I would just say it's its own thing. I try not to get boggled down with "right, i will play RE3 after this then CV" because i know te full context of it's existence. I also do the same thing with REmake. I dont suddenly discount the validity of RE1 because so many refrences can be seen in RE2.

Overlap is an understatement. Scenario B feels completely rushed, and both campaigns have you fighting the same bosses in the same spot. For example, Leon's campaign has Annette shooting Ada, meanwhile in Claire's campaign, she died at Sherry bed.
The timeline is so fucking bad.

Only one scenario can be canon at a time. Kinda like Chris and Jill in RE1. Playing the B scenario essentially replaces the story of the A scenario, it does not compliment it.

I really just blame it on the ending. Instead of having 2 different endings like the original, it's the same for both. Leon's ending had Leon saying they have to stop Umbrella and Claire ending has Claire talking about how she needs to find Chris.
I know, that's why it is bad. It wouldn't bother if the original game did it too, but it doesn't. Where Scenario B in the original was to get the complete story, Scenario B in REmake 2 feels the same but a different starting point and a new starting handgun.

The zapping system and two complimentary scenarios would be unfeasible with RE2R's production values. It was easy to throw in that many assets and not care if the player didn't even try the B scenario back in 1998 what with the simple models and bosses, but nowadays if every asset and animation isn't consistently perfect it's OH NO NO NO HAHAHAHAHAAAA

It's touchy. If they completely got rid of Leon A, lots of people would want to reject the game outright over it. More I think than would have rejected it for not having B scenarios. Instead they had all 4 to say its like the original, but they're really very similar.
I would prefer they just made Leon A and Claire A more different, and dropped the B scenarios altogether

The devs said it's a standalone story. Although it doesn't really deviates from the canon anyway. With it being a standalone story just reusing the RE2 scenario, they could've went wild with it added lots of little lore and small details, but instead the game is pretty shallow in this area, it just retells the RE2 story in a very shallow manner and changes very little making things even more idiotic (lab inside the sewers? Why have a reception area if it's in the super secret sewers?)

RE4 had a wonder explanation for this. RE2 just assumes you're retarded.
Mr. X also was a bunch of not fucking fun to encounter. There is basically nothing you can do against him but flee, and you're more inclined to kill yourself/ restart a checkpoint rather than to waste resources against his invincible ass than to fight back when you're backed into a corner.
And before zoomers come screaming: The reason why Nemesis was different is because it had a higher risk-reward element to it. Flee; and he'll chase you down like a bitch. Fight him, and you'll get a cookie and the guarantee that he'll be off your back for good while.

I assume that normal employees came shuttled into NEST everyday via the train that you escape on at the end, and visitor VIPs and such that would have to go to reception would be guided to it from the police station by someone like Irons or Annette, leading them through the series of secret doors and elevators that Annette used down to the cable car. She never had to step in any sewer water or anything, but the stink of the sewage would indeed suck.
Visitors could also go from the Chief's office elevator down to the parking garage + down the ladder (a pain) to where you fight G1, and from there to the underground stairs elevator that goes down to the sewers worker's break room. Using the secret passage under the statue in the middle of the precinct while it's filled with cops is a little conspicuous

This is another thing that's dumb. They obviously added the statue secret passage in the middle of the RPD for the coolness factor, but functionality wise, it's useless. If the RPD operates 24/7 which i assume it does considering the RE2R Raccoon city is a major metropolis, Irons would never be able to access it.

I've just been playing around with this in the cutscenes and damn if the facial animation really is pretty bad in them. Even Leon looks bad like 80% of the time if you freeze it during a cutscene expression and look at him from any angle other than intended. For the majority of every cutscene it seems like I can't take a screenshot without getting an bad looking expression in the frame.

I believe in a much older interview, one of the developers of the OG RE2 expressed disappointment that most people who played the original never got around to playing the B scenarios. Since RE2make probably had 10x the budget, they were gonna do two separate and distinct campaigns. I guess fan blacklash made them want to include the B scenarios. Given the final product, it might have been a better move than if the two distinct scenarios were still relatively the same.
