Vergil was still able to get worn out enough to get beaten by Nero who is still behind in the power development. I mean he's about 25 and is just now getting his DT, Dante was about 20 and Vergil supposedly DT'd as a child. We don't know how powerful Mundus is right now. Yeah he's been sealed away but he could still find a way to get stronger. Or he could have a stronger Son, or just resurrected with a new body.

The shriveled husk of Mundus will be after the Book of V to use the forbidden knowledge within to restore himself to full power. The words within the book possess such power that they can shape the demon realm and Earth itself to the bearer's will. Nero will be in a desperate race to unlock the contents of the book before Mundus can.

I liked the crazy cutscenes in 3 but i don't like how Sparda bros are super powerful and can defeat everything without struggling, except for some moments after which they just become even more powerful. It's fine to go crazy on mooks and trash talk bosses but having to justify a demon as being a king of hell for Dante to have trouble with is gonna catch up to you fast. Just have Dante being strong with some demons being strong too. Sure, some people would find weird how you dialed MCs down/dialed demons up but you do it good and people really mind after a small backlash and suddenly you can actually raise the stakes without having to come up with another king of hell or something. Like the throwback to 3's Cerberus with puppy walk shit is fine but he looked like a pretty powerful demon, being what he was guarding and all. At least have him unleash a barrage of fire, ice and lightning with Dante dodging and saying something akin to him being a real deal.

This is what I want from the co-op Dante and Vergil DLC.

Doublethink yourself into believing both. That way you won't be disappointed when there's nothing yet you can still act smug and say "i told you so" when there is something.

For a Switch port to happen they'd have to do what they did for RE7 and rely on streaming the game rather than running it on the hardware.
The problem then is that streaming has fucking abysmal input lag which might not be too bad for a slower game like RE7 but it'd absolutely kill DMC5

Dante (and by extension Vergil) are still way beyond Mundus at this point though.
Argosax was explicitly of equal power to Mundus but by DMC2 Dante was so far above that that he never even bothered to remember Argosax's name.
DMC5 Dante is leagues above Mundus in power, unless an asspull or retcon were to happen.

This isn't to say that Mundus can't still be an antagonist, however. A big part of Mundus' character in DMC1 is that he sat back and tried to let his minions do his dirty work for him while staying obfuscated and away from where Dante could reach him.
Along these lines, you can still have a compelling and interesting antagonist despite them being markedly weaker than the protagonists. For all it's worth, DMC2 also somewhat did this, with Arius being just a weakass human that runs away and has summons do his fighting.
As powerful as the Sparda sperms are, they are not omnipresent. When an enemy is not directly in front of them they have to find a way to reach them, which can make a compelling story in its own right.

3Moondust was weakened due to spending his power breaking through the seal, but 1Moondust is full power after recovering for 9 years straight.

To go off on a slight tangent about what being "king" of the Underworld entails however, I'd say that it seems pretty clear that it's a Might = Right kind of place, and Mundus reigned both by being powerful as an individual but also powerful as a military leader figure. Sparda might have been more powerful as an individual, but weaker as a leader figure if you get me. Mundus' unique title of Demon Emperor rather than just Demon King also leads me to believe he somewhat unified the different areas of the Underworld (Fire Hell, whatever other "sections" of Hell, etc.) but that's going into headcanon shit and probably looking deeper than was ever intended.
All this to say that just eating the Qliphoth's fruit isn't enough to crown you as King of the Underworld, but that the sheer power that the fruit gains to whoever eats it is enough for them to overpower and subjugate the Underworld into following their rule.

Vergil Battle 2 is just one of those boss themes that always gets me pumped without fail for years, there's only a handful of other boss themes in vidya that do that.

Mundus isn't that interesting of a threat. He's already been wrecked by Sparda and wrecked by Dante. The whole point of DMC1 on that front was Dante stepping up to the plate and living up to his father's legacy. Mundus wouldn't be a threat to Dante anymore, let alone Dante, Vergil, and Nero. They've written themselves into a bit of a corner. The only way around it is to invoke yet another "SUPER ANCIENT EVIL" or to incorporate another dimension that isn't the demon world that has its own threats.

My actual guess is that they'll just do Mundus again but Mundus will have his own powerful children. Boring, yes, but likely.

I think you guys over estimate how much Capcom is will to do for DMC. Resident Evil has multiple dev teams to keep churning out games. DMC only has one, and games take a lot longer to produce these days. You're looking at almost a decade of development before DMC6 is released if we're going to start getting spin offs and remakes.

5Vergil's haircut is more in line with his CG renders (barring that one) from DMC3 but with added waviness.
Some angles make it look poofier than it really is but as someone with extremely stubborn hair I can attest that slicked hair resting like that is not unnatural.

In Kamiya's canon Vergil was kidnapped by Mundus as a child and raised into Gilver, which contradicts Itsuno's canon as established by DMC3, so when the novel mentioned something about Mundus experimenting with battle data from Sparda, Vergil and Dante, they thought it meant he created Gilver as a clone of Vergil.

And by "they" I mean some of the fans, I really need to proofread what I write.

Well that's a different thing entirely and if we were to look at them both, 5V's hair objectively moves more than 3V's hair, but then I guess you could chalk that up to graphical capabilities of the time.

It's not meant to be literally just DMC3 Vergil again. Being entirely accurate to his DMC3 hairstyle is irrelevant when no other part of his design is beyond general concepts. An actual case of them trying to replicate DMC3 style and fucking up would be 4SE Vergil, which I hope we can all agree is the worst, regardless of opinion on 5Vergil,

The novel doesn't specifically mention Gilver, but he contradicts the current canon set by DMC3. The entire battle data chapter was a way a fixing that contradiction. It was intended to imply that Gilver was a clone. They were trying to de-retcon the DMC1 novel.

Sure, but it still looked better and was a more natural looking character design. It's why I originally mentioned DMC4's renders being bad. I don't think DMC5 was necessarily going for DMC3 explicitly, but it's certainly an extension of the various CG renders that decided he had spiky Saiyan hair for some reason instead of longer hair combed back. Even renders that are supposedly depicting DMC3 Vergil get this wrong. I've always found it weird.

It was "chunkier" because it was loosely combed back; it wasn't pointing straight up or out. The fact it manages to stay in place doing what he does by merely running his fingers through it is bizarre, but maybe if I weren't such shcum or never washed my hands I'd be able to do it too.
