Why is the story of Yakuza games so addictive?
First time I started playing one of the games, I instantly got hooked to it and wanted to continue playing the other games as well to get more of the story itself. It's like watching one of those TV shows or something like that and just wanting more and more of it every time.

The first game really should not have been called Yakuza. Japanese title had it right. Not sure why but it seems like the name really cheapens what it's about.

It’s a cool universe for sure.

Luckily for you the continuity is going to continue with a new main character.

It's a marketing choice, and a very simple and smart one at that, not much else to discuss here

First one came to America at the height of the popularity of Crime based games like True Crime and GTA 3/Vice City. They probably figured renaming it to Yakuza would get more attention than Like a Dragon.

this shit is so 2000s I almost shed a tiny zoomer nostalgia tear
I gotta finally play this garbage while my ps3 is still alive

RUBBER
BULLETS

that is a thing, you know. They're designed for "nonlethal" takedowns but they'll still put your ass in the hospital.

I don't know what they fuck those are in your pic but those are not standard rubber bullets. Rubber bullets are fuck huge on average and they can still very easily kill someone, their used in crowd control situations mainly but you're not meant to fire them directly at someone, they're to be aimed at the ground and bounced towards the crowd.

Attached: rubberbullets.jpg (550x413, 50K)

I'm not that user, but thinking that the rubber bullets twist cheapened Saejima's story is a fully legitimate criticism. It's a meme, but it's still rooted in reality.

I have been mocked in the past for not getting emotional during some of "the great" films and tv shows out there. (I'm a little autistic) But Yakuza and anime can make me emotional because the writing is melodramatic and it's always very clear what I should be feeling. The music helps, but mostly I like that the characters all say clearly how they are feeling and what they are thinking. This helps me understand them and I can feel myself getting emotional from the sad parts.

When your only complaint about Yakuza 4's story is "RUBBER BULLETS BAD" and you think that it's one of the worst stories in the series as a result, you're just an NPC who can do no critical thinking and just regurgitates memes.

Wish I could express my own feelings and all that as directly as they do in these games but then I remember my upbringing was so bad that I always got mocked or ridiculed for showing any sort of empathy, on here as well most times to the point it just doesn't feel ''right'' anymore as a man to show emotions.

It's almost like some feminists have a point

8 years, faggots

It's what they used in Ferguson.

Can we agree that anime got more into some-degree-autistic fanbase from western countries because, as with the actual japanese audience, they need the story key moments to be melodramatic and overexposed as possible to get people attached to their emotions, with the help of sad music pieces as a cognitive guidance for them? I'm not saying it in a pejorative way (Music has that use in all audiovisual pieces), but the regular japanese in terms of exposing their emotions to other people act and hide the same as western people in the autistic spectrum.

I don't see how those can be used unless those too are bounced off the ground but even then i still have concerns. They're so small they'll gather way to much velocity and still penetrate inside of people like actual bullets.

I'm not a police expert or something, but there's obviously multiple types of rubber bullets.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_bullet
>Israeli rubber bullets are produced in two main types. The older type, the standard rubber bullet, is a steel sphere coated in a thin layer of rubber, weighing 14 grams, while the newly improved rubber bullet, introduced in 1989, is a rubber-coated metal cylinder 1.7 cm in diameter, weighing 15.4 grams. Of the lethal injuries from this projectile, most are suffered to the head.

Agreed
Like a Dragon is a much cooler title
Yakuza is misleading because Kiryu is only a Yakuza at the start of the First game and in 0

Same for me
I like that at all times there is never any question how I am supposed to be feeling or thinking during a scene

Attached: 1555783732567.png (451x604, 534K)

If you shot someone up close with one of those it would 100% kill
That scene is still bullshit

Yakuza games are alpha simulators for betas. The "Like A Dragon" title suits them much better when you remember that.

At the Ferguson protest, many people got direct hits from them. Can't post pics here because NSFW but here was that one chick who got shot in the face.

pakconnect.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/elizabeth-ritter.jpg

>Yakuza games are alpha simulators for betas.
Kind of true since Kiryu is literally autistic yet also alpha, and autists easily seem to relate to him.

Cringe

What i'm gathering then is that these aren't "non-lethal" counterparts, but rather just "less-lethal"

Maybe in the face, deaths from rubber bullets are rarer when hit elsewhere. 90% of the deaths from rubber bullets apparently come from head shots.
That said, none of that matters because the rubber bullets wouldn't have killed the guys instantly, if any were going to die Katsuragi finished them off before they got the chance.

Hence why Saejima isn't a murderer, but still had to serve his sentence for attempted murder and a handful of other charges that would have had him locked up for decades, but not for life or the death penalty.

do an image search for rubber bullet wounds. It''s not pretty but no one is dead.

Saejima puts the gun right up against peoples stomach and pulls the trigger
That would 100% break the skin and damage organs
Brandon Lee died from a piece of dirt in a gun barrel, imagine getting shot with a big ball

A lot of people who end up Yea Forums regulars have similar issues. They are so used to not being able to be honest or have to maintain some delusion or maintain a constant mask of bravado. OBVIOUSLY a LOT of people who come here are autistic. How many admit it? A lot of people who come here are very depressed, very sad and pathetic, but the mask only comes off now and then. It's no coincidence that 99% of all posts here are bitter, or attacking/mocking some "other" group, person, website, belief, whatever. Just people trying to feel better about themselves. Day in, day out. That's why you get so many people here whose lives ARE terrible and they ARE retard failures, but they are still smug and arrogant and are convinced they're "surrounded by idiots" and such.

Would you believe me if I told you there were people who post in every single Yakuza thread on Yea Forums? For hours, ever day? EVERY day? Can you imagine how wrong your life would have to be going to make that doable?

Rubber bullets bad
Comically evil villains (especially Katsuragi) bad
Dragging Kiryu back from Okinawa bad
Tanimura’s arc being a cheap clone of Sayama’s bad
I’m not saying that 4 is a bad game, I had fun while playing it. But I think it’s plot is fully mediocre and that’s what makes it worse than 5, 2, or 0 for me. And I’m saying this as someone whose favorite character in the series is Saejima.

Why are people so obsessed with "betas & alphas"
Go back to /r9k/ you weirdos

But how many of them would have died on the spot?
Some of them might have ended succumbing to their injuries if they had lived longer, but again, Katsuragi finished all of them off anyways.

Ironically enough, things seemed to have been way better for me before I ended up becoming a regular on here. Soon after that I just got in the habit of doing what most people would do, though I still try to avoid ridiculing others or just ignoring any attacks towards my person on here.

I remember making one or two posts before where I was being honest about something or how I felt about it and it was only met with ridicule and mockery. It definitely hampers your will to actually express your own opinion at times.

It's good that you can recognize and articulate the problem though, making you a million times less hopeless than the average person here.

There's hope for you yet, user. I know it might be hard, but you just need to find one or two people (ideally not online, but online is a start) who are passionate about things. It doesn't even have to be something you're passionate about. Just people who are unashamedly into things. Yea Forums will ruin you, it really will. It just takes away your ability to be open and honest, passionate and creative. It narrows your view, simplifies your responses to different things. You could even become so trapped you spend every single day here, reading every post in every Yakuza thread, just looking for criticisms of the games and getting mad about them.

Find some people who are honest and passionate, and join in. And don't look back. Don't ever be ashamed to like something, unless it's the bad writing and sub-par fight system found in the Yakuza games.

this is the most inspiring fucking thread I've ever seen on Yea Forums

different guy here but I just want to unironically say thanks for this, I can definitely see myself in these posts and I do want to make an effort to be less of a fuckup

If you socially stunted Anons ever want to talk, I’m here for you.

Hi user. I was invited to a party tonight, but I'm probably going to stay home and continue trying to 100% Yakuza 5. I'm not even enjoying it anymore, but still feel I should. Why do you think I'm choosing to spend hours on something I actually dislike rather than choosing life? There are friends at the party and girls too, but I'm going to just do boring and frustrating busywork in a Yakuza game instead. Why am I like this?

I hope it gets re-released on pc with the rest of the series but somehow I doubt it

how the hell did this turn from a yakuza thread into a motivational one

Because the busywork is comfortable, even if you dislike it. It’s a task you’ve done before and feel competent in, so your victory is assured as long as you keep grinding. It’s easy, and easy is comforting. Human relationships, on the other hand, are hard. They require constant effort to maintain and even with your best effort given may still fall apart for reasons beyond your control. They may broach unfamiliar territory for which the answer isn’t a given and mistakes can’t be undone be restarting.

It makes sense why you’d chose the comfortable familiarity of gaming over the uncomfortable challenges of human relationships. The real question is: will you be satisfied knowing you took the easy way out of your entire life?

Parties are pretty shit to be fair.

Hmm good poi-
Hmm also good point

Literally the best posts on Yea Forums in 5 years

I've made better posts honestly.

>Yakuza is misleading because Kiryu is only a Yakuza at the start of the First game and in 0
the series is ABOUT the yakuza though, its not misleading at all

Oh yeah? Post your posts if you’re so inspirational

No, you're right. It's retarded to force myself to 100% games when I'm not even enjoying the chore. There are already so many good games out there and not enough time to play them. I shouldn't be spending hours on something annoying just to get a completely meaningless "trophy"
All it stands for is a symbol to how much time I have wasted and how badly my life is going.

I'm going to go to the fucking party.

"Like a Projection"
they're tourist simulators you idiot and Kiryu is literally a virgin, go have sex already

Yakuza is quite motivational. It may be a series about organized crime and beating the shit out of people, but you spend a lot your time just helping troubled citizens turn their lives around with some inspirational words, usually after almost killing them. Kiryu's personality rubs off on you.

Attaboy, user. I believe in you.

This series really does attract some of the most autistic pathetic fucks this place has to offer now does it
And it's the same people each time too, it's extremely easy to recognize you retards by the peculiar autistic ways you write

Attached: 71c.png (700x700, 77K)

>smt fan
>calling anyone else autistic

the series has always been a serious crime-drama with a bunch of non-serious wackiness in-between, generally that would be a disaster but SEGA somehow found the right balance and that's paid-off Yaukza is their most successful franchise right now

This thread really did become an autistic disaster.

I think you posted this in the wrong thread?
You might be looking for the DMC thread.

It's nonsense, Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin has nothing to do with Yakuza, maybe thats why they didnt localize it. the naming makes zero sense

>I have used my detective skills to uncover which posters are autistic
>they are the ones who are literally calling themselves autistic and talking about their social problems
Congrats

YO LIL DONNIE

>thread becomes an inspirational conversational exchange which encourages people to feel better about themselves and to get out there and enjoy life
>WOW YOU'RE ALL SO AUTISTIC YOU'RE SO PATHETIC WOW SO AUTISTIC FUCK THE YAKUZA FANBASE
You should read the thread user, there are some posts that might help you. But I know your Yea Forums-cred means too much to you for you to accept it.

kek, must’ve gotten those powers of investigation from Persona 5

I'm not going to post them again, they're one of a kind.

lmao

But Persona 4 is the one about investigating.

I have showered and texted my friends, so I have dedicated myself to it now. Going to get dressed now. I want to thank you for these posts again Thank you

Excellent advice that everyone should take, especially

Even if it's true that Yakuza games attract a large autistic fanbase, what exactly do you get out of coming into the thread and shitting on them? Especially when you're clearly a fan of a series which probably has even more autism in its fanbase.

I still remember this moment during the last few weeks of high school before I graduated year ago where I wanted to buy some chocholate and stuff for a teacher I really liked and that actually sort of supported me throughout the year since I did REALLY well at her classes. Wanted to give those to her in the last week of school or so, then thank her and saying I appreciate her for the work she's doing and to keep going even if the other kids don't seem to pay that much attention to her classes most of the time, etc etc. All that pleasantries and stuff but then I just kind of chickened out of it, or well, not really chickened out but I suddenly just started feeling bitter and less confident for a while during that time so I never went through with it anymore because it felt like a cringe idea to me at that point and thought it would be awkward.

I still kind of regret it now to be honest.

>heard about yakuza a few years back
>have ps3 sitting around
>played yakuza 3
>few years later got back in and beat yakuza 4 last summer
>thinking of getting yakuza 5 now and revisiting kamurocho

Why does kamurocho feel like home so much anons? Place is so familiar, repetitive, but refreshing and comfy every time its a new adventure there.

nice blog

This thread is just a lot of blogposting, so I understand how he might have felt prompted to put it out there.

It's actually kind of mindblowing when you realise that so many people in the world would probably be nicer if they didn't feel so embarrassed to be nice.
I have talked myself out of doing nice things a million times for no good reason. As if being nice was cringe.

Remember that Yea Forums will push you further into the shit mindset that keeps you like that. The whole internet is probably bad for it, to be honest.

I've never played a Yakuza game. Where should I start? Do I need to play all of them to understand the story?

How does it feel, Ishmael? Here I am bonding with others and helping them and you're still just seething away. Remember that next time you're ruining Yakuza threads.

DID NOTHING WRONG

Attached: nishiki.jpg (1920x1080, 177K)

>Man Yakuza really has a good sto-
>Rubber bullets

Attached: 1497302731141.png (1242x2208, 1.08M)

Nah. Start at 0, it’s considered the new entry point even though it’s a prequel. It’s available for both PC and PS3, too.

He did a few things wrong.

Start with 0. If you aren't bored of it by the time you finish it, move on to Kiwami 1. Chances are that will kill your enthusiasm for it but that's okay, you'll have already played and finished the only one worth your time. Truth is the only people who play ALL of them are hooked. They are repetitive and not that great. But 0 is fun, as long as you don't worry about doing everything in it.

Haruka being a total slut who does one night stands with random literally who yakuza thugs killed the entire series for me.

Love ya anons x

I see, thanks.

start from the orignal 1 and 2 and never play the remake of 1
