Yeah there is not much that actually changed since the first game. The only major changes are the character creator, skill system and oni trigger replacing living weapons. But at the same time they added even more mechanics on top of the existing ones so I’m fine with that.

Endgame bosses literally kill you with one hit if you are not wearing appropriate level of armour.

A fictionalized version of William Adams was the main character of Team Ninja's version of Nioh from day one, even going back to their scrapped co-op Ninja Gaiden clone incarnation for the PS3. Dragonrot is just a minor inconvenience in that you need characters to not be sick in order to progress their quests, you get way more than enough to not worry about it as long as you use it just for that. And yes Sekiro is a much, much better game than Nioh but they aren't all that similar.

Even up to way of the Nioh you can live through fucking anything if you actually plan for it. Debuffs are plentiful and effective the whole game, you can stack like 4 different kinds of Damage Reduction and if you actually invest in body you get plenty of HP. Shit, you can cut damage from every last Yokai by nearly half and completely negate elemental and ranged damage all together. And that is before taking the three different attack power debuffs into account - two of witch you can throw onto your weapon as passive effects and forget about.
