Tested the before image with waifu2x, and something seems off about the Gigapixel one, like either they're straight up lying to you with the before/after, or it's adding a lot of detail on its own accord that doesn't really represent the original image. The folds around the eye as a example, there's a lot of fine detail that straight up isn't in the upscale, nor is there anything really saying that detail is actually there.
Granted I didn't really try to optimize the waifu2x output, but I don't think the output would be much better, given the size of the original.

pretty sure giga pixel example is the original pic without an AI. There's some jpeg-like artifacts and some details within the cracks on the bird's beak that weren't visible in the pixelated pic. There's literally crevices.
