He would be a bad addition to the game. He has absolutely no charm. The meme model of him is hilarious yes, but it is a fan creation. Nintendo is not gonna want to make up moves and personality traits that do not exist for a third party character, up until this point they have done third party characters extremely faithful to their original source material. This would not work with Minecraft Steve.
He would not make sense as a fighter, and he doesn't have enough of a personality to be fun as a character. He's fun in concept, but he falls apart the second you actually try to imagine how he would function in the game.

Is it because we actually have a specific number of spots now and he seems like he's very likely? I don't get what's wrong with Loto taking a spot though. Dragon Quest is a fantastic series and Loto is such a cool character, being this legend built up through 2 games and being used as a huge plot twist protagonist in the 3rd and arguable best. Dragon Quest 3 is seriously one of the greatest RPGs ever made. I hear the argument "generic anime swordsman" but that makes no sense. First of all, why be against Erdrick while support Isaac, Sora, or Crono if that's the problem? Also, what really constitutes as anime? The Toriyama art style, the bright colors, and the cartoony sound effects would make him distinct. They're all cartoons, what makes him different from something like Peach for example? Also, with close to 80 characters of course a lot of them will have swords since that's one of the most popular weapons in history. Most other weapons would just be an aesthetic difference, like how mii swordsman with a Viridi costume uses a staff because they function about the same. Also, Loto has a variety of different spells that can set him apart. And before you say "but Robin has spells too" does Elthunder function the same as PK Thunder? No, because it isn't hard to be creative with movesets. I'm so sick of you all talking shit about a perfectly excellent character. Fuck you.

Because the Miis are designed to be highly customizable, they make up for their lack of voice with the character you the player inbue them with your custom Mii and custom moves. There is not a single character in the goddamn universe that doesn't have moveset potencial when you make up entirely original moves for them that doesn't come from their actual goddamn games or isn't unique to their character in any way. There is a reason Nintendo only makes up entirely original movesets for characters that they personally own, and reject characters that don't have enough unique moves from their (non Nintendo owned) games to build a fun character from.
That's where this whole issue lies. You want Nintendo to make sense of this third party character that doesn't make sense for Smash, the same way they made sense of their own first party characters that didn't make sense (Rob, Duck Hunt, Captain Falcon, Mr Game and Watch, etc) with entirely original character traits and moves that does not actually come from the game Steve is in.
This is why Steve will not work. Nintendo does not accept third party characters that need that much work, why the fuck do you think Bomberman ended up an assist trophy?

I do not hate minecraft, I played it extensively when it came out well into its official release and I think up until the hunger system and jungle biome where I grew bored of it.
I'm not saying those moves does not exist in mnecraft, I'm saying they're not unique or fun. Just because he can shoot a bow like link, just because he can blow shit up like snake, just because he can punch stuff with his pick does not fucking mean any of these would make him a unique or fun character.
It's not about "is it possible to make Steve playable", of course it is. These games happened. And in every single one of these games in a progressive manner Sora became dumb and dumber. I hate to say this, but I don't like the character anymore. I think Ash from Pokemon's anime is smarter than Sora and also not as homosexual. It just feels like Sora doesn't deserve to be in Smash Bros.
