only Hollywood makes movies
Can you make a trip so I can filter your idiocy?

You should be ashamed of this list kek
There are barely 2 good games on this list

No I think you're mad cause they have a point. You just don't want to admit but you do you I guess.

>have 150 hours of gameplay
>can't tell a story without additional cutscenes

That is the height of incompetence. What are you doing all game? Just walking through empty fields and grinding against generic mobs? You can't take even a moment to exercise some better storytelling alternatives? Even overrated games like Kingdom Hearts manage to demonstrate this in a better manner. What do I Mean? Well, I'll point you to one simple scene in KH2, and then that same scene in final mix.

youtube.com/watch?v=oFFLfnt6fcY

A cutscene.

youtube.com/watch?v=y4yQioUhk9E

The same cutscene, now in gameplay form.

Xenoblade couldn't do this a little?

Only P5, DQ and maybe octopath are worth playing if you can handle the garbage art in the latter.

Not that i mind but they are?

ACfag, you really need to be more subtle. It's painfully obvious whenever you post.

I always though XB2 and KH had something in common. At least KH has appealing CGI cutscenes.

There are different kinds of games. Some games have cutscenes. Should the slice-of-life and gag moments in XB2 all be layered over a boss battle too? You're both desperately laboring under the assumption that cutscenes are inherently bad, which they aren't. The cutscenes in XB2 are just fine. They take up less than 10% of the time of an average playthrough of the game. But you clearly dislike cutscenes, so just don't play this game. It's that fucking simple.

I like to be able to play for a while, then put down the controller for 5mins and watch the characters goof around or do some cool shit without my input from time to time. One thing of note on the KH videos is that the camera is far more dynamic in the cutscene version than the gameplay version. They give off completely different feels from each other.

Who is this?

First 100 hours are cringe and bad. Last 25 hours are good. Torna was all good (forgot how long it took me, maybe 40 hours?).

I never really said I despised cutscene it's just in these ones some scenes are really cringy. I just don't know why you can't admit that. Say if your parents walked in. Do you have the confidence to playthrough the game regardless if someone was there? This is only theoretically. I fucking love cutscene when they are good.

Based. The expansion actually have effort. Wish the entire game was like that.

There's an art in X called Ghostwalker/factory that gives the character the decoy buff (guaranteed evasion from an attack). They changed it in XC2 to be similar to kage bunshin to make it more interesting to allow the decoys/clones to attack.

As for Elma Redux, just give Corvin to Zeke and mash a button. Or end a blade combo with a dark element to seal reinforcements.

>the game gets good 100 hours in i swear
oh my GOD fuck off

user without the cutscenes this game wouldn't have a story. No, I have no confidence I would have stuck around in this game without them because from the very fucking first 2mins of the game it was obvious that it was a character driven story game. If you don't like that, and if you don't like that the character story and dialogue is delivered through cutscenes, then this ain't the game for you.

>Some games have cutscenes.
They shouldn't have cutscenes because they are wasting my time. They waste anyone's time, anyone who actually cares about good gameplay and pacing. I don't need a tough boss battle interrupted by a waifu character slapping me on the head and calling me a baka (which happens at least 5 times, with the same character no less).

>Should the slice-of-life and gag moments in XB2 all be layered over a boss battle too?
Maybe they should be taken out period? If you wanna tell jokes and slice of life crap, go make a cartoon or a movie. Video games exist for interactivity and gameplay. Dedicating entire hours to removing me from the equation is a downright insult.

>You're both desperately laboring under the assumption that cutscenes are inherently bad, which they aren't
Logically, they are objectively bad. A cutscene is basically anti-gameplay. It is actively fighting against the point of the medium.

>they take up less than 10% of the time of an average playthrough of the game.
See, there you go, flaunting the game time again, missing the point entirely. If I actually had fun in that 150 hours, I wouldn't need 13 hours of cutscenes to spoonfeed me the story. I'd naturally learn it through gameplay. You had 150 hours of it to work with, what were the writer doing all that time?

>I like to be able to play for a while, then put down the controller for 5mins
That signals a bad game. Why do you want to put down the controller? Did the game become overtly repetitious? Is it boring you to death? Is it full of grinding and hallways and empty plateaus, to the point where you can't stomach any more? A good game is one where you can start it later in the evening, and then realize that you played a 10 hour marathon. The only time you put down the controller is begrudgingly to handle other life obligations.

This kind of experience separates games and movie games.

for every good point the game has it always shoves more bad decisions in your face

combat is fun but takes too long to build up or get going, random mooks are boring and really only shines during bosses, but at one point you start to realise that you're just doing the same shit over and over again with the combos

menus are a step back from the first game, frustrating even especially the amount of fuck you stupid shit quests and you have to open it every time to register it as finished

half of the main cast lose relevancy but that's standard jrpg fare, story is nothing to write home about until the later chapters

sound design is atrocious

character design ranges from good to dogshit, no thanks to the artstyle differences for unique blades

world looks nice but is disconnected

gacha
>oh it's to encourage varied playthroughs
fuck you blades are just fucking pokémon/smt just let us choose

speaking of blades, the way they let you have an army of them really clashes with the game's theme of having a special connection with your blade, makes them feel expendable

shit's wack but I did have fun playing through it

Attached: 1523109083263.jpg (1280x720, 145K)

Someone post the swimsuit version

Reviews are definitely not mostly good

It least it doesn’t cost anymore real money outside the original purchase

I am wrong. You are right.

You can leave now.

No dude I agree with you on cutscene it's just specifically this game's cutscenes. Cutscene drive a game's story you're right about that.

boards.fireden.net/v/search/image/7eHXNsruDOsMIROi78Pbkg/

Just fucking stop you fucking retard

>every game needs to be dark souls

>Say if your parents walked in. Do you have the confidence to playthrough the game regardless if someone was there?
My parents would hate it if they walked in on me playing fucking FIFA just as much as they would some waifu game. That's the reason I moved out at 16 was to get the fuck away from that kind of judgement asap. I don't need it from you on fucking Yea Forums over a completely benign waifu game.

I absolutely loved it, it's my first time playing one of monolithsofts games.

Sauce?

Are you forgetting countless games prior to Dark Souls, that knew when to have gameplay and when to be extremely conservative with cutscenes? You've got 40+ years of vidya history to work with prior to Dark Souls. Considering that you're all Switch owners, I'm surprised you don't see the merit in games having light story, like Kirby or Yoshi or Mario. And Mario has starred in RPGs before, yet he didn't need a super dark plot that tried tackling a billion subjects. He also didn't need sexy waifus to sell. And yes, I know people want to fuck Peach and Goombella and Bowsette and etc, but you know what I mean.

>comparing a sports game to a week game.

You okay user? You sound like you have problems. You just admitted it's waifugarabage but why even bother coming here on the first place if you didn't want that to even happen?

The voice acting in this game is so fucking awful its not worth bearing to play the game

*Weeb

Free ego points.

>week game

phoneposting buttfaggot GTFO

I preferred Torna's combat over 2's because of this. Even though it does end up becoming the same thing, at least special pops an orb on them and you can freeflow the blade combo paths instead of needing to follow some combination making each fight way faster.

It is worth buying. Some side content really tests your patience.

Where in any of his posts did he say he didn't see merit in light story games like Mario? Are you just projecting at this point? I think you're just projecting. He already told you you're right and he's wrong. Why are you still here? You got the answer you wanted. That heavy story games are bad. Do you need to rub it in too? Go play Kirby then if you like it so much. XB2's cutscenes aren't taking your little pink pokemon away. Fuck off.

Lmao inb4 he went for the ego points. How pathetic can you be?

That's embarrassing.

I left fucking predicted bed respond like that to just boost his low self-esteem ego.

He made the implication that, because I found Xenoblade's usage of cutscenes to be wasteful and excessive, that suddenly I want every game to be Dark Souls. Prior to his post I didn't even mention Dark Souls.

>Do you need to rub it in too? Go play Kirby then if you like it so much. XB2's cutscenes aren't taking your little pink pokemon away. Fuck off.
OP wanted a discussion about Xenoblade, I am simply obliging with an honest viewpoint.

>implying implications
user you're becoming a meme now.

>Your right mobile is shot.

I legit fucking predicted he'd
respond like that to just boost his low self-esteem ego.

There is a lot wrong with this game but the cutscenes ain't it chief. This entire thread holy shit.

Its a casual XB2 thread. Kinda funny how this doesn't happen with other JRPGs.

From what ive seen this game looks story/cutscene heavy. Whats the cutscene to gameplay ratio like? I like actually playing games ya know?

You'll be looking at 13 hours of cutscenes, if you don't count the 50+ hours of dialogue boxes and walk-and-talk segments. So I'd say the game is about 2:1 in terms of gameplay/cutscene ratio. You would not believe how much time they dedicate to the waifu characters getting """""character development""""" which amounts to them making a weird anime joke or showing off their tits. And I can get that for free on the internet.

He's right. If it weren't for fan service this game would be unoticed.

if you're just beelining the story stuff and doing no sidequests a playthrough is 60 hours or so. about 13 hours of that is cutscenes. they're not always evenly spread out though, so lategame you occasionally end up with a huge cluster that takes like 20 minutes to get through (though when that happens they usually set it up so that between cutscenes you have a chance to go fuck off and do side stuff instead if you want a break)
if you bring side content into the equation, the game can easily be 100+ hours. some sidequests have cutscenes, but they're always pretty short, nothing nearly as dense as the story stuff - if you did every single sidequest with cutscenes that might bring up the cutscene length to 15 hours or so, I guess, but you'd be well over 150 hours total at that point.

not sure what the other dude is talking bout with "walk and talk segments", the game has nothing like that. the story is all in the cutscenes, in between you're running around exploring and fighting monsters and shit

>not sure what the other dude is talking bout with "walk and talk segments"
It's the same idiot who spent the entire thread saying Kirby is better than XB2 because it has no cutscenes. Ignore and move on.

>not sure what the other dude is talking bout with "walk and talk segments",
Let me give you an example.

youtube.com/watch?v=C-eipdzpv74

Here we have the infamous "japanese humor" scene. But unlike that other guy, I'd like to go further indepth as to what's wrong with it. Notice how, from start to finish, you're not playing the game at all. You're literally just waiting for cutscenes to finish, only to be dumped into dialogue boxes, which then lead back into cutscenes. I'm sorry, was I not promised a video game? What is this movie filth?

>the webm was already posted so he posts a YT video
Ah, ericposting.

Eric posting? Sir, I go indepth with everything I find wrong with Xenoblade. All that guy does is spew ad hominem, calling people names like "nincels" or talking about the Nintendo Shitch. Am I not being respectful by fully addressing the argument, without resorting to such childish name calling? You would consider me a consort of such posting mediocrity?

You're right, I take it back. You're way worse than eric.

Yes, but the first 20-30 hours is honestly the worst part of the game. It's a really slow starter.

You're cringy just like the game. Just end this thread already I've seen enough autism for today.

Yes.

Probably one of the most unique and immersive games I've ever played.

Just be prepared to deal with occasional BS RNG.
