the game does an awful job when presenting world building through dialogue but the game does provide the info. its on you at this point, even more so if you're near the end of the game.

I will never get why people think it's cool to casually forget crucial information the plot throws at you constantly. It's right up there with the dumbasses that think forgetting names is makes them look hip and indifferent.

Fal'Cie are the gods of the universe. The ones that exist on Gran Pulse are called Pulse Fal'Cie. Those are generally more "natural" and just exist a forces of nature. Sequel games may have changed that.

L'Cie are the chosen warriors of the Fal'Cie. They are branded with a mark that gives them magic powers and access to Eidolons. Your party are L'Cie, and they either fulfill their mission and turn into crystals, or fail their mission and become post-game super bosses.

I shouldn't have to read the codex to understand the basics of the game. Everyone's personality changes randomly each cutscene. One minute we're going to complete our mission next minute we're not. What gets me is, why the fuck would they give me a mission to kill them? Makes no fucking sense.

L'cie= humans who have been forced into being servants of those gods, they are given a task and if they do not complete it they turn into monsters, when they do complete the task they turn into crystal until the fal'cie needs them again

And if you're talking about the very end of the game, the Fal'Cie want to die to summon theall-powerful, capital-G God to recreate the world because they're lonely and miss mommy and don't like stinky humans.

What if you understood it, but you found the characters, world building/story and gameplay to be absolutely boring as all fuck? I tried to like the game, I really did. I just couldn't give into it. I liked Lightnings theme song. It was like they thought people REALLY liked squeenix's made up fantasy names, concepts, and lore, so they just went all out with it, but the whole package just wasn't interesting enough to make people care.

A l'Cie is a human that was chosen by a fal'Cie to complete a Focus. The l'Cie are basically super humans, they are stronger and faster than the average human and they can cast magic, a thing that an average human can't do. The Focus is pretty much a destiny that needs to be achieved, if the l'cie succeed he gains eternal life, if he fails he becomes a cieth. The eternal life is a lie because what actually happens is that the l'Cie gets sealed in a crystal where he sleeps forever. Cieth are pretty much fantasy zombies.

Fal'cie are demigods created by the gods(Bhunivelze, Pulse and Lindzei. Etro is also a goddess but she doesn't have the power to create fal'cie) to complete tasks for them. They are intelligent but most of them don't have emotions, they are pretty much like AI blindly doing whatever the god that created them says. Gran Pulse is the name of FFXIII planet Earth, if a fal'cie was created and set on Gran Pulse he's called a Pulse fal'Cie, if a fal'cie is created and set in Cocoon he is called a Cocoon fal'Cie.

to be completely honest, I didn't really understand it that much either. when they say shit like fal'cie they might have explained it so early and after some time i don't even remember what that shit is. same with XIV with the way they talk and how much dialogue there is. when someone explains it though i can piece it together better and then really understand it. like kingdom hearts story for example.
