Why did they do my man so dirty in 3d?
soul vs soulless
the cyndaquil line was always shit
yeah he's really suffered from the transition
Unironically this
Why did they use so much yellow in Johto
>2Dfag
>manbaby
Yep, back to you go
Ahem
You're not fooling anyone
too big fire it's supposed to look like a collar
>tfw cyndaquil and its evols are the only pure fire starter
I haven't played a fire starter since him
Stadium 2 had better models and animations and that came out 19 years ago.
Best pokemon.
Literally looks the same as the 2d Sprite. But ok
gen 5 was top pokemon
this.
And not a single fire starter line has been good, until Blaziken got speed boost that is.
A lot of Pokémon suffered in the transition to 3D, which is why it's so annoying that these models are probably going to be used for another fucking decade.
this
What are you talking about? Infernape was good
he looks like he's trying to wank a huge invisible dick
I admit I forgot about him, but didn't he drop in usage when Blaziken got speed boost?
Explain with 15 or more words why the right is better
he looks gay
>he
>ha ha! I don't know!
hol up. why isn't the water coming out of the big ass cannon?
no, why would it?
you're a blind idiot, then.
Gamefreak more like GayFreak
Not just that, but weather wars hit Infernape pretty bad because it made a lot of stuff which checks it better. Also Gen 5 onwards brought a power creep which made Infernape, who was only average in power and speed, start to fall behind. It didn't fall out of OU in that gen, but it was the beginning of the end, though I don't think Blaziken alone was responsible for that because Blaziken got banned fairly quickly.
for a small bit of time but then Blaziken got banned, so Infernape comeback.
gottem
>has
Better in 3D - after all, there's such a thing as attack animations, and it helps make things feel more dynamic when Pokemon do more than bob up and down
Because Hydro Pump is a strong special move, so it uses the strong special animation
Water Gun or Water Pulse fire out of Blastoises's cannons just fine
Lol
>tfw gen 6 ruined your boy
oh wait
Why don't they just make the graphics better? I mean, I know why, they're lazy and they don't have too because people will just slop the shit up anyway. But how hard could it possibly be to actually make them better?
fuck what was this from
Those flames look like cheap painted cardboard. The GSC sprites had it looking like real, threatening fire, even with its limited color palette and the tiny resolution.
hmm
>no
If only the camera was less obnoxious. All that zooming and scrolling didn't mix well with the low-res sprites being transformed by crappy scaling and stretching algorithms because the hardware was shit and the small screen didn't help make it look better at all.
This is my only complaint about Gen5, but it's a big one.
>gf
I said the sprites, not the low-poly model with the cheap transparent fire texture in Stadium 2.
because there's like over 800 pokemon now or something so doing it would require a massive amount of effort
It's meant to be quills and a collar
Pokemon is the most profitable media franchise of all time. They have the money to put in that massive amount of effort. There is no god damn excuse.
because it's one of the most profitable franchises, they know they don't need to put in any effort
the fans will buy it anyway.
I haven't played since Gen 3, who the fuck is that on the right?
thats the problem though
gamefreak makes BANK without much effort on their part, so them changing will never happen
besides, pokemon makes the big bucks from merchandising anyway
Gen IV went and added a lot of evolutions for older Pokemon. That's Rhyperior, Rhydon's evolution that almost everybody hates.
Rhyperior
>Stylized sprite made with severe hardware limitations
>3D model that's actually on-model with official art
Sorry, that's what Typhlosion looks like. I don't like the models simply because they're usually a lot less dynamic in their poses and idle animations but the models are on-model.
They did the other evolutions so well. What the fuck happened when they designed rhyperior?
Infernape was OU in gen 4, he was easily the best starter out of all the games at that point.
>fuck what was this from
Pokemon
They evidently went fucking crazy. In my opinion, we didn't really need any of the cross-gen evos.
>It's a "people don't understand the difference between models, rigs, animations, and textures/materials" episode
the models are fine on 99% of the pokemon, they just have static, undynamic animations and poor posing which is a lot cheaper looking in 3d then it is with sprites.
she cute
>we didn't really need any of the cross-gen evos.
NO, SHUT YOUR NIGGER ASS! I NEEDED YANMEGA
I guess. I really wish the game franchise was put in the hands of a dev team that gave a shit, that or Game Freak hires more talent. There are 307 employees at a company like Jagex that work primarily on two games, RuneScape and Oldschool RuneScape. GameFreak has less than half of that with 143 employees, yet they still work on the main line games of the biggest media franchise of all time. I understand the business side of things, but as a fan it's frustrating to see a franchise with such promise neglected in this way.
>introduced in the same gen as Stealth Rock
OH NO NO NO
>sky battles ruined 90% of flying types
>were also barely a thing
>also disappeared after XY
>Pokemon is the most profitable media franchise of all time.
user, that IS the excuse.
Why put the extra effort in when you *know* you're going to sell a gorillion units
Look at how well XY, an awful, literally unfinished game, did.
FUCK YOU GEN 4
>muh sky battles
shut up about these goddamnit! They were shit, but Pokemon floating in place is not a Sky Battle problem, there are ones like Pidgeot, Yanmega, and Altaria that turned out fine!
It was just a stylistic choice, a bad one, but nothing more
>left one wants to fight
>right one is ordering a cheeseburger
Pokémon Chronicles. I think the first episode.
I love Serena!
I fucking hate this about the franchise. They put in these half baked features just to ignore them in future titles. Who the fuck thought of removing difficulty options? Or small, but neat shit like ball capsules that had custom animations you could put on when you send your Pokemon out to battle? Why were great features like the Pokemon World Tournament never seen outside of Black2/White2? I still don't understand the decision to remove the national dex in Gen 7. Could you not get people to write Pokedex entries? The Gen 7 games were all talking and cutscenes, why not just go all out and add some text entries for Pokemon for other regions? Will this be a trend for future games, if so, for what fucking reason? This is a neat little feature that every game up until Gen 7 had. Worst case scenario you could just reword old entries a bit, this isn't a highly demanding task fucking christ. Fuck GameFreak.
They had no problem reusing old dex entries for decades. It was just pure laziness that got the national dex taken out of gen 7.
>Imagine being over the age of 9 and still caring about pokemon
>Imagine posting pokemon thread outside of your containment board
Actually, weren't dynamic poses for Pokemon in the dex introduced in Gen 7? Maybe they didn't want to go through the effort of posing them all?
n-no.... THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING BROS
POKEMON WAS SUPPOSED TO FAIL
Y-YOU 9 YEAROLDS AND MANCHILDREN STOP WINNING AND TALKING ABOUT VIDEOGAMES
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
STOP IT
STOP IT
We are still getting Smash and World of Warcraft threads on Yea Forums. Be consistent and go in those threads and tell everybody there to fuck off to /vg/. Until you do you can sit down and jack off to discussion about a fictional creature catching franchise targeted towards children.
cringe
Can we all agree than gen 3 pokemon designs were fucking abysmal?
>+foreign
so this is why hollywood is catering so hard to the chinese now?
YOU WISH
where are we now? Have we reached VOLT TACKLED status?
>I have to be contrarian because I’m on Yea Forums: the post
90% of those are fucking disgusting
Oh, look, Its another
>Gamefreak is lazy/incompetent/doesn't care because I don't like what they make
episode.
Just because you don't like the direction the series has taken doesn't mean the games are made without effort or that the developers are lazy. Not appealing to your personal sensibilities is not an indicator of laziness.
>Sceptile
>Blaziken

kill yourself! Cyndaquil was the best pokemon you pleb I bet you chose chikorita or that faggot blue crocodile
factually wrong when gen 3 is Fug and his friends
*except for that faggot Deoxys he is not my friend
They have lots of animations though, just pause it during certain animations and you have your "soul" back, dumb cunts
SOUL SOULESS
I didn't post gen 4 tho
This thread is now a gen 5 backsprite thread.
>mfw I grew up with Stadium 2 and couldn't see what was supposed to be wrong with many of the new 3D models.
FUCKANIGGAUP vs. I'm here I guess
>sceptile
my nigga
That's bad, but still better than 3
Gen 7 is just an abomination of a game. If you thought Gen 6 was bad just play Gen 7, sit through the horde of unskippable cut scenes, listen to your rotom dex talking to you all game, use poke rider to call down a charizard from nowhere because fuck immersion and fuck the feeling of adventure d00d it's 2017 gotta pander to the fortnite kids, check your bottom screen for an exact location of where you need to go next because fuck exploration, fuck adventure, and most of all, fuck pokemon because gamefreak doesn't care anymore as seen with gen 7 and also lgpe.
Play gen 7 and you'll learn to appreciate gen 6 because it is such a masterpiece in comparison.
>well designed Pokemon
>got ruined by a new shit tier nuPokemon design evolution/mega evolution
What's their name Yea Forums?
god gen 4 is amazing, this art style is really good too
did you know only complete faggots hate gen3/gen4 mons?
Alright. Back up the reasoning as to why they took out the National Dex in Gen 7. How the fuck couldn't that be pure laziness?
Fuck you
much better but that fiery explosion effect looks like shit
>we taped spheres to all these animals
>me @ age 19
>me @ age 28
They're both cute, what's the problem
Post the rest.
Look at him, absolute raw power. That is the face of a warrior. The strongest pokemon.
How dare you
>Reading this @26
Thanks asshole
Tyranitar is the purest "monster" Pokemon. There is no debate even Nidobros and Rhybros can't argue against this. You can't get more monster than Godzilla
the colors suck
muk
No
this is a horrible design and magmar is better
haha kys yourself
These are too good holy shit
Hate all you want but you gotta admit Typhlosion is a wicked cool name.
as much as I don't like Gen 2, I can't deny that its sprites had soul
>An angry bird for no fucking reason
Why no flames? Would it take too much effort to animate them?
cope
Gliscor was breddy gud
Garchomp is distilled perfection
Which is why it's blasphemous that its mega is not only ugly, but objectively worse than its base form
DRAGON DANCE WHEN FUCK BALANCE LET ME HAVE THIS
has anyone modded this into the actual game yet
They should just keep doing Gen 5's 2D sprites with 3D environments but with better graphics. Alternatively just have GF/PKMN Company be 100% owned by Nintendo so they can do one themselves or give the project to monolith.
so cuddly
>at some point GF realized they fucked up when they created stealth rocks
>instead of just nerfing stealth rocks, from 4 to 5, they made it so that the majority of gen 5 and beyond pokemon that are 4x weak to the move are just really good
Volcarona
Mega Pinsir
Mega Charizard (X included because base form is 4x weak to it)
Talonflame (not any more but it was when it debuted)
Vivillon (incredibly strong relative to the likes of Butterfree and all the other early route bug/flying pokemon with highest speed stat, 90% accurate hurricane and 97% accurate sleep powder. is also a menace vs other better pokemon if you happen to be playing without sleep clause)
Oricorio is the only other but its only here because of its gimmick
and Honchcrow
Pokemon would benefit from a baldurs gate esq crpg style rather than the boring linear jrpg babby mode. Let me make choices. Let me join the evil team. Let me become a gym leader, let me actually just fuck off and explore. I want MORE options in my pokemon, not fewer.
Mismagius a cute
I liked Gen 7 more than 6 and Poke Ride is fine.
what were they fucking thinking
I love rhyperior
They were thinking fuck the design let's make this bastard as powerful as possible
Mega Pinsir but 2x as good
Imagine wanting to fly so much you mutate into a living jet
70% of those were shitmons when GSC came out
I guess it only makes sense that a hideous Pokemon like Salamence gets an even uglier mega.
Boomburst when
Dude star wars lmao
Nigga when Digimon, which has way more than Pokemon, is a valid competitor again someone fucked up.
cute limbs
Flames are only supposed to come out when it attacks
>tfw most of my favorite pokes translate well to 3D
Must suck to be such a faggot OP
Why does Gen 2 add so many redundant Pokemons? More underpowered bug inspired bug types, a ton of waterlife inspired Water pokemons without a clear niche, normal types that don't shine in anything, barely any dark or steel even thought it introduces them.
Digimon doesn't work at all like pokémon. They never bring every Digimon back to a single game, hell, I don't think they even bring half of them (Excluding Digimon Masters).
I'm still waiting for a Digimon World game where they bring all 1000+ Digimon. Including the ones that only appeared on spin-offs and virtual TCGs like pic related
>hideous Pokemon like Salamence
Lolwut
who knows. i wanted to, but im too lazy to do it
His arms are adorable
>It's a cute loli in a pig costume/armor weilding a giant rocket-powered rake
You just can't hate Digimon designs, as ridiculous as they are, they manage to pull it off
THEY HAD TOADILE IN THE MOVIE, AND A BILLION FUCKING BULBASAURS BUT NOT A SINGLE PART OF THE CYNDIQUILL LINE
>TOADILE
>CYNDIQUILL
BASED Ryoko Kui
Example?
Typhlosions design sucks cause it only works in 2D. If you think the OP is bad, can you imagine how ugly it would look in the realistic Detective Pikachu style? It's literally just a giant rat with a collar flame, it only works in 2D cause you can make it work with poses in sprites and artwork, you can't do that with 3D models since you can see the whole thing.
amen

What the fuck is this, /vp/?
>animated model of it slowly swaying left and right
So much better.
>"I can't tell the difference between static images and animated models"
We can. One looks good and the other looks like shit
gamefreak are incompetent hacks, who knew it
he absolute worst part about this is that it could easily be fixed by having Blastoise hunch over and shoot the stream from one of his cannons, likewise for his Mega's singular cannon
It had a great name in Japan too - Bakufuun, aka 'Fire Typhoon'
No, what the fuck is it even supposed to be? It completely throws the convention the first two forms had out the window
>Single Magnemite
>Three Magnemite held together by magnetism
>"What should the third form be?"
>"OH! I know! A weird UFO-disc thing that looks nothing like either of the previous two forms!"
Magnezone could have been some awesome hive-mind colony of Magnemites all linked together in a ring or something, but no, we get a retarded dinner plate instead.
PBR was insultingly bad, it was a glorified 3D filter for the DS games and had next to nothing the N64 games offered
You fucking delete your post right now.
soul vs soulless
That's literally how the Pokemon's design works, zoomer
It's never had the fire on all the time, only when it's attacking
Discuss
>that looks nothing like either of the previous two forms!
>Cyclops
>chromatic
>has magnets for limbs
This is literally all you need, retard. Plus, it's an UFO because tractor beam
We will never go back to sprites, and that upsets me.
Never seen this before. Proof of concept for Battle Revolution?
Keep in mind none of the Stadium Colosseum or Battle Rev games were developed by Game Freak. Hence why the animations are always so good.
Battle Rev was most likely made to be just a 3D battle simulator per Game Freak's orders, though.
Nice
what game are those? haven't played since pearl
Say it with me
SOUL
HeartGold and SoulSilver
Remakes of Gold and Silver. Arguably the best Pokemon games ever made, quite possibly the best remakes ever made period.
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee available at your local gamestop.
Silver :D
HEART Gold and SOUL Silver. Fitting, giving the shitposting throughout the thread, but that's the point.
Can i shitpost too about Gamefreak? I'm bored, /vp/ is dead
Lol! you're so silly user :^)
>arguably the best pokemon games ever made
It isn't arguable. It's a fact
>muh level scaling
>muh pokemon distribution
Fuck off back to Gen V niggers
both magmar and magmortar look dumb
at least magmortar has sick cannon arms
...
Several pokemon suffered heavily from the transition to 3d, but the biggest losers were the thick boys. I'll never forgive Gamefreak for Nidoking and Hippowdon's awful fucking 3d models. Garchomp looks awful also.
That's more like "explosion typhoon," actually. Which is even cooler.
:)
Comfiness always wins, my Johto brother
I have never had more fun with a Pokemon game than I have with the StormSilver hack. A pretty basic "all-493, increased difficulty" hack that turned HG/SS from the aesthetically and atmospherically best but gameplay-wise middle of the pack, to literal and absolute perfection.
Wtf I love Islam now
And is pretty much the same as the english name. Too.
Why are the colors always so muted
I have to agree with this.
He's right, you know.
You got a download link handy?
Reminder that even HAL puts in difficulty settings in their games, and Kirby is meant to be "babbys first platformer"
Based. I fucking love drayanos work and Storm Silver and Sacred Gold are the absolute peak of pokemon. Got them downloaded on my phone ready to play whenever
gbatemp.net
That'll have the patch. You'll need to find an unpatched [U] HG or SS ROM around, though.
Working through Renegade Platinum now. I still think SGSS is his pinnacle, but this is still excellent stuff.
Another reminder that HAL co-developed Pokemon Stadium with Nintendo, and they took one look at Game Freak's mess and managed to not only tweak balance issues (that Game Freak would later adopt), they also understood that some people like to have engaging challenges in their games.
As much as I love Typhlosion since Cyndaquil was my first Pokémon, it is really a case of "it just gets bigger". Cyndaquil's design is good. It has an interesting shape and posture. Quilava does look notably different, but it loses the what made Cyndaquil good, and it doesn't have that cool edgy teenage look that the second stage Gen I starters have. It's just kind of there. Typhlosion's Silver sprite looks great because of the way it takes up space. It's almost like it has a cape, and I think that accenting its back fur to look more cape-like or even somewhat like a leather jacket with the neck flames being like a fur-lined hood would have completed it. It needs to look like it has something that the original doesn't have.
Once again, comparing Quilava's sprite to Typhlosion makes Quilava feel unnecessary.
Theres a lot of things I dislike about Platinum that I think are steps down from HGSS.
>touch screen implementation isn't very good
>no auto run toggle
>uglier aesthetics
>shitty pokemon (fuck gen 4)
>horrible pacing
>worst rival in the history of Pokemon
>worst starts in the history of pokemon (piplup is based tho)
Gen IV is really mediocre. Not bad, not good, just so unbelievably painfully meh
>people don't understand the difference between models, rigs, animations, and textures/materials
what is there to understand?
nobody is saying they look bad just because they're 3D models, they look like shit regardless
you know 3D can be stylized too right?
the worst starters are the one where samurott is a starter
unless that's the one where Torterra is a starter, because torterra is awesome looking
I happen to like its simplicity.
Stop
Wailord got it worse
>2019
>Not knowing how to make Cyndaquill/Quilava/Typhlosion fire in 3D
>worst starts in the history of pokemon (piplup is based tho)
...Do you mean up to that point? Because basically every single set thereafter was worse. And I'd actually argue that gen 2's starters were worse, but I know nostalgia can be tough to see through.
Also,
>worst rival in the history of Pokemon
You can suck the corn out of my shit for that one. Barry was the single best rival, period. No rival has EVER given you a better run for your money than Barry in terms of challenge. His team was fucking GOOD. He even has a decent arc wherein he settles down and matures a bit. Yeah, he's an obnoxious cunt at the start, but not every rival has to be a dick for you to want to beat them.
Solidly with you on every other point, though. Particularly the shitty Pokemon. It's sad when the pure new-mons (not crossgen evos or babies) are so few in number but still so awful on the whole. And SO MANY FUCKING LEGENDARIES.
I miss the sprites. At least they changed in every game so you'd see the poke doing new stuff. They haven't changed at all since gen 5. It's so boring
Cute!
Gen 7 is actually statistically worse in terms of how many legendaries they introduced, but you don't notice it because you can catch stuff that isn't Bidoof and Staravia.
Jewfreak intentionally leaves out features out of new games so they always have a reason to make more remakes. It's disgusting.
>but you don't notice it because the only things you ever see are Kantomons and recolored Kantomons
Fixed that for you.
Yeah, I just remember Gen 5 looking like an ugly, blurry mess with an obnoxiously dark color palette. Then I see some ripped sprites and some screenshots of the game in Spring and Summer (I only ever played it in Fall and Winter since those were the seasons it happened to be in-game when it was released) and think, "Damn, Pokemon BW looks like THAT?" The worse part is that it probably took several artists to make all the assets, and only one dumbass to make them look fucking terrible.
The 3D models were outsourced to Creatures Inc. and were just meant to be copy/pastable resources.
Pokemon BW is the Dark Souls 2 of Pokemon. Tons of new ideas and concepts, an effort to get away from their breakout success and try something fresh, and a few exceptionally poor decisions causing the whole thing to feel like a very mixed bag. And like DS2, it's my absolute favorite. But it's also very easy to understand why a lot of people dislike it.
Cross-gen evos are a great idea and I wish that we would get more of them instead of fucking Mega Evolutions. But most of the ones in Gen IV were really ill-conceived. What jackass thought that people would like having so many evos stuck behind trades while holding rare items that do literally nothing else?
The sprites of the old days prioritized "dynamic" poses. Typhlosion doesn't always have that fire burning on its back, it only happens when it's getting ready to launch an attack. Since Pokemon were only limited to one pose back in in the day, they chose the most dynamic ones. But for modern games, Pokemon don't have to be stuck in a single pose, so a more "natural look" was prioritized.
Sinnoh let you obtain like 448/493 Pokémon at the time, which is a pretty high standard. In fact, the only Pokémon you can't get in Sinnoh are
>Kanto/Johto/Hoenn starters
>Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres, Raikou/Entei/Suicune, Latias/Latios
>Mewtwo, Lugia/Ho-Oh, Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza
>Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys
Manaphy (and by extension, Phione) is in a weird spot, but Manaphy does technically have its special egg programmed in as a transferable event from Ranger rather than being some level 50 distribution.
The worst thing the rotomdex did in SM was uselessly occupy the bottom screen, it was otherwise pretty inoffensive and obviously just a gimmick for the anime to ape youkai watch
It was USUM that made it never shut the fuck up if you ever acknowledged its babbling
Meant to quote
Pokemon BW is terrible because of the shitty story. There's literally nothing else original about it, considering it just rips off Gen 1 constantly. If you want to talk about its shitty story I'm game but don't pretend like it's some out of this world new Pokemon game that tried to take risks and THAT'S why you like it
Nah, I think Gen 3 had the most consistent quality among all the generations. Most of them are really hit-or-miss, but there aren't many Gen 3 Pokemon that I don't like. And I skipped those games until after playing HGSS, so it's not nostalgia talking.
Gen 1 and 2 starters are the cutest.
D/P let you get more than any other single post-Johto game which is worth respecting in light of the Gen IV hype, but that doesn't excuse design decisions like wasting the limited Sinnoh dex slots on garbage like babymons.
based Tyrani-bro.
>considering it just rips off Gen 1 constantly
Would you mind elaborating? I agree that many of the Gen 5 mons fill similar niches as Gen 1 analogues, but that's less of a ripoff than actually using them, as every other generation (short of Gen 3 for the most part, my second-favorite) does. Unless you mean in other ways, in which case I can't come up with any. I welcome a different perspective though.
kys
And the fucker still almost crashed the game.
I just wish there was a mod to disable all this camera shit. Keep the sprite animations, but get rid of all the scaling and panning. It completely ruins the look of the game. Why isn't there a mod for this yet?
It's a shame, this clearly sent the signal to GF that they may never ever deviate from the formula and is the reason Gen 6, 7 and soon 8 feel like romhacks of the same game.
I'd really love a more serious Pokémon game with new ideas. I've loved Colosseum and its successor for being more serious, where the protagonist's entire journey is dedicated to stopping the enemy team instead of it just being a random roadblock around the 7th badge. Also the evil team is omnipresent and genuinely threatening - turning Pokémon into heartless fighting machines (which also makes for cool game mechanics), taking hostages and threatening politicians, running all sorts of businesses and political offices for their own benefit, allying with the other criminal group, using illegal research to corrupt the legendary Pokémon instead of some magical MacGuffin they found somewhere…
You know, they act the way a criminal group want. Still kiddyfied, But way more believable than any team from Gen3 onward.
And the protagonist is an ex-criminal who uses a machine to steal Pokémon for the good, not another 10 year old whose motivation is never explained and who is just passively running from story trigger to story trigger, waiting for other characters to tell him what he thinks right now and where he wants to go next.
If only GF let someone else make a spin off game with main series combat again. There are so many interesting ideas to be explored, yet they choose to rehash the same formula over and over… due to the failure of Gen5. I'll never forgive Black and White for this.
Those two are okay
Worst in usefulness is Megainium
Worst in design is Delphox
>It's a shame, this clearly sent the signal to GF that they may never ever deviate from the formula and is the reason Gen 6, 7 and soon 8 feel like romhacks of the same game.
Pokemon's greatest problem isn't Masuda. It's the fanbase. Not the few dedicated autists we are, but the millions on millions that only buy stuff that features PIKACHUUUUU, KANTOOOOOOOO, OMG MOBILE POKEMONNNNNNN. And as much as we claim that these normalfags don't stick with it, they outnumber us every single time. There's more money in pandering than in creativity. Pokemon will never be good again.
This
I'd be fucking ashamed
Like half of them were great designs, like Tangrowth and Dusknoir and Honchcrow.
The other half were fucking abysmal, like Lickiliki, Rhyperior and Electrivire.
The normie is the source of all of our problems.
Personally, I blame the smartphones. If the normie never got onto the web, the ad-jews wouldn't have followed and ruined the it. And gaming companies would have to rely on brilliant game designers designing the best possible game and a dedicated team of developers to make it real and compete with other great games for our money. Instead modern "game studios" only need to design pretty animations for opening the loot boxes to stimulate the normie's brain the right way when he opens them to make him lust for more.
Soul?
HG/SS was the peak of the franchise
GameFreak/Nintendo/Creatures fucked it up early on by having G/S/C follow conventions laid out by R/G/B/Y despite it not actually making much sense and continuing it into R/S/E. They conditioned normalfags to expect the same game every time.
how did spess benis's design get greenlit
2007
HE HAS NO GRACE
You mean to tell me a game that exists solely for battles and nothing else has better animations than a game thats actually an RPG?
>the CHAD Gen 4
>the Virgin Gen 6
That's why I don't buy this shit anymore
>an RPG
Barely.
Well at least they don't pretend they are the same kind of game company anymore.
I don't get the point in having a board for such specific hobbies like Pokemon/ponies and not doing it for other things like retro anime or old technology, specially when we have new boards dedicated to shitposting like bant or biz.
this man has an IQ above average
Gen 6 looks like a masterpiece compared to Let's Go
Stadium 2 was fun as fuck. Honestly enjoyed it far more than stadium 1. Typhlosion is still one of my favorites, the charm is the fact it looks so fucking bland until the flames pop out. Only thing I would've redesigned is using the stripes of a normal badger that turn bright red/orange before it uses any fire attacks.
I guess HAL seems more in line with the old Nintendo philosophy of making accesible games for people that are into games already, while the only target audience for nu-Gamefreak is just making them for kids that happen to have a Switch or 3DS as their first console.
Here's your (You)
>I'll never forgive Black and White for this.
it's not the games' fault that normalfags said "ice cream and garbage, wtf? i want my charizard! where's KANTOOOOO?" and refused to buy them. the "fans" are to blame for not rewarding effort.
Not even, it didn’t even fix the problems of the original.
fuck
As if the trainers overworld animations took more than 2 weeks to make lmao
you mean to tell me a $90 billion franchise can't be expected to make the water shoot out of blastoise's cannons instead of its face in every game?
>haunter throwing the bird
hell yea
Based and also my childhood
Underaged retard that didn't play PBR
>Gen 5 sprites are utterly fanta---

>Stadium
lol
When did Yea Forums suddenly hate Gen 4 and 5?
in BW typhlosion had the explosions at all times as he moved and they looked awesome.
Considering the alternative is it being immobile, it is much better.
Magnezone is the center Magnemite expanded by magnetism, retard.
Are you ...ing because you can't justify doing the same shitty animation as in the same context?
he was just proto-Greninja
the game has for the longest been unbalanced in favor of fast strong attackers
That's because BW's sprites were pretty limited. They used previous DS sprites as a base and added to that.
Yeah, when the game is over already. Really fucking useful.
I like Magmortar but they did go wrong on just a couple things here
they needed all the black bands to be bracers, e.g.
based

Isn't it like 1 less than gen 5?
>Gen 4
contrarianism
>5
since release
Gen 2 and 3 fags think they’re still hots shit even after Gen 4 made their games obsolete with the physical split. They’ve never let go since.
BW games are the best pokemon games what the fuck?
while you are right, im gonna say the following pokemon was overrated as fuck. i liked it, but it being gone was way down the bottom of the list of gripes about later games
Assblassum & Nojoy
"Anytime a Pokemon switches in: NO"
Not him but
>played pokemon before I could read
>haven't heard of pbr
>yfw when I'm 20
we'll never see such a complete game again
>not B2W2
Tyranitar has a goofy face
Even Garchomp is more terrifying
Is there any game with ALL the pokemon in it yet?
they weren't even the best of their generation, let alone of its era or the whole series
>typhlosion used solar beam
>3 fags think they’re still hots shit even after Gen 4 made their games obsolete with the physical split
Gen III was designed with the split in mind so it absolutely is still playable
The split was the logical next step but Gen III isn't obsolete for lacking it
What kind of lazy name is Ryperior
In terms of percentages though. Gen 7 had way less numons, and a huge chunk were legendaries.
Totodile pretty much just gets bigger too
Man gen 2 really irks me because of how flat and round everything is, compared to gen 1's rigid detailed dinosaur look, espcially scizor because it ruined my nigga scyther.
nice
Do these fuckers not count as legendaries?
Gen 2 is overrated significantly.
Monster design both aesthetically and mechanically is inferior to both Kanto and Hoenn.
shadows of the empire
they are legendaries basically, just under a different name
exactly the same deal with "mythicals"
>sub 600 BST
>not one of a kind even in SM, can be caught indefinitely in USUM
>sub 600 BST
a thing since Gen 1
>not one of a kind even in SM, can be caught indefinitely in USUM
fair point
Oops, I forgot to post the others.
Most Ultra Beasts aren't legendary. They're not unique in their respective games and their stats are below 600 base.
too bad you remembered
>their stats are below 600 base
irrelevant
Me on the right
I'm sorry. I just know that, sadly, gen 5 has its fans.
Well then, what, to you, makes those Pokemon legendary? The fact that they come from another dimension? In that dimension, they're not that unusual. Is it their unique designs? That's just subjective.
>does Black and White Kyurem
>doesn't do Dusk Mane Solgaleo and Dawn WIngs Lunala
what a hack
Electivire is fine though, one of the few gen 1 cross-gen evos I actually like.
the fact they're 570+ BST and have extreme stat distributions (and less so but in addition, extreme capabilities)
There's so much more soul in Pokemon in Smash Bros. than actual Pokemon games.
ignoring Alola forms and legendaries, I think Gen 7 had better Pokemon designs than 5 & 6, generally
starters were the worst bunch though
and even more soul in Smash Bros. mods than actual Smash Bros. games
The gen 7 pokedex literally gives them the same background as the other legendary pokemon
No it doesn't, it gives them the same background as the Tapus, who are in the similar vein of "strong and unique but not legendary" pokemon
Hell, the Alola Library states outright that the Tapus where just strong Pokemon who just decided to settle on the island because who the fuck was gonna stop them? Who knows if they're a species or not? It could just be a case of being rare in their debut generation then being seen more commonly later, like Lapras or Zorua
>sadly
It is the series’ peak so it makes sense it does.
The peak of the laziness, perhaps. No creativity, no passion went into its creation. Just a hodge podge of half-baked ideas implemented horribly.
Yeah I hate Gen 2 too. Literally KANTOOOOO before the /vp/ meme.
Oh, rest assured, the same criticisms that apply to gen 5's seasons apply equally to gen 2's day-night system. And so on.
They don’t.
Yes they do. They're both good ideas that serve as nothing but a means to waste the players' time in the final product.
this
even its "best" inclusions (designs like Krookodile and mechanics like Hidden Abilities) fall under this description
>seething this hard over the day/night and season cycle
It’s like I’m talking to a Gen 3 fag.
>Hidden Abilities
>half baked
>Krookodile
>half baked
faggot, Krook is a bro and Hidden Abilities literally carry some Pokemon and had a fun gimmick in Dream World
>video game wastes time
You finally figured it out.
>lore
why does that matter?
>same background as the Tapus
and Type Null and Sivally
there's also the "ultra beasts" in the Cosmog line that have the same denotation in the pokedex that Magearna, Zeraora and the other mythicals have
>hating on crocs
Both sucked ass and served to do nothing but waste the player's time.
>oh, I want a Sunkern, better make sure to play at 7 am and hope I just happen across one. :)
>oh, I want an item that's only available in winter, better wait three months :)
Idk what his beef with Krookodile is, but Hidden Abilities are pretty worthless when you can't even get most of them ingame. Talk about reducing the shelf life of a game.
2 hours late but are the alolan forms counted for gen 1 or 7
>Both sucked ass and served to do nothing but waste the player's time.
They didn’t, otherwise GF wouldn’t have added them to subsequent titles after Gen 3 fucked up.
>hidden abilities are bad
Nah it saved my bro Venasaur and extended my shelf life because of it.
Shit taste
Best gen for gameplay, Pokemon design, and style by far.
>people who point out flaws in a game almost never mention what their favorite gen/game is because they know people would pick apart the flaws in it just as harshly
>pre-physical split
Hoenncuck, your Gen will never be best anything.
>They didn’t, otherwise GF wouldn’t have added them to subsequent titles
They didn't. The day/night system was gutted after GSC, with the exception of HGSS. The season system was removed entirely.
>Nah it saved my bro Venasaur
Yeah if you were lucky enough to get ahold of one. Nowadays, since that isn't possible in gen 5 anymore, we can finally admit that it was a shit implementation of a neat idea.
Krookodile is an anthropomorphic toon crocodile with dark eye sockets
it's supposed to be a bandit Pokemon but the only aspect of its design that ties into that is the eyes
it absolutely is half-baked
Hidden Abilities being Dream World exclusive was absolutely half-baked when mons like Superior were built around receiving the broken ones but completely lacked them in BW. The purpose was to rectify horrible distributions of previous abilities by giving GameFreak a third slot to work with they didn't really need, as well as excuse their horrible game balance decisions by making aforementioned broken abilities harder to obtain, rather than actually give the game more depth.
>It's ok that it looks like shit, because it looked like shit in this spinoff as well
Consider suicide
3D was a mistake. It wouldn't be so bad if they had cool dynamic poses or animations but they don't. They just stand in the dullest sort of neutral pose
>tfw hate absolutely everything of new Pokémons but Megas
>they immediately ditch them in Gen 7
FUCKING WHY
Wake me up when your favorite gen has a fantastic main entry, god tier remakes, and *two* console RPGs that are able to connect with them. And on top of those:
>Pinball Ruby & Sapphire
>Mystery Dungeon Red & Blue
>Ranger
Is it any wonder gen 3 is the best?
>Nah it saved my bro Venasaur
there were other ways of doing this
like not powercreeping and by revisiting old mons stats and movesets
not by fundamentally changing a rule of the game first
Cool concept ruined by the fact that gamefreak are incompetent when it comes to properly representing pokemon in game
>lore
because the lore of a Pokemon also can detonate why it's legenday. Phione is still a legendary despite it's all around shit status because of it's lore of being born from Manaphy.
>Type Null and Silvally
Those are explicitly stated to be legendaries, despite this, however. The Ultra Beasts haven't.
And that last point doesn't hold water at all. Cosmog and Cosmoem aren't the same because you can only get one, even in it's home dimension. It's never stated to be common, and Solagleo and Lunala are also counted as normal legends. And even if they were true mythicals, that's still a step up over Ultra Beasts's status. They're just Ultra Beasts in the same vein as Necrozma, which is to say they are ones but aren't treated like it by the game in any way, including lore
The day/night system stayed constantly well into Gen V. As for the weather system, they always do this. You could make an entire list of the shit they remove every game.
>Yeah if you were lucky enough to get ahold of one.
Online made it easy as hell to get one.
Stadium had a surprising amount of effort put into it, there are so many specific announcer voice lines too. Was pretty unprecedented for the time
>The day/night system stayed constantly well into Gen V.
And it never functioned like in gen 2 again.
one day you'll stop theorycrafting and actually replay the game to see that you aren't missing out on much without the split in those games
>fantastic main entry,
Didn’t happen with Gen 3
>god tier remakes
Didn’t happen to Gen 3 either with that fuck awful remake of the 3DS
>and *two* console RPGs that are able to connect with them
>needing an extra console plus two different games to complete your nat Dex
> this a good thing according to 3babbies
>And it never functioned like in gen 2 again.
>You get certain pokemon at a certain period of time, certain setting will over up and close for you
It did.
this mostly applies to people who like Johto or Unova games when it comes to dishonesty about their games' wantingness
I replayed Sapphire and Emerald last week and I realized that outside of the BF and FRLG I really didn’t miss out on anything with Hoenn.
How it should've been.
Fuck, I hate GF
>Didn’t happen with Gen 3
It did - Ruby and Sapphire were amazing, Emerald was okay too.
>Didn’t happen to Gen 3 either with that fuck awful remake of the 3DS
I was talking about FRLG you insane nigger
>>needing an extra console plus two different games to complete your nat Dex
Ho-Oh and Lugia aren't needed for the national dex, but it certainly is a nice bonus for playing them. :)
>It's supposed to be a bandit
No it's not, it's supposed to be a sort of "cool" criminal, and it's eye sockets are shades, not a mask. No wonder you didn't see it conveyed, it was never as thing to begin with
And no, Hidden abilities were no half-baked either. Serperior had a completely different niche before Contrary, which nearly flipped it's entire role on it's head. And I can't think of other Pokemon even designed around them. Most of them aren't even broken, they're just good or above average, sometime they're even bad like with Tsareena or Krookodile. I dout you play competitively enough to gauge how much they affect game balance anyways
Nah that shit ruined the potential of a solid half of the pokemon in the dex before the split. It was really terrible. Sure you can play through the story fine in spite of it, but it limits your team options so much.
I disagree. At this point, I want gen 8 to have more mega evolutions and evolutions of older pokémon
RS weren’t considering they cut back on GSC’s new mechanics and Hoenn’s right half was nothing but swimmers and tentacools. Oh, and FRLG was kino because it was a remake of a better Gen.
>Nah that shit ruined the potential of a solid half of the pokemon in the dex before the split
name some
I just want past shitmons to be given a chance.
heracross will forever be my boy
Hoenn is like the whole Pokemon core experience in one package
It doesn't offer much that is earthshattering exclusive to its own games, partially because DPPt borrowed them otherwise
The entire Ghost and Dark type lineups of Gens 1, 2 and 3.
HMs are shit and their removal was the best part of gen 7
>25 legendaries when the total new pokemon for those games was like sub 100
yikes
there is no bigger cuck than the Typhlosion fan.
All the hatred that Charizard fans get but without TPC pandering to you
Based. It doesn't need a retard gimmick like new gen pokemon.
>No it's not, it's supposed to be a sort of "cool" criminal
what kind?
you do realize that the eye sockets are supposed to call up a very specific type of criminal?
the fact that you find it in desert hearkens to Westerns, and stuff like Zorro
>it's eye sockets are shades, not a mask
if this was true then they would not have given Ash's redundant sunglasses
>Serperior had a completely different niche before Contrary
yeah, sucking
Glare isn't enough and Leech Seed is nothing special
>And I can't think of other Pokemon even designed around them
of course *you* can't
>Most of them aren't even broken
Moody and Contrary are
wrong
Duskull line
Shuppet line
Houndour line

Laugh and grow fat
there are other ways, user
don't fall to temptations of the dark side
tbf if you remove preevos it's closer to 20
thats gay
its still a huge chunk of the new pokemon being straight up legendary for whatever reason
Literally anything that doesn't have stats that match the typing's moves because their STAB moves aren't usable. Gengar, charizard, most dragon types etc
pokemon is for babies
Part 1: Tekketsu-hen
These UE fanmade demos are always such shit. I see them posted here all the time but they almost always completely clash with the established aethetic of the series and just look like bland soulless garbage
>all those Dark type pokemon who will never make use of their type because Ghost = Physical and Dark = Special
Glad Platinum exists so I never have to play this trash again.
No I mean guys like Ledian who have nice designs but awful, awful stats that really fuck them over. Gen 2/3 are full of these guys.
Yes, it's RSE's fault Johto mons like Murkrow were designed to be shit.
HAL also actually has half competent programmers.
Too bad they'd need basically an entirely new staff, and even if the games were failing they wouldnt replace everyone.
>Gen 3 is full of these guys.
no
>Gen 2 is full of these guys.
yes
anyway, gamefreak has proven since Gen VI they are willing to just straight up give Pokemon stat boosts and dole out busted shit like Shell Smash like candy
Never said they were bad, just had their potential limited by the jank mechanics. Gengar not being able to use ghost moves is fucking dumb
like you
Pokephile, let me guess you jizzed to Gardevoir pics 5 times today?
I honestly couldn't get into it, I dropped the game because it bored me to tears.
I don't think there was anything inherently wrong with the game, I just didn't like the available mons and the game just didn't draw me in at all. I played through a few gyms then gave up on it.
Physical split plus evolution made him better, Gen 3 was never going to fix anything.
>stop posting reaction images!! but thanks for doing so so I can deflect!!
>because the lore of a Pokemon also can detonate why it's legenday. Phione is still a legendary despite it's all around shit status because of it's lore of being born from Manaphy.
How about because it's banned from all the standard tournaments and postgame facilities like all of the other major legendary/mythical pokemon are? If anything, GF keeps breaking patterns from prior generations. At one point people thought legendaries were genderless, then we got the latis. We thought legendaries couldn't breed, then we got Manaphy+Phione. We the thought legendaries can't evolve, then we got Type Null and Cosmog. Who's to say they arent just breaking another pattern they had established from prior games?
>Cosmog and Cosmoem aren't the same because you can only get one, even in it's home dimension. It's never stated to be common
So you're saying something is legendary if you can only get one per save file and is seemingly exceedingly rare otherwise?
>And even if they were true mythicals, that's still a step up over Ultra Beasts's status. They're just Ultra Beasts in the same vein as Necrozma, which is to say they are ones but aren't treated like it by the game in any way, including lore
I mispoke. I meant to say they're classified with the same background the major legends and mythicals have in the pokedex
>didn’t fix anything, still had level curve, Kanto is boring as fuck
Gen 2 and HGSS sucks dick, Johtocuck.
>huge headed manlet vs realistic proportions bear looking thing
gee yeah gen 6 really ruined its design
>what kind?
you do realize that the eye sockets are supposed to call up a very specific type of criminal?
the fact that you find it in desert hearkens to Westerns, and stuff like Zorro
It doesn't have to be specific, just like it being ground could've just been a stylistic choice. Not every mon has logic put into their typings user, it makes no sense for a horse to suddenly be fire type. Also, the anime's Krookodile wore them for a specific in story reason, it barely even fit the mon aesthetically. His eyes are clearly supposed to hearken back to stereotypical anime villians, delinquents, and gang members. This is even reflected in it's actions in the anime and Pokepark 2.
>yeah, sucking
Glare isn't enough and Leech Seed is nothing special
>I'it sucks, so that means it didn;t have a niche!
Shut up moron. It was a bulky support mon with access to paralysis, recovery for both it and it's teammates, taunt, and dual screens
>of course *you* can't
Name one.
>Moody and Contrary are
Moody is actually only banned because it can raise evasion. even if it couldn't, it would still b e shit because it raises and lowers random stats and makes setting up a decent strategy around it near impossible.
Contrary is a case where it would be broken if it was given to an overbearing mon, but it hasn't, so it isn't. Balancing isn't thought of in a bubble, you know.
>no
Gen 3 is full of frail mixed attackers.
Officially they are always grouped separately from legendaries in all media, and are never included on lists of legendaries or events celebrating legendary Pokemon. UBs are officially not legendaries no matter what people say.
Functionally in game they have trade/party restrictions because in SM there was a limited amount (e.g. you could only catch four Pheromosa). In USUM the ones from SM spawn infinitely.
>plus evolution
this makes the argument null
it's not really fixing the Pokemon
it's making a new one that's better than the old one
so it's irrelevant to the argument
>Physical split
if Phys split was in RSE all Murkrow would get is physical Faint Attack; it still has garbage stats that can't make much use of it
>Gen 3 was never going to fix anything
it gave Pokemon more moves and abilities to work with---that is actually fixing things
Fireless Typhlosion is literally just Snorlax slimmed down.
Retarded fucking image, not because it groups UBs under sublegend (obviously it's going by the DM info) but because it sticks the Solgaleo/Lunala evo line and Necrozma under it. The fuck is this garbage, going by the TCG's rules?
>How about because it's banned from all the standard tournaments and postgame facilities like all of the other major legendary/mythical pokemon are? If anything, GF keeps breaking patterns from prior generations. At one point people thought legendaries were genderless, then we got the latis. We thought legendaries couldn't breed, then we got Manaphy+Phione. We the thought legendaries can't evolve, then we got Type Null and Cosmog. Who's to say they arent just breaking another pattern they had established from prior games?
big brain argument
>>Gen 3 was never going to fix anything
>it gave Pokemon more moves and abilities to work with---that is actually fixing things
All of that went into the trash until the physical split made them better, hell thats the entirety of Gen 4.
He’s actually Charizard with a new paint job.
>it makes no sense for a horse to suddenly be fire type
Yikes
You have no idea how much you should have taken high school Latin
My issue with a lot of the gen iv cross evos were that they all looked extra bulbous and round for some reason. Maybe it was just a gen iv thing. Togekiss is still based.
Haven't touched a pokemon game since gen 3.
Which pokemon game has the best story? I'm assuming the games have an actual storyline now?
It's called sprite art retard vs a boring lifeless bear thing. fucking zoomers.
Aah typhlosion my OG nigga friend. Slap flame wheel on that nigga and go to town on every gym leader. Made kanto gym leaders bend the knee to typhlosion flame wheel and lugia aeroblast. Slap a zap cannon on the alakazam and the bro trio of death was complete.
Under Ultra Beast I mean. Regardless of what the game says about the UBs and the shared cry, the mascots aren't officially considered ultra beasts. Fuck I'm so mad that people are stupid enough to fall for it.
No, I was talking in an in-game context. It is a legendary because it comes from another one via a unique method, not because it's banned from non-canon tournaments and facilities.
>So you're saying something is legendary if you can only get one per save file and is seemingly exceedingly rare otherwise?
No, I'm saying there are things that separate them from the other Ultra Beasts, which is what I took a problem with in your statement. Legendary or not, they are not comparable to Ultra Beasts
>I mispoke. I meant to say they're classified with the same background the major legends and mythicals have in the pokedex
Once again, no they aren't. Ultra Beasts have a green background, shared with the Tapus and Type: Null and Silvally.
>Gen 3 is full of frail mixed attackers.
that's not awful stats, especially not in the context of Gen III
Pokemon is never going to have good story while the current staff of GameFreak is still around. Just dont come back, the fans suck the company is lazy greedy fucks
>All of that went into the trash
load of cradilys
Gen 5 (Black and White/Black and White 2) and Gen 7 (Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Moon) are the most plot heavy, with 7 leaning on it a lot more (to the point where people criticize the amount of dialogue).
None of them are terribly good but I guess Black and White's was tolerable.
MAH NIGGA
Just play Platinum, BW and BW2. They’re the holy trinity of Pokemon.
>Which pokemon game has the best story?
really depends what you look for in a story, but honestly Kanto's story is still top dog
imho Platinum's telling of Sinnoh's comes second
>custom animation for balls
everyone kept putting nigger so they stopped
Phione's just banned because it's designated as an event Pokemon and GF bans all event-only Pokemon because they consider it unfair to pit people with them against those who couldn't get them. Nothing to do with the lore. Fuck, even in the games it mentions them casually floating in swarms in the seas and in the anime they've always appeared in packs.
>your favorite mons will never make full use of their types thanks to GF fucking up
Like I said, Gen 4 saved them.
KEK all of pokemon sucks, story is worse than anything Ive ever seen. Even Pac man has a better story. BTW Holy trinity is HGSS, Emerald and B2W2
the only thing wrong with rhyperior is that it lacks ears, rhydon got the whole dinosaur-rhino monster down well, but rhyperior only looks like a dinosaur monster, having ears would grey the two together.
honestly though it does look ok if you look at it as a old football or a rugby player
as long as you can admit GSC introduced shit Pokemon and does not deserve to be praised for its dex, we can agree Gen IV was an improvement
>hurr durr models are shit.
>When the real issue is shit animations and lighting/texture work.
BASED. Finally a poster on Yea Forums that doesn't have Masuda's cock deep in their throat.
wrong, many of the gen iv cross evos were absolutely based. we need more, especially for crabrawler.
Everything here is null because UBs are always left out of anything GF says is legendary and have never, ever been grouped, named, or even sat with them in official media. They aren't legendaries. Even shit with no actual legends surrounding them like Type: Null is officially named as legendary in official media.
However, functionally in gameplay they WORK as legendaries. Their stats and designations all function identically to them.
TLDR: UBs aren't officially legendaries and never have been, but they work the same way for the most part and in game they have the same restrictions due to trade/balance rules.
picky sizequeen
Fucking shit taste. zoomer.
>KEK all of pokemon sucks
opinion discarded
> story is worse than anything Ive ever seen
prior to Unova the story was minimal, yet a minimal story can absolutely be well told, which was the case for at least one Gen, easily arguably for more
>BTW Holy trinity is HGSS, Emerald and B2W2
this isn't the topic of discussion
just update the stats so bros like tauros can have a fighting chance online
>Holy trinity is HGSS, Emerald
>Level curve, shit distribution rates, home region took a back seat for KANTOOOO
>pre-physical split
Lol
Mew exist in bulk too, that doesn't make it any less special.
Lugia was also shown to have a child, the anime doesn't mean shit.
I'm saying it's considered special BECAUSE it as lore that ties it back to Manaphy. The two things aren't mutually exclusive, of course, it doesn't have to have a connection to be considered special, but THAT is the justification for it's mythical status, thus it's banning from certain events.
Not him but they were all shit as plots.
What was good was the setting and worldbuilding, not the plot itself. The plot is always "kid beats big bad guys with powerful Pokemon after becoming a masteeeerrrrrr" but in many older ones, they had lots of neat touches and optional areas that added a shitload to how "alive" the world felt.
Oh I agree. GSC had the the baby-preevolutions and a shitload of weak moms. T-Tar and Scizor and a handful were the saving grace of that Gen.
I mean mate I agree the UBs aren't legendary and anyone saying they are is retarded, but you have to at least realize that the main reason Phione is banned isn't because of any sort of lore, right? It's because GF always excludes event-only Pokemon from dex completion and competitive events. This is why they excluded Ho-Oh and Lugia from the Gen 3 diploma requirements, since before the two GC games came out, the only way to get them was from events. This is why Deoxys is REQUIRED to complete the ORAS diploma.
grim reminder
Platinum actually fixed it predecessors’ flaws, HGSS didn’t do shit and had the same flaws as GSC.
>Never seen this before. Proof of concept for Battle Revolution?
That's what they showed at e3 back when Battle Rev was first announced for Wii. While it looks nice, it's clearly pre-rendered and as such falls under bullshots and false advertising, not sure what the user posting it wanted to say with it.
Bro, you might as well post learnsets too. It wasn’t until Gen 4 that learnsets became good.
What even is typhlosion supposed to be?
mustelidae
Wait, I didn't mean it's lore is DIRECTLY what causes it to be banned
It's banned because it's mythical. It's mythical because it has ties to Manaphy, which is also a mythical. I meant that it's lore denoted it being mythical, thus leading to it being banned. sorry if I worded it too shit for you to notice
exactly my point
no need to prolong a poorly thought out, poorly implemented, game-breaking gimmick
>people shit on gen 5
>say there Favorite is emerald or fucking trash gen 1
They tweaked the level curve but it was so minor it actually didn't matter. Also added the safari zone when the originals didn't even have it. Swarms were improved and added gen 3 and 4 stuff.
Gen 2 sprites were pretty baller. But then again it was pretty fucking late in the game to still be doing 8 bit graphics so they really went wild with this one.
No substitute for style.
>Not him but they were all shit as plots
I disagree.
>What was good was the setting and worldbuilding
that too is good
>The plot is always "kid beats big bad guys with powerful Pokemon after becoming a masteeeerrrrrr"
no, it happens before they become a master, everytime
and no, it doesn't involve powerful Pokemon pre-Gen V
get your facts straight
the plots are cool
Why would I put the same game twice in the holy trinity?
>He didn't pick Totodile
exactly
there's no sense in being a nostalgiafag and excusing GF for doing your favored region dirty
>Also added the safari zone when the originals didn't even have it.
Midgame and required you to progress through the game to get the good Pokemon. Plus the distribution was still poor for the rest of the game.
GF was retarded and Gen 3 is obsolete.
>Midgame
where as the original safari zone would have been still in kanto if it was finished
No, they're not. Gen 1's plot was bland and basic, on the level of a children's cartoon but without any appealing animation to accompany it. Even the manga told the story better. Gen 2's wasn't any better and lacked the same newness of 1's fresh plot. Gen 3's was buttfuck retarded and it only got worse from there.
But what they all had until the 3D games was an amazing, lively world. Even in Gen 1, the non-plot related little details and observable stuff created a cohesive, living world that made it so much more enjoyable.
Yeah, well, when you have 900 different pokes to model and animate, you tend to give the old ones you don't personally care about to the interns who can't model for shit.
I'll bet it's a lot harder to find a stale and statically rendered pokemon from the generation they were first new in (not to say that their designs weren't shit).
*cough*
Even Kanto safari zone was hot trash. Outside of Kangaskhan and Scyther, there’s nothing.
Post Gen 2 Natu learnset.
(you)
yeah, how can random niggers on Yea Forums be so based?
Not lying, Typhlosion's leaked squall-looking sprite is probably a significant portion of why I originally got into sprites and then art in general.
>gardevoirfag is a fag
What else is new.
Looks awful
Fuck off newfag.
>hur dur gf is small indie company
and dratini and chansey but ok I guess? Point is that GSC safari zone was unfinished and cut while HGSS added it back and it was pretty well done.
I guess? If anything the lore just sort of existed to explain why you couldn't have infinite Manaphies. I think the lore comes in a distant second when they're trying to decide if it's mythical or not though, since it's such a different designation from legendaries due to the event status.
What Pokemon's gonna be the last one, lads?
i literally dont understand why game freak decides to have pokemon like butterfree and others with low stats just have those low stats after all of these years and all of the pokemon that have fallen victim to power creep over time.
what is wrong with game freak?
NIGGER
the problem is every pokemon has this basic ass pose for their idle, and they're only animated enough to look alive. they could have the same amount of animations and just give each animation more personality.
Dratini could be gotten earlier as a reward for trading coins. Anyway the safari zone came too late to make up for the early game and the later half plus Kanto was pretty sparse.
NINTENDO
in JP blue and yellow you couldn't get it for coins
HIRE
Small indie companies can't afford shitty interns, you NEET. Real world experience would have taught you that if you ever bothered to get a job.
>playing RBY when FRLG exists
Gen 2 starter pokemon are the best starter pokemon designs in the entire franchise.
you have a weakness to Gyarados and Kingdra types
well if we're talking about FRLG you can get dragonair in the safari zone
gliscor
Typhlosion and Feraligatr are too basic
Meganium is a great design tho
Yea Forums hates gen 5 now? What happened?
I thought of that first but redundant when he has Torterra
always has
younger people still prefer it though
>always has
Bullshit
Yea Forums has shit taste
The Vs Seeker made Dratini training easier.
Trying to defend gen 6 and 7's shittiness by attacking the best games
>Trying to defend gen 2 and 4’s shittiness by attacking the best games
FTFY
hmmm...
The problem I have with Gen 2s is that their starters (tier 1) aren't distinct enough and yet their evolutions don't tell much of a story. The earlier starters (gen 1) had really complete and compact "pick me" phases, but each phase after was just "I'm me but bigger." So Gen 2 starters are in an awkward phase between aesthetic completeness (which Gen 1 mastered) and narrative completeness (which, I think, varying parts of Gen 3+ mastered).
Like Todadile is great, but he's no Squirtle and yet he still just goes from "Todadile" to "bigger Todadile" to "Massive Todadile."
Whereas, just as an example, Torchic went from cute little chic to martial arts adept to "master of blazing stream, rising knee style." So it was more engaging to watch him evolve.
Gen 6/7 are vilified for being sucking off Kanto and having soulless 3D models, plus went overdrive on cutscenes.
Porjecting your real life situation huh
What the fuck is good about it. Even the colors look more boring in the 3d games
Croconaw has a caveman theme that the others dont have. Bayleef looks distinct. Quilava is closest to what youe getting at tho. Also Combusken ia ugly as fuck
Heart Gold/ Soul Silver and B2W2 are the only good pokémon games
STFU zoomer. Go jizz over 3D
>New bad
Yes, Yea Forums is retarded, I know
Pokemon was never good
Blaziken is lowkey Horus, so it also has that going
Typhlosion is just a freaking fire weasel
not even endangered like the heath hens Torchic line is based off, to explain why they are so limited in number
combusken is a rad cock fighter
That's not saying much though
HGSS sucks
You can’t argue against that; who the fuck thought the level curve was a great idea?
Still crying about scyther huh?
A mature crocodile looks different from a baby crocodile, but they're still a crocodile. A caterpillar turns into a cocoon turns into a butterfly. Maybe you find that to be a better, more organic growth cycle. But you can't deny that the later pokemon tried to put more oomph to the impact of evolving. No linger was it "animal matured into more mature animal" (although you do still see that in the duller ones) and it become more of a story of how a young chic learned martial arts or how a little penguin chic became an emperor or how an energetic amphibious mammal became a fashion star.
Not to say that one is inherently better than the other, just that gen 2 sit awkwardly between the two schools of pokemon design.
