Pictures like , you don't even need that much armor for the regular footsoldier, and just make two dozen hero suits of armor for the main characters and villains, and CGI the rest. It should not cost prohibitory amounts even for a hundred suits of armor for a TV show of this caliber, and even then good designs can help you cut further corners.
I don't buy the expense argument. Maybe if it were Hollywood accounting, but it should be far from the reason why.

Like most people, artists cannot make a living without getting paid. So wherever there's money, there's artists. Now, in regards to the quality of the artist, it really depends on how much money is available. In countries with massive government art subsidies like Germany and Canada there is a lot of free money for the taking and doesn't discriminate by quality; therefore the art coming out of those countries is dogshit.

In the United States there are much less subsidies and art is subject to the free market. So for the most part art has to be good or make money or it doesn't get made; either or both are necessary.

The thing about Netflix is that they're throwing money everywhere. They're basically throwing money at anything that vaguely can make money with a less stringent standard than what would need to pass muster in Hollywood. This in effect makes a artist welfare system much like in Canada, which is why Netflix shows are such fucking garbage for the most part. Netflix is basically subsidizing dogshit and buying up as many property rights in the process.
