It's a good game, but only because it's basically a bit of a gameplay clone of Ocarina of Time. I think people were just ready for something new again.
I see Wind Waker getting more hate here than Twilight Princess. I don't dislike Twilight Princess, but the game is tedious a lot of the time, especially in the beginning. I also don't like the general look of the game. The character design, in particular, is grotesque. The dungeons are quite fun though.
Because of the wolf sections.
They are literal retarded garbage that bring down and otherwise acceptable title.
a lot of people choose to remember only the 3 driest things from TP. The parts were you find bugs, the drawn out opening sequence, and Zant dropping the ball at the end. Selectively ignoring the large juicy flanks of steak that make up the dungeons, fighting mechanics, and the best companion character the series has to offer by a country mile. Its not perfect but hindsight has been unkind to it since the parts that stick to our collective memory dont paint it in a good light
it reminds me of my ex girlfriend
Same reason why Harry Potter became irredeemable garbage after Prisoner of Azkaban, everything people liked about the series was abandoned in favor of shameless pandering. People liked Zelda because it was a light hearted series where every game you were getting a new magical adventure. But with Twilight Princess, they completely disregarded all of that & instead changed the direction to make it edgy & seem more "mature" as a way to appeal to the autistic fan demand from Americans. Harry Potter was the same, the first 3 films were light hearted, fun & whimsical children stories that appealed to all demographics. Everything afterwards was grimdark bullshit that was simply miserable to sit through & ruined everything that had been previously established beforehand. Basically, TP is a 1-1 rehash of Ocarina of Time, that tries way to hard to be dark, mature & edgy, and ends up being downright boring & souless as a result
boring and too many roadblocks. bad minigames. dumb characters. bad overworld
TP is honestly my favourite game in general, but I know everyone hates it. I just really like the game, had a unique feel to it.
I think it’s great. The beginning of the game all the way up to the Master Sword is complete dog dicks and I hate it. Everything else is golden.
It's just mediocre. OoT and MM are better than both Gamecube titles.
Because it's Ocarina of Time: Worse Edition. There's not much you can get out of TP that you can't get out of OoT itself, and what you can fucking sucks. The wolf sucks. TP is a bloated misstep of a game. The most it has going for it is the concept art, but it's not as if the game's character models really replicate it. Link in particular looks awful, and it's weird that he gets played up as being a "mature" or more "cool" Link.
It's my favorite Zelda but I'm also down for its focus on dungeons and setpiece moments. I can see not liking it very much if you favor exploration or novelty in a Zelda game but TP's just solid as hell.
because the wolf sections are shit, and the rest of the game is mediocre. i still kinda liked it though
>dark mature edgy
>soulless
Those are some big o yikes.
Homos like this so5nt understand twilight princess is not trying to be any of those things. Twilight princess has a MELANCHOLY atmosphere. It fucking oozes it out of every corner if you actually pay attention. Its a hyrule going thru a depression. You see ruins everywhere the only lively place is castle town itself, Zelda dresses as if shes in mourning and many of the old tales within the game world have been lost, floating cities and weird bird people, being completly forgotten. Its the perfectsequel to oot because both games like you deduce lore indirectly. Its fucking brilliant but weeb windwaker fags wouldnt be expected to understand.
It's literally a better OoT.
Twilight princess is one of the last genuinely fun adventure games. It came out in an age where we werent quite at the point where every modern game just has to have some stupid crafting systems or any other kinda tacked on menu flipping bullshit. Its a straight up game and if you like the adventure genre please go back and give it a run. Its soo fucking refreashing to play a real adventure game again. Its the last real zelda game.
>Its the last real zelda game.
A Link Between Worlds is good.
I love how the game takes nearly 3 hours to get to the first dungeon as actual Link.
This is true.
It checked off everything it was supposed to, but came out kind of bland. Everything it did was well done, but not that much was particularly memorable.
You're not seeing an abundance of hate, but a lack of praise. I've seen it described as "zelda by numbers", and over the years, I've come to largely agree with that.
It's OOT, except without the benefit of being "revolutionary" like OOT is, so people see it as the medicore expierence they truly are
You'd probably have more fun doing nothing on the boat or organizing your inventory in botw. Shut the fat up.
Boring and tedious, at least compared to other Zelda titles. I don't hate it, I'd just rather play nearly every other Zelda title.
>8.8
It's my favorite 3D zelda game along with botw
2D zelda is just better though
>Boring and tedious
That's ocarina of Time.
Kill yourself people only give a shit about TP because they want to fuck Midna
Go play your Fisher price zelda you weeb queer.
it's also one of the more blatant rehashes Nintendo has put out and there's no real reason to play it over ALTTP, unless you really hate 2D for whatever reason
Never played it, but I can't get enough of this shortstack. So it did something right.
It has less personality than Wind Waker, not enough strangeness to be loved by contrarian fans like Majora's Mask is and isn't revolutionary enough to be remembered as Ocarina of Time is.
What it does, it does well. But nothing about the game really stands out or makes you remember it years later, other than fapping to Midna's ass and turning into a wolf. Skyward Sword has similar issues. They're two 3D Zelda games that just seem to exist as fodder between the "big" ones and have no staying power beyond being just about good enough for the time.
>it's also one of the more blatant rehashes
It borrows a lot from ALTTP, unfortunately, but the dungeons and puzzles are distinct enough that ALBW has its own identity. I wouldn't play it "over" ALTTP, but that's because it's a different game. ALTTP is my favorite in the series and I wish ALBW didn't borrow so much from it, but that doesn't mean ALBW isn't good.
Oh man remember having to heard goats as your first objective? Ooh what about having to fetch a baby cradle? Or maybe running around as a wolf for an hour and having to hunt bugs? Golly what a fun game. (It did have some of the best dungeons and bosses in the series tho)
Yeah i like those parts
The opening really isn't that bad. There's enough going on that you never feel that it's tedious, and before it does start feeling tedious the game starts to kick off with being captured and thrown in the cell.
I would argue Wind Waker has a much slower opening. From having to go into the forest, to sneaking around Forsaken Fortress with no sword, to having to get the sail on Windfall. The game only really seems to get going once you're in the Dragon Roost dungeon and afterwards get the ability to sail wherever you want.
Wana know how I know Zeldas fanbase is nothing but faggots? They always bitch about the aesthetics of Twilight Princess they sure dont try to talk shit on its dungeons because they are in fact the best in the series. Which in fact through sheer objective logic tp is the greatest.
Its called world building.
It's a mediocre game with no difficulty and so many missed opportunities.
Every dungeon in TP is complete garbage except Snowpeak, don't even fucking try to claim otherwise
The dungeons aren't bad but they're not the best either, I'd say the 3D Zelda with the best dungeons overall is OOT
Nigger did you actually play ocarina of time, that shit got pretty fucking edgy.
Like all the more recent major Zelda games after the N64 it got praised to the high heavens only to come crashing back down to earth over the years. With some Zelda it just happens faster than others, like SS.
>Harry Potter
>films
Who gives a shit about the films?
it definitely still is oot
Youre a stupid gorilla nigger dont even fucking try to claim otherwise
I want to agree but they're all just so bland in terms of theme, other than snowpeak obviously. Sure City in the Sky is interesting in concept and lorewise but it really feels like a generic empty sky dungeon. Same with the sand prison one. It just doesn't feel like a prison. The dungeons really do feel like they're missing personality. Compare the first 3 dungeons to OOT's.
>a giant infected dying tree
>a lava cavern with a dinosaur that eats gorons (this is the weakest themed one)
>inside a fish's stomach while you have to escort a bratty fish princess
Then you have TP
>generic grass temple with monkeys
>generic fire mine with sumo wrestling gorons
>generic water temple
They're just so bland in terms of theme and add to the wish washy feeling of the game as a whole.
>Which in fact through sheer objective logic tp is the greatest.
Not if you're over the age of 7.
tp's have better theming actually but oot's are just more complicated and feel less on-rails
Good
>Better graphics
>Somewhat interesting story
>Good sidekick
>A couple interesting equipment pieces
>Mansion dungeon is awesome
>Wolf link and be cool at times
>Some of the minigames were cool
Bad
>Bland colors - it looks dark/lifeless
>Wolf Link can be absolute garbage at times - AKA tears of light
>Soundtrack is 99% boring
>Most of the dungeons are dull, derivative of OOT, or shit
>Too obvious that it's just trying to be OOT in general
>Bug collecting
The bad points are more substantial than the good ones for the most part.
I really don't agree. In OOT the temple's themselves add a lot of personality just through sheer design. The Forest temple feels like a confusing labyrinth that makes you go in circles which adds to the ghost/trickery theme. The Shadow Temple is linear but comes across as a descent as if you're going further and further into something ominous. The Water Temple is ornately structured with interesting mechanisms that are easy to get lost in/with. There's an underlying theme of Hyrule's regalness to it.
TP's dungeons just seem to miss this aspect entirely, other than Snowpeak which only works because you go back to the yetis multiple times. The design of the dungeon itself doesn't add much personality to it in terms of theme.
>>generic fire mine with sumo wrestling gorons
you can walk on the ceiling and you fight a goron on a tilting bowl over lava, troglodyte. Not to mention the hulk hogan gorons in town
What does that even mean you dumb cunt
I liked the baby cradle part and the goat herding only took a couple of minutes.
The real cancer was bringing the cat home because of how poorly it was implemented
>is one of the last genuinely fun adventure games.
BotW just came out only two years ago.
It does almost nothing new, innovative or interesting.
It's not a bad game but it sure as fuck is an incredibly boring one.
>hidden skills and snowboarding arent innovative
>having a weapon like the ball and chain isnt innovative
You probably consider skyrim a good adventure game too
Of course only the same kind of person retarded enough to be satisfied with those sorry excuses for puzzles would need to ask that question.
Those add nothing to the dungeon's theme. You can walk on the ceiling because it's a mine, which I mentioned, and the boots somehow stick to the ore. The goron may as well be in the same category as a sumo wrestler.
It's the most paint by numbers zelda game by far, which doesn't make it bad but there's not really much to talk about regarding it.
No way, the game completely underused wolf link anyways, so that wasn't the issue. It's just bland
>boots somehow stick to the ore
almost as if there's magnets in it or something. I wonder what item you get in the dungeon thats related to magnetism
Those are real fucking basic things for games to have.
Do you even play video games?
What fucking game are you talking about? We aren't talking about wind waker.
so basic that no zelda game(other than minish cap) before them had it
snowpeak is a+ theming, city in the sky is very good, twilight palace is very good, hyrule castle is great especially in the outdoor areas, arbiter's grounds is good, temple of time and water temple are about average for the 3d series, monkey woods and goron mines are weak imo
>Enter new area
>Get pearls/tears/whatever
>When you are done you are already bored of the area
You're literally missing my point entirely. It's just a fucking mine with lava in. Minish Cap has a dungeon with the exact same theme. It's generic and been done to death.
it has the best combat in zelda and also the best graphics desu I love the darker aesthetic. Best Link by far.
so twilight princess is bad because it does what literally every other 3d zelda game has done and had a lava dungeon?
that's so broken-feeling
It has the best cast of any Zelda game for sure
>Chad Link
>Midna
>Brunette Zelda
>Punished Ganondorf: A Gerudo denied his kingfom
>Zant
>The resistance fighters
>Malo
>Ilia
>The fallen hero who is heavily implied to be the Hero of Time
If there's one entry I want a sequel of, it's Twilight Princess
No... I didn't say TP is bad. I think it's just above mediocre. I'm saying that the bland themes of the dungeons don't help it out in terms of staying power and is one of the reasons for why I dislike aspects of it. I do think the puzzles of the dungeons are interesting especially in terms of item usage and some of the best in 3D Zeldas. I'm just saying the themes are lacking in areas.
I fucking love it. I think its a perfect sequel to OoT.
My theory is the faggots that were born after 1994 hate it because their first Zelda game was Wind Waker. So to them Zelda is supposed to look like a cartoon, be brightly colored, and extremely light hearted. So when TP came and was realistic, shadowy, and had a serious plot, they called it grim dark and edgy.
Where as for me, and I think other people born between 1986-1993, I felt so fucking betrayed and confused when Zelda when from a cool 8-16bit modern colored game (ALttP and LA), to a realistic at the time modern, bright and dark well written story like OoT, to a delightfully dark and creepy setting like MM, to this faggoty gay cel shaded boy with neon green tights and and stubby legs. It didn't help that the hand held games also went this way too. I mean I was pissed when I saw Wind Waker, and was bullied for it too. I was known as that Zelda kid that had blonde hair and grew his hair out to look like Link. Then some bullies brought in Nintendo power and showed how much of a fag Link looks like in WW and everyone made fun of me even more.
For me and I think others, TP was a long awaited return to the best form of Zelda we knew OoT and MM, where these Wind Waker fags saw it was some edgy incarnation.
And whats more, it looks like Japs enjoy faggot Link more, probably because he doesn't look white anymore like that and they're obsessed with cats.
And because of that Nintendo will still not shake off Toon Link. He's still the default for handhelds.
And they keep making crappy looking Cel-Links. They made a shitty one for SS.
They improved a bit, but they did it again in BotW.
I was almost okay with the artstyle of BotW, but then I was standing next to a Rito, and noticed how their arms were just a flat surface with curves. They would look so much better with individual feathers. Or fuck, at least draw the feather lines on the flat surface arms.
>deflection
Name 1 (ONE) good puzzle in TP that wasn't the guardian minigame.
Born in 1991 and I love wind waker WAY more then TP, though I like all of the games to some degree
>ancient tomb(arbiters grounds)
>snowpeak temple, ice temple set in a mansion with NPC's actually working their way into boss fights
>water temple at the actual btoom of a lake, meaning you have to swim down into it, and navigate using a staircase
>not a dungeon, but the western town
>the bridge jousting against king bulbin
It's my second favourite Zelda game in terms of story and my top Zelda game in terms of dungeon quality. Also the manga adaptation is good and looks like it's going to be at least 10 volumes.
Fuck off nigger it's good because it doesn't have puzzles.
it was my first zelda game, and i love it. it is also the game that made me what to play the other zelda games
agreed. OoT is piss and doesnt hold up like TP does.
>Fuck off nigger it's good because it doesn't have puzzles.
4/10, you had me going for a while.
As someone who was born in 1996, OOT was my first game in the series and the one I have the most nostalgia for so I don't think your theory is necessarily true. I do prefer WW to TP though. The game just stands out more visually and is just more fun to play for some reason to me, but I can also see why people prefer TP too. The dungeons are much better than WW's in terms of puzzles and execution and there are way more.
Now Skyward Sword on the other hand is dogshit and needs to be acknowledged as the worst 3D Zelda by far
I mean stop with the fucking Cel shaded bullshit.
Give me another realistic Zelda game.
And don't fucking lie and say its hard or that it won't look good.
Smash Bros. gives us a realistic Link and Zelda every time. If they can do it, so can Zelda Team.
Hyrule Warrors looked really good, and the plot wasn't bad either. If they can do it, so can Zelda Team.
It's probably cheaper than the cel shaded style too.
This, "lets try new art styles" thing is bullshit.
The Monet approach they tried for SS looked god fucking awful.
Link having webbed toes in BotW looked god awful.
STOP.
lmao based
This will remain true of every Zelda now and forever. Don't talk about Zelda if you can't deal with it. Every game is way too different for anyone to ever agree on anything, you just get small groups jerking each other off and throwing mud at the adjacent groups.
in ww his legs are short and he runs too slow, i really think i would like that game more if he ran a little faster (even with sailing unchanged)
I hated Skyward Sword's art direction so much. Those lips still haunt me.
Ancient tombs have been done to death. The Spirit Temple in OOT may as well be the same thing. I wish the dungeon had focussed more on the prison aspect. Maybe had you locked up with no items and have to get them back or something.
I said I think snowpeak has a good theme.
The Water Temple in OOT is at the bottom of a lake. This is nothing new and just adds to how generic dungeon's theme is.
this is ACTUALLY at the bottom of a lake, not a convenient door into a giant mound thats there for basically no reason
It's actually backwards. It's a return to form after TWW (But muh flood) and even then it's sort of goofier than Ocarina in parts.
Game feels like it's living in the shadow of OOT too much and tries too hard to one up Ocarina and thus feels kinda unispired (Gandorfs implementation being the best example). The begging is also awful and the wolf form is super half baked. Midna and the dungeons are great though
The gay clowns were fucking great dont talk shit.
I think it's decent, I really like the art style/character design/OST which personally makes up for the mediocre gameplay and pacing
No, opinions on specific games can fit into extremes, but anyone who isn't blinded by nostalgia can agree on a vague measure of quality for most of them.
Is it the end of traditional styled Zelda games? After the massive success of BoTW I can't see them doing anything but trying to improve on the open world for the next game.
there's a lot of weird extra shit in tp, like they had more environment designers than gameplay rewards
>Skyward Sword
>3rd best 3D Zelda
You're having a laugh m8
>People liked Zelda because it was a light hearted series where every game you were getting a new magical adventure
Bro, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were not light hearted. I consider them arguably darker than Twilight Princess in a lot of different ways
What an awful ranking.
Is this bait?
>OOT was not light hearted
Oh fucking kill yourself, if it was a movie it would be rated G.
I personally didn't like that each boss went down in three hits and barely changed tactics. Arbiter's Ground is an exception. The ooccoo boss was super cool visually but kind of a let down. And a bunch of the gadgets were too quirky
I'd consider OoT and TP to be on the same level of 'dark,' but MM was definitely more grim than either of them. The only thing darke about TP than its predecessors was its colour palette.
WW and TP only have atmosphere for redeeming qualities compared to SS which has the best dungeons in 3D Zelda and I value gameplay over atmosphere.
Care to elaborate?
This
>Mediocre gameplay and pacing
Gameplay mechanics was probably the best in TP out of any zelds game I've ever played desub- but - that's only if you ignore the wolf parts.
God, that was linear as fuck. Why couldn't they just apply the same kinds of variations in combat that they had with swordplay to wolf Link? Fucks sake
>I really like the art style/character design
You like brown and bloom and the worst character designs in the entire franchise? Midna and a few others are the only characters that aren’t monsterously hideous to look at.
With how much people bitch about getting traumatized by ReDeads and Deadhands I'd say at least a PG.
Because tp isnt dark. Its somber, anyone who says "hurrderr twilight is dark n edgy" can be dismissed.
>ctrl+f 8.8
>only 1 result
Spirit Tracks is actual trash, for starters. Skyward Sword is also trash. I think the only general sentiment I would agree with here is that Adventure of Link is great, though I wouldn't put it that high myself.
zant seemed like a perv which is dark in a way
>value gameplay over atmosphere
>enjoy having to beat the same shitty boss 3 times
>enjoy controlling a bird with shitty waggle controls
>enjoy swimming with obtuse waggle controls
>enjoy repeating areas you've already traversed
>enjoy having said gameplay stopped constantly for unnecessary tutorials on everything
>enjoy motion controls
Idk man, there's something about watching all of your friends and parent figures die after you fail to save Hyrule from being turned into a zombie filled wasteland that isn't pretty chill at all. Remember those zombies that would freeze you in place with a frozen scream then strangle you to death?
No it was not light hearted. The child section was , sure, but as soon as you become an adult everything becomes a lot more serious. That's the point of any coming of age narrative ffs
this is some fucking next level shit, dear god lmao
Your batteries are almost dead bro.
Nah it’s pretty light hearted.
>8.8
I... don't get it
inb4 newfag
i don't use Yea Forums very much,,,
>Spirit Tracks is actual trash, for starters. Skyward Sword is also trash.
That's not really elaborating much. People always complain about the controls as a scapegoat like they actually make a big deal when it really isn't. The only legitimate criticism I've ever heard on either is the lack of any kind of Overworld in SS.
>having to beat the same shitty boss 3 times
That's a gross exaggeration and TP's bosses were style without substance just like everything else about it.
>controlling a bird with shitty waggle controls
>motion controls
>swimming with obtuse waggle controls
Nitpicks at best, just an excuse to rag on the game.
>having said gameplay stopped constantly for unnecessary tutorials on everything
Nope, the tutorial section is early on and everything taught after that aside from Fi is needed.
>repeating areas you've already traversed
And it's well worth it compared to tear gathering and character collecting.
>giving a shit what gamespot thinks
Yeah going to the bottom of a well full of the restless spirits of a kingdom's undead is pretty lighthearted.
1. They have shit taste
2. All threads praising this game inevitably turn into Midna threads
3. The artstyle is admittedly shit and a product of its time
4. Wii version was mirrored because muh motion controls
Otherwise great game and people need to get over the """"edgy"""" aesthetic.
First result if you google "8.8 zelda"
Yeah it’s pretty light hearted
Nah man, there's some pretty unnerving shit in that game
Nuh uh
Meant for
Rude
having to hide in kakariko to transform back to a human for the 12000th time was really exhausting.
having to run across the map to collect garbage the NPCs are too lazy to collect for the 12000th time was really exhausting.
having to complete shit temples for the 12000th time was really exhausting.
The game, overall, is just really long and exhausting and overstays its welcome hardcore.
So having to beat the same boss 3 times with extremely minor differences just to end in letting Groose or whatever the fuck have his shining moment of using bombs to fuck it up isn't the epitome of style over substance??? What are you smoking?
The controls literally feel unresponsive at times (and yes with full batteries). I just don't know how you can praise this game so highly. Yes there are good aspects to it, but the bad ones really drag it down.
Don't fucking spoonfeed, why do you faggots do this shit?
>That's not really elaborating much
The train is a tedious slog. The dungeons are okay, but not good enough to excuse how simultaneously boring and irritating the stuff surrounding them is. The controls aren't my favorite but they actually didn't bother me that much. That said, pretending disliking them is somehow "illegitimate" makes you look like a cunt. Ditto for Skyward Sword.
It was so unenjoyable I sold the Wii my mom stood out in the snow for.
Pros:
>Lots of dungeons/content (though some of it was brought over from WW due to their time restrictions)
>drastically improved combat system where you could learn moves to break enemy defenses so you weren't forced to wait until they either attacked or dropped their shield.
>clever overworld puzzles to advance to different areas (warping objects and such)
>bomb arrows
>twilight realm was sweet as hell
>midna is best princess
Cons:
>slow starting
>tears of light segments got old fast
>NPCs look bad
>the only item unique to the game (spinner) is only used twice outside of the arbiters grounds, a complete waste of potential
>zant > ganondorf they should have left him the main antagonist
>that faggot ass roll goal game to get the frog lure
I thought one of the main complaints for TP was that it had a huge lack of side content
>So having to beat the same boss 3 times with extremely minor differences just to end in letting Groose or whatever the fuck have his shining moment of using bombs to fuck it up isn't the epitome of style over substance???
No, it had depth/difficulty and gave Groose room to grow from being a sterertypical retard. The bosses in TP were all thoughtless and easy as fuck.
>The controls literally feel unresponsive at times (and yes with full batteries).
I don't know what to tell you, I never had a problem as long as I recalibrated the plus every now and then. Maybe you were just doing something wrong.
>I just don't know how you can praise this game so highly. Yes there are good aspects to it, but the bad ones really drag it down.
The only big issues for me about it were the Overworld and progression. The combat wasn't very good, but it had enough depth to have a skill curve which was fun to climb. It's also the only 3D Zelda to actually make me think about a puzzle past childhood that wasn't a romhack.
SS has highs and lows while WW and TP are full of mediocre areas which makes me prefer it more.
>The train is a tedious slog.
I never found an issue with it aside from the combat, there are even warp points to make traversal faster.
>not good enough to excuse how simultaneously boring and irritating the stuff surrounding them is
What irritated you so much aside from the train?
>That said, pretending disliking them is somehow "illegitimate" makes you look like a cunt.
No, saying they're shit for a bullshit half assed reason is legitimate, it's fine to like or dislike whatever you want as long as you have good reason for it.
*illegitimate
I like midna's fat ass
It was hyped as the second coming of christ and while it was good and delivered what people wanted from zelda for those 8 years (OoT2), the audience realized that's not actually what they wanted.
Liked it much better than BotW tho'
probably because the game was dragged through the mud with midnaposting
>Same reason why Harry Potter became irredeemable garbage after Prisoner of Azkaban
read a fucking book
Tp is the best, Nintendo and its fanbase wanted to switch gears into being just for toddlers and make the same technicolour shit for the next decade.
Seriously, the most memorable parts of games as a kid was when the games would sneak in some adult stuff about death. Now you can't even bother. There's no maturity, it's meant for nostalgia mancghildren who don't want to look at adult things.
Remember the well in OOT? Remember the piano in Mario 64? There wre some genuinely great stuff that touched on darker topics that we just don't see in "kids games" anymore. The old boomer owners of Nintendo have lost it. They don't know what the fuck to make. I think we idolized creative people too much and now we expect them to lead us through everything while we snuff out new talent with ideas.
Should have gotten a MM-esque sequel lead by Koizumi
Midna ruins the game. In the same way Fi ruins SS.
Don't know, Zelda's fanbase is cancer. They like Wind Waker which was so bad that the first fucking screenshots kicked Nintendo off the throne while hating Skyward Sword which was brimming with love.
Because Zelda fans don't like Zelda. They like the IDEA of Zelda, taking over a current gaming trend with a Zelda skin. That's why Breath of the Wild is so popular.
People always complain so much about SS but it's literally structured like every other beloved Zelda. They even gave us more story to get emotionally invested.
It tends to draw it's share of ire because it had too much structure, making it extremely linear. Also waggleshit. Personally, I think it handled both quite well, for the most part. The sky hub world was shit, but other areas were great, and the motion controld usually worked if you weren't flailing around like an idiot, though the cursor tended to drift off center in first person, and I had difficulty getting it to register thrusts.
And swordplay which worked with 100% accuracy for me because I actually spent 5 minutes in that tutorial room with the pillars and learned how it worked. The Stalmaster felt like fighting Darth Vader in Star Wars Trilogy Arcade.
it has some of the best dungeons but fuck is the game tedious. It's so drawn out, each section lasts for a long time and most of the overworld time is spent doing meaningless shit just to get to the next dungeon, it felt very disconnected. Story was dank though, still one of my fav zelda games.
That was the plan, until Miyamoto vetoed it and we got Link's Crossbow Training instead.
>underused wolf link
You mean misused. Because half the game was wolf link. The objectives as wolf link was bad. Combat was horrendously boring and infuriating when it didn't work out. Wolf link was a good design and concept but it could've been utilized much better.
same
most people who play the game seem to think shaking the sword like idiots like in TP is the way to do shit, when the swordplay actually works on deliberate movements
honestly I played WW and SS back to back and the sky was such a relief comparing to the boring sea. At least the sky didn't make you waste so much time, even if it was as lackluster as the field in OoT
I know. Since then I haven't had a single positive feeling about that leathery old fuck who can't get into modern standards of gaming.
I laughed my ass off at his newest attempt at star fox too because everyone saw the light about him
The dungeons were great. Sure, you got your usual Forest Temple and shit, but you also have locations like the Goron Mines and Snowpeak Ruins, where it's not just a purpose-built dungeon and it's someone's home or workplace.
>Same reason why Harry Potter became irredeemable garbage after Prisoner of Azkaban
I'm listening...
>they completely disregarded all of that & instead changed the direction to make it edgy & seem more "mature" as a way to appeal to the autistic fan demand from Americans
user no, I'm starting to think you're the autistic one here...
>the first 3 films were light hearted, fun & whimsical children stories that appealed to all demographics
>first 3 films
>films
oh you absolute fucking cockravaging std filled horsehoove of shit. Go read the fucking books.
>I know. Since then I haven't had a single positive feeling about that leathery old fuck who can't get into modern standards of gaming.
His heart is in the right place.
It's my favorite Zelda game. A lot of people give it shit, but I think the gameplay and overall design of Link just sells it for me. I also like OoT a whole lot, which I went back to play for the first time after originally playing Twilight Princess.
His words and his actions are so different,
He should just let Koizumi do his magic, and to let himself have someone who tells him "no".
His Star Fox double screen was such a fucking mess, I can't deal with it. You know how many years did we wait for a new big Star Fox?
Honestly I think TP is perfect for someone who just played OoT/MM and wanted more of the same style. Other Zelda games don't have the same feeling. And even when it's not as good as the N64 titles at the end, while playing it you just don't notice because you're focusing too much in the bigger scale compared to the past games.
Going from the 64 era to WW is such a whiplash. Still valid, but more in tone with the feel of the 2D games
>but it's literally structured like every other beloved Zelda
Eh, sort of. There was a lot of streamlining the overworld elements by turning them into fairly linear puzzle gauntlets. Zelda slowly lost its exploratory tendencies as the series went on but SS was easily the furthest removed major entry in that sense. Bothers me none, I like Zelda for the dungeons, but even so it's not quite the same for that.
SS wasn't particularly designed more linear than others in certain parts though. But they gave you that stupid radar system for babies. I wish there was two modes that omited big hints like that from the beginning.
For that matter, I still need to beat that game in hero mode.
Well 0 in my case because I always hated Star Fox, even the first one. Kid Icarus Uprising blows the entire franchise out of the water and that's just one fucking game.
It's such an empty game. TP is by no means a bad game, but it's probably the worst 3D zelda
WW is objectively the worst 3d Zelda
Gotta agree with this, if only because its rushed development really shows. I'll shit on the game we got all day long but really WW deserved better than the lot it got.
Also WW still had one of the best art directions of the series until they abused its style and it became generic
Forever cemented Nintendo as kiddie shit while taking a sledgehammer to the Zelda fanbase, and you call it the best art direction?
Are you a sociopath?
WW looks great, though.
Imagine being as stupid as you
Holy shit user, I weep for people like you. I hope you're at least 14 and not an adult because that'd be really sad.
It's been over 15 years, user. I don't even like WW but it's okay to admit that the art aged well, it's one of the few things that did. Aesthetics really are all the game has going for it.
>It aged well
lol. that's why every game with the same artstyle failed miserably while every game without it is far more well-recieved? You contrarians disgust me. Get a life.
The art aged well. WW can suck a dick for all I care but it looks nice.
>It's such an empty game
>probably the worst 3D zelda
>>TP is by no means a bad game
Why is commentary like this always followed up with this unfounded insight?
TP is, by every means, an atrocious video game, and LoZ has been in the bargain bin of Action-Adventure for the bulk of the 21st century.
They can't design action.
They can't design puzzles.
They can't design levels that have anything other than action or puzzles.
They can't create or write a new adventure.
IT'S NOT A BAD GAME THOUGH.
Apologist fucker, this shitty franchise will never dig itself out of the grave if you keep less-than-vehemently giving it a free pass for every lackluster iteration it slowly secretes out of its creatively bankrupt pores.
Because 90% of devs can't make a game as polished as a 3D Zelda.
WW gets hate because it was when nintendr?nes had to own up to the reality that nintendo games are primarily marketed towards children and not teens. Sony exploited this by selling them Shadow of the Colossus three years later.
TP gets hate because not only is it a boring game, but the graphics are shitpoor (brown, blurry, just ugly) and the character design worse than modern Final Fantasy. Nintendo butchered the art simply because they decided to follow the brown n' bloom trend at the time.
For what it's worth Skyward Sword has FAR better art direction than TP, but SS also suffered from the same problems and didn't have much to explore despite being set in the sky. This led to BOTW which is pretty much the opposite of SS, for better or worse.
Can you name some better all-encompassing action-adventure games?
These days, WW gets hate because it's an unfinished game.
True but TP's problems can't be understood without first understanding WW's.
Oblivion and Skyrim, more or less. That's what normies moved onto because it provided everything LoZ did but with a far larger scope. 2006 was the breaking point because of Oblivion's 360 release, exposing Bethesda to the mass market. WoW arguably fits into this category as well, since it peaked during this time (2006-10) and had a similar fantasy setting. Fable and Asscreed as well, since both do essentially what LoZ does but with a different approach and focus on different things.
Who are the 10%?
What does polish have to do with anything? "Adventure" was polished, why bother playing anything else?
You'll have to define this new mythical "All-Encompassing" subgenre first, and even then that has very little relevance.
Just say you prefer large quantities of shit in place of focus and quality, rather than deflect.
Your argument is presumably that LoZ is greater than the sum of its otherwise horribly designed parts, all of which are present in [OTHER GAME], to which I can only respond with:
To each his own. Keep shoveling that shitheap, I guess, it'll only get bigger. Literally, in fact. Thank Christ Hyrule is now the size of my left nut after a week of nofap, now I can waste 300% more time on an "experience" even worse than the previous outing.
Because it's not, it's just pretty empty for a Zelda game
The third water temple, Arbiter's Ground and the mansion were great dungeons. I also like Temple of Time, but I usually get hate for that.
I was born in 1999 and I love both, with TP being my first real videogame that I finished.
This age shit is stupid, it’s not like every person born in the same year has the same tastes
You're being a contrarian faggot because you see all the memes made are "omg my childhood!! this game was not rated E!!!" and yeah they're fucking annoying after a while, but they're a thing for a reason.
Stop being a whiny little bitch and burying your head in the dirt saying "no its light hearted lol"
The child part was mostly light hearted. When you became an adult the overall tone of the game got a lot more sinister.
And yet botw defenders claim that simply having physics makes that game a masterpiece.
Tell me ONE thing wrong with TP that doesn't have to do with the Wii version being kind of weird.
I think it has too much unnecessary dialogue and a slow start. Wolf tear parts are meh. Ending seems rushed because Ganon came out of nowhere.
>Spirit Tracks in the A tier
Despite being bland it has the best boss designs in the franchise if that counts.
And Dual Clawshots
>the boss in the Sky Temple
That fight was fucking kino.
so I'm getting you never played a zelda game
thanks for the input
Wii U version is pretty good.
It's like an infinitely better version of Morpheel.
Seriously TP had some fun boss fights
Its actually probably my favorite zelda next to MM, honestly
I agree with you EXCEPT it was after the 4th book, goblet of fire, or rather that was a transition period of irredeemable garbage mixed in with cool shit
most normal fagggots never read any books
>no mention of the 50 floor dungeon in this thread
how did you guys miss the best part of the game?
You’re completely right now stop bullying me
>finding the mailman huddling in a corner halfway down, complaining about his mail having gotten wet
That legitimately made me power through the entire thing. Thanks, Mailman.
>wolf shit
>none of wind waker's charm
>grimdark zelda? really?
>OoT clone
I still believe SS gets more hate, though
It sucks ass.
Was there actually a need for this thread? This already has been beaten to death by both parties.
>9
the intro section is a little too long and tedious for replaying the game
hyrule field being sectioned off is kind gay
spinning top and giant ball+chain is weird items
bizarre sky temple / sky town temple with the cucco things has shitty music and bizarre design
game is still pretty good though.
It has easily the best dungeon design of any game in the series.
>giant ball+chain
If you hold this item, it's heavy enough to bypass the vents in Sky Temple while not being as slow as the Iron Boots.
I always thought that was a neat detail.
>Sony exploited this by selling them Shadow of the Colossus three years later.
based okami poster
its a better game than BOTW with much more to do, so, it's natural to like it more.
>DS Zeldas not at the bottom
Reconsider your life.
Never heard of anyone really disliking it, but I've heard many people say that it just feels like a bit f a bland retread of Ocarina and that the wold sections are tacked on.
OoT fags are mad because it's a better version of their game
MM fags are mad because it's another ''dark'' Zelda
The game was considered very good at the time of its release, so naturally contrarian Yea Forums dislikes it.
>You'll have to define this new mythical "All-Encompassing" subgenre first
I was asking for something that's directly comparable to what Zelda does, and used "all-encompassing" to avoid the inevitable -insert completely different game here- bullshit response I anticipated. Instead you couldn't cough up anything. Good for you, dullard-chan.
twilight princess is boring soulless overrated shit
worst zelda
It was overhyped. Everyone was expecting the second coming of Jesus because it was the "real" Zelda they were supposed to get instead of WW. That's the reason why 8.8 got so much backlash when that review came out. People couldn't believe that this game they had waited for for so long could be anything less than perfect. So they went in with that absurd expectation and inevitably came out disappointed. The truth is it gave them everything they had asked for, a proper followup to OoT with the same formula, a bigger world, and more things to do, but because it wasn't revolutionary or impressive beyond that it was panned and not remembered fondly. However after SS came out which was even more divisive people stopped judging it as harshly.
Never understood people saying it's too easy, since every 3D Zelda is trvial anyway. This one at least has probably the strongest dungeon design in the series for me. Nicest overworld. Great music, though it good have done with full orchestration. I love it
*could have done
Pros
>combat mechanics are of the best in the series
>midna is one of the best zelda characters ever made and is the best sidekick to date (Even excluding her porn)
>has one of the best link incarnations
>has one of the better stories of the series with a decent OC villain that isn't ganon (At first)
>dungeons -gameplay wise- are phenomenal
>first zelda that had modern graphics with an open world
Cons
>Mastered the classic gameplay style at the cost of no originality bar the expected graphic overhaul and motion control gimmick
>game came primarily on the Wii, and the Wii controls were agreed to be an inconsistent gimmick for kiddies that really tarnished the game's image in a bad way. Shame, because I don't think they were that bad for TP, specifically
>horrible zelda incarnation
>cool gannon incarnation but felt tacked on regardless
>a little tedious and boring at times, especially the beginning (They were trying to show off their pretty gimmicks and make the game easier for a casual playerbase -Kiddies that bought the Wii- that couldn't handle a dungeon in the first 10 minutes like OoT)
>"modern" graphics (Generic) with an "open" world (Empty, bar some cool traveling gimmicks)
>OST was also a bit generic and forgettable, especially after the catchy era of the OoT and MM that people were used to
Now that I think about it, they probably should have just not added Zelda or Gannon to the game and kept the story about Link, Midna, and Zant. If they did that, got rid of the motion controls, and overhauled the graphics with something that wasn't generic and washed out (I get the feel they were going for, but they could have done the same without the washed out aesthetic) Twilight Princess would have been one of the best Zelda games ever instead of the forgettable "meh" game most know it as.
Fantastic game and probably the last good Zelda we'll get for a long time
part of it is because its zoomers first zelda. Another part is that its over world is barren from aside moblins. It takes it self too seriously and the color scheme of things is dull and boring. Thats my opinion anyways.
twilight princess is my favorite zelda game
i really dont care what others think of it
It’s just windwaker fags
Nice.
i mean when wind waker came out, yes

it's soulless. the game is the definition of "devs being on autopilot mode during development"
This, it’s also just tedious in general
Okay, where's the audio recording of this
You deserve all the happiness you earn
I actually think it has the best OST. I love the more minimalist ambient of the dungeons, there’s actually a lot of atmosphere in it. I love how imposing Lakebed sounds and how epic City in the Sky sounds despite just being a very simple synth loop.
To me this game really captures an enchanting Zelda feel. Yeah the art style does look like LotR but this is helpful for making it feel more like classic fantasy. Aside from the character models I actually really love how the game looks
There were also the wagglan controls in the original version.
>books
WIZARDS USED TO SHIT THEIR PANTS AND MAGIC IT AWAY
HERMOINE IS BLACK
minigames were great too, and the world was pretty well made
is zelda sniffing midna's butt/feet ?
This game did a good job of having parts that just felt really badass. It was so cool using the double claw shot
When do we get to see Midna again god fucking damnit
