It'd probably do decent at least, EB had a crazy resurgence as a hip nerd-cred title.

As for if it should have a remake, I really don't think you could capture the spirit of the game in a remake. The original holds up just fine today. Maybe a re-translation, but the one we got has so much charm so I'd love for them to at least give us the option to swap between a new translation and the original.

I'd rather Itoi did a new game entirerly, but we all know he's pretty much done with the series since 3. Which is just as well, I don't think the series stands to benefit from being milked for all eternity. It'd just take away how unique they are.

Again, maybe it could stand with a re-translation. I'm not savvy with how accurate EB is compared to M2, but my general impression is that they did a tremendous job localizing it for an audience outside of Japan, which is no easy feat since much of the games personality is tied to its script and the general quality of translations in the 90s.

That said, I'd imagine that like most 90s translations, they probably had some problems that they would had wished they could remedy. Stuff like character limits in the text, deadlines and the like might have affected the script we got and a new take without those things might make for a more nuanced take on the original script.

But thats really down to somebody who can verify if EB captures the feel of M2 well enough or not. Personally I feel EBs script oozes personality as it is, but I don't have a reference point to compare it to as I don't speak nip. Just might be neat to see is all I'm saying.

ive always wondered what M3s original script was going to be. IIRC there was and interview where itoi said that it was going to have more ties to 2 and that got me curious.

iirc the only lines that were changed was due to either copy right claims or a translation error.

Yes, as long as it's a passion project that's allowed to have it's own identity. The discrepancies between the original and retelling are due to Lucas pulling the final needle.

I think it would do well remade in the style of the new LA, without all the necessary shine and blur. Keep the clay-like aesthetic and make a trilogy for the switch. Also fix the menus and item storage/organization.

Itoi is a writer sooner than he is a game developer, and he wrote the script for M2. It's equally as gold as the English translation if not more so.

I've seen a lot new people introduced to the game and they seem to not like the lack of characterization or the small amount of dialogue or plot happening in the game.
I don't think adding a meme snowflake girl like Atlus does in their remasters/remakes would help though.

Pretty much everyone agrees that if there will be a remake then it HAS to rep the clay aesthetic.
The team that did the recent Yoshi Games, Good-Feel, could have the skills needed to make it work.

I disagree with the bike. The bike was kind of a joke. In Earthbound you can go fast with Skip Sandwiches and I think the Teleport psi power. A run function would be cool if it stacked with Skip Sandwiches

I think the Mother franchise can hold its own these days, no matter what it's a massive beloved franchise.

I can't speak of it being good however, since Nintendo likes to huff paint when it comes to Mother but if Itoi comes back, then maybe.
