I love Reisen!
R8.
I don’t
Why the wiimote and nunchuck?
Right here, bro.
>Will the real patrician of Yea Forums please stand up
Sure, I suppose I can do that.
>near perfect game
>posts fucking Nier
Even the biggest fans of Nier can admit that it was absolutely plagued with flaws. Even Automata which is a gargantuan improvement in terms of gameplay is far, far from perfect.
>Nier perfect game
Best one of the thread
Kind of shit but I do love Chrono Cross
Because they suit well in my hands. If i had to chose another controller i chose the gamecube one.
the "I hope Yea Forums will accept me"
Like at least make a chart and put her there, you dumb cunt.
You don't deserve Reisen.
Based fucking Reisenbro
The hardest part was avoiding overlap between games.
>second best girl
NieR was pretty good.
I hate Counter-Strike, but I can't really fault any of your other picks.
Suck my cock, dude!
Sorry fellas, filthy phoneposter trying to kill time on break. Not sure how this image will turn out.
Took me longer than it should have. Please be gentle.
>Mortal Kombat as first game
Nice.
>pubg
>can't appreciate games with good stories even though yakuza and MGS are right there
Yep, it's autism.
10/10 taste
Why isn't Syd your favorite male character?
>yakuza and mgs
>good stories
feel free to go into detail as to how this is the case
PUBG is a shit game. I only play it for fun with my friends because it's the only current gen game I have that they have. Yakuza has a great setting and MGS has a great soundtrack. They also have good gameplay.
>he plays games for stories
kys
Yakuza and MGS (2 and 3 at least) have good stories, with MGS2 having one of the best game stories of all time. I hope you're not one of those people that thinks for a story to be enjoyable it has to be brothers karamazov tier.
I don't play games exclusively for their stories but that doesn't mean the stories can't be enjoyed. I don't see how you can completely separate the setting from the story and scoff at one while enjoying the other.
>third strike
>silver case
>TSA
good man
No, it doesn't. But who honestly gives a shit about a story in a videogame? And I bet you think that scene is a 2deep4u mindbender. Your cocksmoking levels are off the charts.
>I don't see how you can completely separate the setting from the story and scoff at one while enjoying the other.
Because those are two completely different things, user. Story =/= atmosphere
Wrong Template, but I saw Tenchu and had to give you some credit.
>Ace Combat 2
Good pick. The PS1 ACs have mad overlooked OSTs.
>Third Strike
>Travis
>PS2
You're pretty fucking cool.
>But who honestly gives a shit about a story in a videogame?
It's just another aspect of games that can be appreciated along with the gameplay, atmosphere, soundtrack, etc. You're clearly not in it just for the gameplay or you would reject things like atmosphere and soundtrack as well, so what's wrong with story? Going by your image I think you have the old misconception that for a game to put effort into it's story it has to be a movie game, and that's just not true. A game can have a good story that even enhances the experience while dedicated little to no time to cutscenes or dialogue. See Bloodborne for a good example.
>And I bet you think that scene is a 2deep4u mindbender.
No, it's just a good monologue to serve as the defining example of that game's themes. Please stop projecting.
Story and atmosphere are different sure, but setting and story can't be entirely separated.
Holy shit man, I never said story can't be appreciated. It's a dig at people who put story as a priority or think it's even close to be important as gameplay and those other elements you mentioned. I read books or watch movies for stories. Stories in games is a very recent thing, and most times they're fucking shit that is only surface level deep. It's a reason why I skip most cutscenes.
>but setting and story can't be entirely separated
The chart says atmosphere.
Fun would be MH coop, at the moment, I guess.
Soundtrack is so hard to pick, there are so many that I like.
XII soundtrack is fucking great bro. Love the DS aswell.
Witchers story is solid, I appreciate it too. The more I think about it the better it gets, so it could end up on muh list.
>Stories in games is a very recent thing
What the fuck are you on? Never even heard of old crpgs like planescape? Story has been a thing in games for 3 decades at this point.
>It's a dig at people who put story as a priority or think it's even close to be important as gameplay and those other elements you mentioned. I read books or watch movies for stories.
Why is it ok for atmosphere to be a priority and not stories? Movies can have good atmosphere too, is it ok for movies to make atmosphere a priority? If so, why is it acceptable for movies to make both story AND atmosphere a priority, but games are only allowed atmosphere? Once again, stories don't have to mean cutscenes, that's just the most obvious heavy handed way of implimenting it. In fact games can do more with certain stories than other mediums can because of player agency. The only thing that can do something similar is CYOA books but those are still limited in some ways compared to video games.
>The chart says atmosphere.
Yes, but this post says "Yakuza has a great setting"
So I heard you like dragons.
>fun
I also hear you like dragon dildos.
I love your choices OP.
it's too hard to pick a favorite soundtrack.
Right now, Rain World is my favorite soundtrack but I know there are others I like. I just chose the first one off the top of my head that wasn't Rain World.
I thought the ps2 Tenchu games were bad?
>that autist who's really into dragons
How can Link be someone's favorite character? He has no character. Hell even his name shows this. He's just a link between the player and the game. He's there for self-inserting. Other than being the protagonist he has no really defined personality traits save for the little Toon Link has.
You got memed.
hi
>What the fuck are you on? Never even heard of old crpgs like planescape? Story has been a thing in games for 3 decades at this point.
I wasn't talking about games like Planescape. Yes there is a story, but I'm talking about the recent shift towards interactive movies with QTE inputs. Last of Us, Drake's Uncharted, MGS, etc.
>Why is it ok for atmosphere to be a priority and not stories?
Loaded question, because I don't think atmosphere is important either. Gameplay is king, but atmosphere comes before story in importance. Story should always be dead last on the priority scale (for me).
>Movies can have good atmosphere too, is it ok for movies to make atmosphere a priority?
Of course, because a movie has a different objective than a game. A game is played for fun. A movie (most of the time) has a defined story to be watched by an audience.
>If so, why is it acceptable for movies to make both story AND atmosphere a priority, but games are only allowed atmosphere?
Because those are movies, not games. Both have different objectives. Only people now are blurring the lines with pseudo-movie games.
>Once again, stories don't have to mean cutscenes, that's just the most obvious heavy handed way of implimenting it. In fact games can do more with certain stories than other mediums can because of player agency. The only thing that can do something similar is CYOA books but those are still limited in some ways compared to video games.
I know they don’t have to be cutscenes. That’s not what I was talking about. If you like the story in the game that is perfectly fine. It only becomes a problem when people put story on the same pedestal as gameplay or judge games by the story. Go ask /vr/ if you want a better answer.
Fuga soon!
I have no problem with story being the last on someone's priority scale, I just take issue with the fact that games can't have good stories at all. The reason I started this conversation was because the template I was responding too didn't even bother choosing a game they liked for the story. Is there really no game with a story you like?
He's a hero. He defeats a shit ton of enemies of all varieties. He does cool shit like drinks potions, throws bombs, uses a bow, rides a horse, etc. What's not to like about him?
Fuck, I'm just staring at a blank template. I can remember video game experiences going back to when I was 3-years-old (27 now), and there are so many that qualify as "favourites" that it's impossible to choose.
but would you suck Reisen's?
Still the same guy. Yes, there are games I have played that have interesting stories (although it all becomes convoluted in sequels). If it's a good story, great, but I don't care. I don't play games for story so I always leave a smug George in that space since it asks for favorite game for story.
Narrow it down by which ones have been the most memorable. I feel the same when I do 3x3 for music albums. Too many to pick, but it becomes clearer when you focus on the ones that changed you and elevated your standards.
She doesn't have one!
ok but what if she did, would you relent to her demands and pleasure it everyday lest she get grumpy with you?
Cool seeing Custom Robo getting love.
Fuck, I loved Ciri. Not sure if I'd put it up as my favourite game for story, but everything to do with her and Geralt was fantastic.
the first videogame I saw was duck hunt, but actually playing, I'm pretty sure it was Sonic 3
gonna cheat on soundtrack, fuck you.
I don't really care about story.
That's the most generic description of a character possible. Might as well make someone called Well McGoodguy, dress him in red instead of green and give him brown hair instead of blonde. No one would notice it's Link but recolored because being in or representing a Zelda game is all he has for him.
pretty sure setting and atmosphere are synonyms
Ultimate has pretty much every song to have appeared in prior Smash installments, right? Seems like a good choice since it's a compilation of Nintendo music.
For this activity, yeah, all the visual categories are pretty much lumped together.
I'm not good at picking favorites.
No, I'm not into that!
Absolutely based and katpilled.
How is it generic? Too many fleshed out, modern MCs are confined by realism and don't have the same array of weapons as Link. They don't have his unique outfits. Their personalities are either hardass military stereotypes or "funny but still alpha male" guy.
People like Link because he's not burdened with realism. Realism and more fleshing out of a character invites flaws. It's like trying to pick a favorite female character -- the more she's fleshed out by the writers, the more you'll find at fault with her/to dislike her. I'm not surprised by so many people's favorite females being these relatively bland girls when it comes to personality.
>fav controller
>M&K
B A S E D
Definitely went for a lot of games that provided great childhood memories. Good tip.
I could easily fill each box with 3-5 games/characters if given the opportunity. I tried to give representation to all of my favourite franchises with these picks.
Oh hell yeah. Did you play PowerStone 2? That game defines the Dreamcast for me.
Fuck, I need to replay the Ace Attorney games and Ghost Trick. I can't remember much about their stories.
Based.
Lucky. You were raised on one of the best games of all time.
Probably the most refined taste in the thread. This man is a true connoisseur of vidya.
overlap if u need to. umineko ost is kino
horror for story is top tier
choke on it
>pink controller
hah
I like it too though. The two I got broke real fast because it can't handle heat at all, apparently.
How the hell is DE:HR nearly perfect?
>first game wolf3d
>First video game was Halo 1
>Favorite game OST is from NES Mega Man
What?
>implying you can avoid megaman music as a young gamer when every AVGN clone used that shit as background music
I literally can't decide a single one
For fun, it's usually something multiplayer but I didn't want to stack 10 different games there
For story, I can't give a fuck, I don't play games for story, but FFX is the only one that made me want to see it to the end
Atmosphere is another one that depends on what kind of atmosphere I am looking for, but I've always loved Fable and Stardew valley in general
there are no perfect games, but GTA vice city, san andreas, Spyro and Supermario 64 are all games that have probably left the biggest impact in me.
I have no favorite characters so I just put whatever likeable characters came to mind
Soundtracks is another hard one, on one hand, I love everything made by Jeremy Soule, on another, I also love most things made by Nobuo Uematsu. There are also so many games with a few good songs that I'd rate above anything but I can't because their osts don't have enough good tracks to justify it.
R8 and H8 I guess
I love Fable's atmosphere. I got sucked into it right from the look of the logo, pure fucking kino.
real nigga coming through
how the hell isn't it? it's a fucking masterpiece
Remove all of those extra unnecessary u's and I'll make a chart
Have one more
>Near perfect game
>Nier perfect game
ok you got me
It was fun, but there were too many flaws when playing. The maps were large and maze-like but mostly devoid of interesting things to interact with. Character interactions especially felt like they were close to creating an immersive experience, but ultimately fell short. The sound and music were good. The weapons upgrades were underwhelming. Leveling up abilities felt too easy early on. I could go on. It was a good game, but nowhere near perfect.
Agree with you on the point about OSTs. Stardew Valley, Undertale, Skyrim, Halo, etc. all had incredible songs, but not nearly enough consistency throughout the OSTs to make them my favourites.
>playing your vidya with videos on in the background
Absolutely unacceptable unless you're grinding. How many games did you love on the Wii for it to be your favourite?
Brits rule this board, lad.
is that why it's gone to shit?
No, blame yourself for sticking around when there's a new generation being ushered in. You've grown out of memes, and theirs happen to be especially shitty.
Too lazy for an edit:
Fun- Absolver
Story- Fallout: New Vegas
Atmosphere- South Park: Stick of Truth
Controller- Dualshock 4
Platform- PS4
Near perfect-Ni no Kuni WotWW
Male- Frog/Glenn [Chrono Trigger]
Female- Futaba [Persona 5]
Soundtrack- Scott Pilgrim Vs. The world
1st Game- Clockwork Knight [genesis]
I've played through the game so many times that it's second nature now.
>How many games did you love on the Wii for it to be your favourite?
A shit ton. Grew up playing it non stop with siblings and cousins so the nostalgia alone is enough justification for me.
Fair enough. I just can't think of anything other than Mii Sports, Smash Brawl, and Skyward Sword. Wii was a mistake for my family; we'd outgrown consoles by then.
fug i haven't updated mine in ages
>brigador
fuck that's some good taste
I like the steam controller for what it does but fuck the positioning of left analog stick

You've only heard opinions from edgelords and people with shit taste. BOTW is a good game; all the more-so for someone who grew up playing classic Nintendo.
Fuck, I've waited to play Super Mario RPG for too long. I'm finally gonna see what that game's about tonight.
that's all stars tho.
I draw the line at the og Dante.
my weebly vitabro
TP Zelda is way better.
Thief is definitely in it's own tier above everything else in terms of atmosphere
a kiss on the lips MWAAAAH
If you believe Thief is above anything else in terms of atmosphere then why'd you put Diablo as your favorite atmosphere in a game?
fag
had more exposure to it growing up.
Why Venom, specifically?
Atmosphere and story overlap a lot.
>Atmosphere and story overlap a lot.
No, they don't.
yeah they do. If a reason you favorite a game's story chances are you like the world building around it, and if you like those type of settings chances are your favorite atmosphere will be found within the same series.
