What made the gameplay so great was not only how fun and unique it was but also for it how contributed to the game’s overall message and themes. Neku can’t just rely on himself if he wants to make it through the game and, by extension, life: he has to actually reach out and let others in. Unfortunately, this is lost in translation in ports due to having to fit the game on just one screen.

I like the vibes of the art style, setting etc but I looked at gameplay and it looks like pure modern day mobile souless trash. Should I try it? The gameplay looked worse than the KH mobile game and the ingame assets looked just as ugly but I can't help but like the idea of liking the game.

Game is insanely customizable and fun. And it gives you quite lot of ways to up the challenge.

Gameplay in TWEWYBtakes place on two screens. On the bottom screen, you’ll be playing Neku, who you can control with the stylus. His gameplay revolves around using pins, which each have a psychic ability within them, which you’ll activate by using specific stylus motions. Each pin has their own unique ability, ranging from shit like pyrokinesis to lightning bolts, telekinesis to mind bullets, teleportation, short ranged energy blades, and more. On the top screen, you control his partner to attack by using the D-Pad or face buttons. The two of them share a life bar so you have to be careful since you’ll be fighting on both screens at once. That said, the game gives you a variety of options to work around this such as multiple difficulty options and the option to put your partner on auto until you git gud.

Combine that with him spouting off some numbers and Joshua’s silent reaction and you realize that the game was actually foreshadowing this all along.

Joshua is only the Composer of Shibuya. It’s actually heavily implied that there are many UG’s throughout the world and each of them has their own rules and set of regulations. Joshua just rules over one of them so you can think of him as a sort of demigod instead of a full-on God.

I hope if this game is going to do a """sequel""" it just does another game in a radically different Japanese setting. It won't, because if it does get a sequel it'll be pretty by the numbers, but it would be nice.

It would also be a good way to explain the change in game mechanics since each area in the UG has their own set of unique rules but, unfortunately, Square is too dumb to realize this.

He’s basically a look at what a grown up Neku would be like if he hadn’t learned his lessons in the Game.

Not to mention about that what happens If you answer his question of “do you like people” with a yes, where he’ll say something along the lines of how he can’t fathom why Neku would.
There’s also his convo with Neku before that particular moment as well.
>”Didn’t you feel it in Shibuya? Rage. Hate. Misery. Envy. Fear. Self-deprecation. A cacophony of countless selfish wants. As that noise swells, it turns into crime, warfare... All the world’s ills can be traced to individuality!”
Combine that with his plan to essentially turn everyone into brainwashed zombies and you have a pretty good picture of who Kitaniji is: someone who loves the city of Shibuya but doesn’t necessarily love the people that reside within it.
And there’s also the fact that he wears headphones just like Neku, and considering how much the game emphasizes on him wearing those in an attempt to shut people out, it makes him a pretty good foil to Neku as a character.

I always wondered why Joshua was willing to fuse with the guy while also giving Neku some of his power as well during the final boss fight.

I always looked at it as Joshua giving both parties a chance to ultimately prove their ideals and to decide the final choice for Shibuya. Kitaniji gets to become a six-headed dragon that can shoot fireballs and exploding energy swords and shit while Neku has to rely on the relationships he’s formed to even stand a fighting chance and prove that even someone like him can truly learn to change.

Ah, that. I've had the same issue with tye game a few times in the past, including when I started playing it off of my 3DS's SD card. There's a solution for that. It's also one of the dumbest solutions I've ever found, but it works. For the opening cutscene, repeatedly fully open and close your DS screens. Do this for the entire cutscene just to be safe, this is the only time I can recall having this issue with the game.

I never yelled into the mic ever lol I'd just tap the mic with the stylus, it felt pretty natural and worked pretty well without damaging my DS or anything.

It's a genuinely great game with a ton of love and effort clearly put into it. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who, at the very least, doesn't respect TWEWY for how innovative and cohesive it was.

Daily reminder that Beat had to, in order:
>deal with being the unfavorite in his family compared to his sister
>die in an attempt to save said sister in a car accident (and winds up getting her killed as well)
>watch his little sister die again with her sacrificing herself to save him from a Noise shark
>join up with the Reapers in an attempt to restore Rhyme back to normal only to get told that he has to kill Neku in order to prove his loyalty to the Reapers
>be unable to kill Neku anyway due to him showing kindness towards Beat and giving him Rhyme’s pendant
>gets told that he’ll die in five days due to not accumulating points in his time as a Reaper and almost fades away from existence on the last day
>has to watch Rhyme die AGAIN but this time in her Noise form and is forced into a wild goose chase in order to get her back from Konishi
>gets trapped in the place that he and Rhyme died in and is constantly reminded of his fuck-ups
>is forced to deal with the possible revelation that due to Rhyme not winning the game in the first place, she’ll lose her Entry Fee forever and subsequently be unable to ever remember him
>gets an emotional kick to the balls from Konishi with her revealing that Rhyme’s memories was HIS Entry Fee and that hers was something else, flat out implying that she never loved him and mindfucking with him
>gets shat on by everyone
And as of New Day

>has to watch Neku die AGAIN and be unable to do shit about it

Wasn't that Beat's entry fee? His relationship with Rhyme was by far the most important thing in his life. I'm pretty sure Rhyme's fee was her dreams for the future or something along those lines, I'll have go find the dialogues about it.

That’s why I included the “Konishi emotionally kicking him in the balls with the revelation of what Beat’s Entry Fee really was” in there. Beat had a hard life.

What is this game is it fun? What platforms is it on?

It's on the Switch and Nintendo DS. A boxed copy is like 20 burger bucks on eBay. Don't buy the Switch or Android version if you want to enjoy the game.

Never understood the appeal of this game, it felt like a facebook minigame and the story was your usual shonen stuff. Didn't help I just got out of the "I'm 14 and I like hip hop" phase at the time.

The World Ends With You. You play as Neku, an anti-social 15 year old boy who finds himself trapped in Shibuya playing the Reaper's Game, a game where people who have died must partner up with others and fight for a second chance at life against the Noise, monsters made from the negative emotions of human beings, and the Reapers who control them. During the game, Neku must learn to reevaluate his anti social behavior, communicate with others, and learn what it means to be a part of the world. The game is great and has a ton of things going for it, such as likeable and developed characters, a heartfelt and complex plot, incredibly unique and fun gameplay that take full advantage of the Nintendo DS’ hardware, and a great aesthetic and soundtrack as well. The original was on the DS, with mobile and Switch ports accompanying it, though I highly recommend the DS version for the authentic experience.

Didn't like Radiata Story (boring as hell and bad battle system), Endless space (stupid broken battle system), Moon (NDS is bad for FPS, story if nah...), Kingdom Hearts (backtracking as hell, 8 missions to know, that the Beast hiding someone in his castle), Mario & Luigi: BIS (the game and pixelart are good, but something is missing...), Dragon Quest 9 (too many grind, droped at the petrified village), Chrono Trigger (was not bad in the beginning, beautiful pixelart, but at the Antiquity era lost interest)
