Imagine a cool ass interdimensional story where four dimensions (one based on GX, one based on 5D's, one based on Zexal and one original dimension) are at war with each other, with people getting carded (killed basically), whilst the main character and love interest run into their own dimensional counterparts. Now add some actually interesting side characters, a legitimate reason for each dimension to be involved in the war and some really cool duels.

Now after 70-80 episodes of that, you decide to rush the final two dimensions, inject a bunch of filler duels during what should be the most intense part of the story, make the villain a shitty demon version of the main character, turn the PTSD kid into a girl that suddenly saves the universe, and have the final few episodes be dedicated to making some dumbass baby laugh, as the crushing realisation sets in that those dimensional counterparts basically died with no good resolution.

Not an anime, but Destroy All Humankind. They Can’t Be Regenerated is pretty good and it has no magical we save tge world BS like most cardgame shows.
It's more of SoL/coming of age/romance series, but it does go into shit like deck building, buying/opening new boosterpacks and trading.
It's made by the same author/artist duo that made onani master kurosawa.
Only real downside is that it only has 5 chapters and releases once a month.

One of the VAs for the show joined a sex cult but got out it afterwards, nonetheless the character she voiced got her screentime severely cut to avoid controversy

Season 2 originally intended to further explore the Arcadia Movement and bringing back Saber as well. As you can imagine, this would have given some large and very important scenes about Aki dealing with all that. Imagine her being in a season's plot that is also simultaneously her own subplot on top of that.
The trailers featured her in a prominent role along with Yusei and Jack. Crow was supposed to be the final villain of Season 2, with the Dark Signers and die.

Anyway, long story short, Carly's japanese VA was found involved in a sex cult, famous story at the time in Japan, and was released from the show. Furthermore, to cut down their product from assosiations with anything related to that scandal, the creators dropped down the eeriely similar (as a cult) Arcadia Movement subplot entirely and instead offered us what we got today.

And so, adding with Blackwings' success, they decided to NOT kill Crow and instead push him as the third protagonist. Essentially taking Aki's place and reducing her to a "Benchwarmer".
