I think that idea was put into your mind by the Rock Lee spin off. They once talked about how they all looked so similar, showing a picture of some clan members, and alongside them it shows a foreigner that married into the clan.

Honestly the original series is better besides maybe certain "hype bits" of Shippuden, but as an overall shonen, Naruto wasn't very good. When your main heroes are entirely unlikable and get far, far more attention than the better characters, that's a problem as is, but Shippuden throws all consistency out the window and just goes crazy in its raising the stakes until it dulls you.
