The post in pic related with the Beedrill avatar is probably the smartest critique I've read about the Pokemon fanbase.
Should Pokemon be handed to a different studio?

GF self-admits the A team and "original projects" are being prioritized over the B team.
Is A team the ones that made the 3ds pokemon games? If so I'm sort of glad the "B" team is the one that's doing pokemon.
>still no Pulseman sequel
It hurts
Pokemon let's go sold well despite being shit, normies at this point don't care
NOT GONNA HAPPEN
Lets hypothetically
>that christian were proved wrong and no god exists
>Sony finally buying Nintendo
>Microsoft stop being cucks and produce a game of top tier quality already
All these would have to happen before Nintendo even considered allowing another not owned by Nintendo company touch the holy grail that is pokemon. Which will never happen
So bury this thread speculation wont get you anywhere cause it will never happen.
gamefreak knows that itll sell for children if they stick to formula so why change it. they laugh at adults playing the games and dont give a shit about them. thats why no battle frontier in oras, thats why removal of half the features in lets go. they really dont care
The Pokemon team has always done Pokemon. The team doing original projects has always only done original projects, however only now has the original project team been put ahead of the Pokemon team.
Nobody said it couldn't be a different developer Nintendo has a stake in. What about Monolith Soft taking a crack at it?
Drilldozer 2 please
Ideally yes, but it won’t happen because Gamefreak, Creatures and Nintendo all own exactly a third of the IP. It’s why Gamefreak have kept running shit the way they did in the 90s for over two decades and haven’t been forced to get their shit together.
That said, since Gamefreak seem like they don’t want to do Pokémon anymore maybe they’ll cut a new deal and pass off development entirely to Creatures (reminder that Creatures are the ones who actually make all the Pokémon assets, all GF do is design them then throw them together into their shitty engine in a month or two) who will then partner with a competent third party studio. Gamefreak still have ownership of a third of the franchise and get to roll in their money while making original titles, and everyone else gets games that aren’t just retreadsof the same game design they’ve used since the 90s.
How Pokémon game will look like if CDPR will be the one making it?
Anyone have that image showing how game freak creates a new model for every instance of a character?
Like every scene where the rival shows up its a new model saved in a new folder, instead of on version of the model being used in each scene.
Perhaps the most incompetent devs of Japan and thats really saying something.
Beedrill avatar doesn't like Pokemon. I agree with some of the points (particularly the last ones, Pokemon fans seem oddly averse to QoL changes sometimes) but I don't think it needs to turn into a whole different style to be good, just give it to a dev team that cares.
Pokemon needs the Mario64 equivalent jump, 20 goddamn years late.
Maybe if this game sucks shit nintendo will make a new IP instead that captures the gameplay feel but isnt shit.
PokéMania
Not family-friendly enough. Just give it to Nintendo so Pokemon be on the same level as Mario and Zelda already.
>Pokemon fans seem oddly averse to QoL changes sometimes
Oh fuck off, you just want your meme overworld shit, Pokemon has had tons of QoL over the years, especially with breeding, EVs/IVs and TMs.
They got lucky with Red/Green even though it was objectively a complete mess, Gold/Silver they managed to knock out of the park and have been running off that momentum and nostalgia ever since. They found a formula that worked and haven't dared to change it. At least Digimon tried a lot of different shit.
I felt like they were still at least trying all the way up to Black and White. Even B&W2 was an interesting idea. And suddenly with X&Y they didn't want to try any more.
It's like 3D sucked the will to live out of them.
Black and White was Masuda’s passion project, and it being shit on by a ton of fans globally killed his will to work on the series. It’s why after X and Y he stepped down as director on main series Pokémon and Ohmori has been leading development since ORAS. Ohmori still seems passionate based on Gen 7, but it’s not like the rest of the team gives enough of a shit to indulge him.
I don't think that anything's going to get that level of a revamp in this environment
nigger I literally said the opposite, I don't want that retarded overworld shit, it just needs more effort put into the existing one, I don't want change solely for the sake of changing it, it has to be good
The QoL bitching I refer to is all the idiots who say the Exp share is your difficulty setting so we don't need a difficulty switch, or people that hate the increased shiny odds, or people who shit on Pelago for being "lazy" in hatching eggs
The one dude made a great point. Mario, Zelda and Metroid all received controversial evolutions that all worked out to be great games. Pokemon go was such a massive hit since it was a way to experience the franchise in a whole new way for better or for worse.
I think the gen 4/5 games were good and added to the franchise, but with the newer titles, I'm not sure who they're catering to anymore. Fresh blood and a drastic change to the formula is definitely needed.
>Fresh Blood
Ohmori IS new though.
pokemon should have been given to atlus or falcom years ago.
i hate masuda now but i do feel bad for him because i really like B/W
Same. Gen 6 was a fucking shitshow since he actively didn’t want to work on it but he did try and make something special which was widely reviled, so I know why he has no passion for it anymore. In the Sword and Shield announcement stream he just looked tired and bored. Ohmori too but less so, i think he’s just awkward.
honestly he has a bad mouth, but he makes really great foundations of games, shame XY's foundation was not seen to its fullest
Atlus isn't family-friendly enough when it comes to their games. Just give the series to Nintendo for fucks sake.
I meant outside of the company. I feel like gamefreak probably has in-house design traditions that discourage producers from innovating.
>Should Pokemon be handed to a different studio?
It can't be though so that's a useless question.
GameFreak owns part of the IP
>Should Pokemon be handed to a different studio?
Without Pokemon, GameFreak would go bankrupt.
i'm sure atlus can keep it "family friendly" for pokemon. i would much rather have the series go to a studio like atlus who specializes in making god-tier jrpgs than for it to get sold back to nintendo so miyamoto can ruin it like he ruined paper mario.
ISIS ruined Paper Mario, not Miyamoto. With games like Mario Odyssey and BotW, Nintendo would make Pokemon great again.
The problem is that when they DO different stuff, it's either garbage (LGPE), it doesn't go far enough and ends up not feeling that different (Gen 7), or it ends up alienating a big sector of the fanbase that they don't want to lose the dollar of (Gen 5).
LGPE integrated mobile gameplay and a lot of extremely shitty decisions like cutting 600+ Pokemon species out of the game's compatibility among a myriad of other things.
SM/USUM "changed" the formula but in a way that was too safe. While fighting jacked up Pokemon with summons was a neat shift from gym leaders, functionally Trials and Totems played the same overall role, and while the story didn't have a world ending plot, it was ultimately a child rising up and beating the big bad guy behind a large organization.
Gen 5 tried keeping the compatibility but making everything new, but that ended up backfiring when a huge amount of people abhorred the new designs they were given, and now the fans of it are segmented because they have a victim complex while the people who hate it think it's the downfall of the series because it introduced an ice cream Pokemon.
But even with these flaws and fan complaints, guess what happened? Every one of them sold gangbusters and got positive critical reception.
Fundamentally, Pokemon is simply too large and too widespread to change significantly in mainline titles while staying their hold on their audience. Part of the reason everything feels so sanitized and bland is simply because they're trying to keep the appeal as broad as possible. Masuda even said around the time of Platinum that he feels less stressed about existing fans because he "hands the game to them to check out" unlike with new fans they have to draw in, so that shows the balance they want to maintain. You have to demand more spinoffs, those can change.
They also lack interest in it after doing it for so long as well, and are probably just chugging along because it's guaranteed profit.
They should have done Pokemon x SMT instead of FE x Whatever the fuck TMS was.
no, senile old miyamoto ruined it with his meddling to remove all the soul from paper mario. if he got anywhere near pokemon, kanto pandering would become even worse than it is now.
No, people that still play pokemon deserve to be shit on. Every copy should have mandatory anthrax filling inside the case
Again, Miyamoto only gave ISIS suggestions for Sticker Star and Color Splash. They could have easily put in more original characters instead of recolored toads.
Let's not call these A and B teams like their is actually a quality difference between those. They both look like they were made by a "B" team.
>yfw pokemon is the biggest franchise in the world
>this shittily managed
Nintendo doesn't own Game Freak, and there's already been numerous Pokemon games developed by other companies that Nintendo doesn't own.
>ISIS ruined Paper Mario, not Miyamoto.
They've gone too far this time
I've had more fun playing HarmoKnight, Tembo and Pocket Card Jockey than playing the Gen 6 or Gen 7 games. So bring it on. Give me that GF original kino. I'll be buying Town day 1. Sword and Shield can go fuck off, since now the truth is out there.
>even considered allowing another not owned by Nintendo company touch the holy grail that is pokemon.
>Bamco
>Niantic
Granted, this is about the main series of games, but it doesn't really seem impossible, and it can always be something like "in collaboration" with other studio, like Bamco helping with Smash or a big part of Monolith working on BotW.
No, it's not. If you don't want to play a Pokemon game, play something else. Don't complain that Pokemon isn't suddenly something different. It's not rocket surgery.
it's less that i want a new studio and more that i would like some drastic change in the formula.
>Highest selling franchise ever
>The most incompetent company in the world
But why?
The more money a dev studio makes, the more conceited, narrowminded and lazy they become. Happens with every single dev that reaches mainstream success.
