why do americans obsess over corporations?
This actually does seem like an indirect response to Sweeney Game Store.
Link to post? I love these valve blogs. They're always fun to read for some reason. You can tell whoever writes them liked doing it and it's not some corporate drone pr machine
Rent free
With them shooting themselves just fine seems like pointless but still nice gesture
They should do this but for every month as it passes instead of making it at the end of the year. store.steampowered.com
why do europeans even bother posting on Yea Forums when half of their posts are just retarded crying about americans lmao
your games suck, your movies suck, your television sucks, your politics suck, can't we just make a /mlp/ containment board for you virgins already.
Why do you foreigners always put people in boxes, I'd never say all you Euros love playing playstation while Mohammad is in the other room with your wife

Here is that Financial report

There is nothing in it that would say it did bad on egs.
I also watched their Q&A, nothing that twitter retard said was true. Not counting the part about majority revenue from conoles which they had to explain
is there any chance that this will make curationfags shut up for a moment?

>random twitter guy talking about some comments some other guy didn't make
Why are people so attached to fucking Steam? Terrible customer service, they fought their hardest to not let people return and they tried to take away fucking modding not long ago.
And here's the video of the earnings presentation he is referring to.
What was said in the tweet is literally the first thing said in the Q&A part.
Why didn't he say that to begin with in the investor report, then? Why did he instead give a bunch of halfhearted nonanswers at first? And are only now saying this after the internet has mocked them for it?
Could it be... he's trying to save face with investors?
Yet still better then the EGS in every way.
>comments some other guy didn't make
It's basically word for word what was said you nigger.
Watch it yourself.
>I also watched their Q&A,
The entire Q&A, or were you one of those dummies who saw the first question on the Epic Store answered and assumed that was it?
Epic gave them a reason to. Epic was vastly unaware of the PC market i think. They tried to brute force their way in, which rallied over customers to steam’s side. Not arguing in favor of either, i just think that the move was overall more beneficial to steam, barring all the exclusives epic got. It definitely increased brand loyalty for steam.
>inb4 steamdrones are such cucks
You can say that, but then youd probably push more people to steam.
Good idea.
I find some small games listed interesting.
>Driftland: The Magic Revival
>Weedcraft Inc, - Dude Weed Lmao while building the weed empire
>MarZ: Tactical Base Defense
I hope they will do it on a monthly basis.
You might need to consult an ophthalmologist
I see it more as an inevitable reaction. It didn't increase brand loyalty to Steam, it just lifted the covers on the brand loyalty that was already there. For every person that bitches about EGS on social media more people learn about the store from them and download a free game. They are running sales now too. It won't be long until every worthwhile feature on Steam is part of the Epic store and the hate fades away similar to when Steam itself was first introduced as glorified DRM.
what the fuck that dog actually looks like sweeney
Only the most obsessed are willing to extend their watch.
>No sales numbers

:^):^)
I think it definitely increased brand loyalty to Steam with how Epic has been directly targeting Steam. I've never had a problem with other launchers like Bnet, Uplay, and Origin existing along side, but epic is deliberately being evil trying to kill another company and I do not like that.
The shills are out in full force.
How much did his epicanthal eye surgery cost?
>deliberately being evil trying to kill another company and I do not like that.
Every company in existence tries to "kill" competitors aka steal customers and it isn't evil.
The devil you know. At least with Steam we know things are going to stay relatively the same. With Epic and their Fortnite money power trip, it could be much worse.

>steam still the better service despite years of monopoly
explain how epic buying 1 year of exclusivity is good for me, the consumer.
>hundreds of people pre order your games and you have to compensate the publishers
Well, it was basically the whole point of this sale you retard. Lower game price from your own pocket so people can get games for less. Once epic did something truly good and then publishers had to rape it. Does not matter for me, I got B3 cheaper at least
dumb amerimutt thinks his movies and tv and politics made by pure americans, 99% of them are immigrants and jews

This is to maintain loyalty among indie devs, showing them the prospects they have for kissing the Steam ring. What better way to refute the 88 percent cut on the bargain bin fortnite store than pure money from the free market?
Competition leads to innovation, and you can't compete against steam with features. Not at the beginning at least, this is not how this shit works. Valve was doing nothing for years, not counting burning their money on shitty hardware
that's not the point
the point is that Epic is so retarded that they started a sale without the publishers acknowledgement
>Working on getting linux more into the mainstream as an alternative to windows and mac
>literally worked on getting all major controllers compatible with vidya on PC
What else am I missing that Valve "was doing nothing for years" on?
The amount of money going to game developers increases because Epic acts like one large consumer increasing the viable production values, number of developers and games that can exist.
How are developers getting more money good for the consumer?
Epics main avenue of competition right now is on the developers too.
Game stores have two customers: game makers and game buyers. Epic is concentrating on attracting developers with exclusivity deals and by offering a larger cut of the pie. They, correctly in my opinion, judge the games as the most important thing to game buyers. If a game is great they will buy it wherever they can.
It's good for the customer becau-youtube.com

>Competition leads to innovation
a)you didn't refute the fact that steam still has the best store despite years of monopoly
b) Epic has done NOTHING. NOTHING at all. It has zero features, it has not inovated in any way whatsoever, and is objectively the worst store of them all. Even ubisoft or EA store are better.
>valve was doing nothing
their controller support is incredible. If you actually played games, you'd know about how you can configure DMC 5 to use both keyboard and controller at the same time so you can have incredibly customizable controls. For example, you can set it up so you don't have to keep holding the pistol button non-stop as nero, or you can style switch+style button on the same place.
Google translate couldn't do Fortnite so I had it do Fortnight instead
Are you retarded?
>Developers make more money
>Developers can spend more on later games
>Later games are better
I miss the time when HL2 came out and there was an outrage about how it required Steam. People didn't even know what to think of an online storefront back then, much less one that also doubles as a DRM. I imagine Steam these days being more tolerated and viewed (admittedly by idiots) as 'a friend' is a product of it being the first of its kind to make any impact and staying alive for so long. Also, like the other anons said, Epic coming along to antagonize Steam pushed people to take sides.

Consumers have $x dollars they are willing to spend on games. This money will only support a certain number of developers and them developing certain types of games a specific costs. Epic comes in acting a giant consumer increase x. Now additional developers can be kept afloat and existing developers have the opportunity to spend more money in development. The consumer has more choice, the niche consumer in particular.
You mean the very same thing that led to Inquisition and Andromeda?
>get more money
>STILL add cash shop
Right, every game developer wants to have to make sure their game's distribution service doesn't slash it's price without telling them
Conversion to bugman is free in glorious China.
There's a simple reason Steam carved out an empire where only dust existed before. They bent over backwards and rat-fucked an entire industry to pass down savings, sales and service to their customers. They put developers over a barrel on a 30% cut so that I can buy all the games I want in sales for a fraction of the price.
Epic, Ubisoft and the rest seem to be trying to bend customers over a barrel so that developers can profit by it, and they can fuck right off. The market will exist to serve my needs, not the other way around, and fuck developers. When their companies die off, it'll make room for new talent with actual vision. Plenty of people with an idea and much lower overhead (E.G. Stardew) will pop up to pick up the slack. Businesses are not your friend, they only exist to provide a product.
>Developers can spend
>can spend
>can
Okay so it means literally nothing for the consumer?
How does a developer being kept afloat benefit me the consumer?
>The consumer has more choice
More choice of what? Spending more money? how does this benefit me? More choice of being forced into a single platform? How does this benefit me?
>put developers over a barrel on a 30% cut
Can we stop pretending 30% is the end of days when prior to Steam developers made 10%?
>steamcommunity.com
>supraworld
Based, such a good game that you don't see much talk about
Don't remind me of black Dubya but worse, I almost voted for that Chicago egg incubated by the terrorist Bill Ayers.
>They put developers over a barrel on a 30% cut so that I can buy all the games I want in sales for a fraction of the price.
This part doesn't make any sense. The 30% cut has literally nothing to do with cheaper prices. It was the number they used because it was industry standard for brick and mortar stores.
Steam was pretty shit at first and having a online laucher when we still had games on discs with cd-keys but coming into 2019 with a online store with it's only real feature benefits developers only and it being "I-It's like Steam but worse!" isn't going to win anyone over. Especially with all this bullshit about how Epic is going to take down Steam when several dozen launchers and digital storefronts exist that can't put a dent in it for years.
Because all you need for people to engage in tribalism is another tribe. Sorting people into "us" and "them" is something our brains just do.
>They bent over backwards and rat-fucked an entire industry to pass down savings, sales and service to their customers. They put developers over a barrel on a 30% cut
Wut? Steam gave devs a better deal than physical at the time.
Gamedev here, unless they stop taking %30, they can go to hell for all I care.
GoG looks like a decent alternative now.
>monopoly
10 other launchers around doing the same
kys and never post again
>and digital storefronts exist that can't put a dent in it for years
>tfw fucking Mass Effect Inquisition and Dragon Age Andromeda were supposed to be their secret weapons against Steam
Is Titanfall and The Sims the only reason to ever use Origin?
That's not what I'm getting at. They're following the Amazon business model - to control a market, they're providing every service to customers, sometimes at a loss, to corner out all other competition. They provide guaranteed refunds within a certain time period, the constant sales, and a fairly robust system of customer service - other than Steam Workshop and Steam Forums to help with modding and troubleshooting, they also allow you to download modding tools and devkits right through Steam, and provide tech support for games that don't even belong to Valve just because they're hosted on its service.
All of this put together basically means that they're more concerned with controlling a market than making a profit on every single sale. Whomever runs Steam's business division has a mind for the long game, knowing that you can easily corner out the competition by taking a cut on profits to provide a better service in every way, even if, once in awhile, you have to take losses to provide it.
I see no such effort from any of the other services. They're just trying to make a profit, which isn't really aligned with my interests, as a private citizen who wants to both indulge in consumption and keep as much of my hard-earned money as I can while doing it. As I said before, companies are not my friends. They're trying to sell me a product, and there's a sliding scale between satisfaction and price.
Crossplay. Eat it bitch
Gameconsumer here, you might as well go to Epic and then cry about your shitty game not selling.
Link us your game on GoG.

Are you retarded or something?
>>steamcucks defending a store that isn't pro-consumer
>EGS only real selling point is buying out exclusive deals so nobody can buy the game but through them and giving more money to the developer that doesn't help the consumer at all
No u
On one hand more competition is good for consumers, but on the other hand fracturing the access to new games across a dozen platforms isn't.
Think about search engines. Maybe one or two of you are old enough to remember back when you had to search for the same thing on Yahoo, ask, altavista and more to get an exhaustive amount of search results.
That is not pro-consumer.
One thing I guess Steam could do is split up their launcher/library and their storefront, which would let other companies with their own storefronts to still let the consumer access their games without having 5 different launchers open.
Though there's no way Steam would do that since it wouldn't benefit them in any way.
Steam isn't pro-consumer.

said who? Your daily news blogger?
is the twitter post of sweeney saying that the 12% cut isn't viable still up?
The DRM is a pain, I'll give you that.
Competition isn't any better for consumers than a single provider if it doesn't actually provide us a better product, more variety, or a better price.
I don't know if you've noticed, but the video game industry is stagnating pretty hard. There's plenty of small indie stuff to go around with a one or two man dev team, like FTL, Super Meat Boy or Risk of Rain, but the AAA market is pretty much completely dominated by the same people who dominated it 20 years ago. Moreover, those same people are still making the same fucking games, over and over. We're on Final Fantasy 16, for fucks sake, and are about to see the 16th iteration of Call of Duty pretty soon here, too. The prices haven't been driven down by competition either - not only has the industry collaborated to keep the price from falling below that 60$ price tag we had in 1990, but since then we've been sold less and less game for that price, and more and more content as DLC or in Microtransactions.
TL;DR It should be allowed to die. Video games aren't going anywhere - the death of the power players will simply allow new people to take over the market for much less investment than they would have to put in to fight established names like EA, Nintendo and Sony were they still operating in the market.
>Refusing to refund game for years
>Multiple lawsuit for anti-consumer practices
>B-but they have forums and reviews! Bend over and prepare your anus for Gaben pro-consumer dick
>Steam is anti consumer because they used to not refund games!
Nice arguments Chang.
The DRM is usually incorporated because Game Developers took a deal, not because Steam wanted Denuvo in Shitflinging Shootout.
Game Devs should stop selling out or pay more money in for us to put up with their bullshit.
They wouldn't hesitate to brag about sales if the sales were good. But we all know their sales failed because no comment. Top tippity kek.
14% to epic 88% to devs is the only fair practice for this industry
Cope harder nigger
Hmm, weird, Steam was the one that popularized refunds for digital products here in the US.
Hell, on consoles you flat out CAN'T get a refund for digital purchases here unless you literally bought them and never even downloaded them.
Who made you the authority to decide what is fair?
The fact that Steam allows games with DRM on their platform is why they aren't pro-consumer. Both the Devs/Publishers/Steam are at fault here.
>steam is just the best
maybe it was at one point but just fucking look at it now
30% to Steam 70% to Devs is the only fair practice in this industry. You'll take your 70% and like it, fuckface, and if I want to return it, you'll give me my money back.
hitler told it to me in a dream
>Steam requires devs to add warnings to the store page to inform consumers what DRM they're buying
>Epic, Origin, and Uplay don't
Wow, fuck Valve am I right my fellow ch- I mean Americans?
this is a nice way to go bankrupt, it's 12% btw
You are so wrong. Steam is making an insane profit and are not following Amazon's model in the slightest.
>they're providing every service to customers
Theyshift every service to the community
>sometimes at a loss
Nope. They don't take a loss on anything. In fact they use the 30% excuse by saying third world poor countries have high transaction fees while doing the vast majority of their business in countries will very small transaction fees ensuring they make money on every transaction, tons on most.
>They provide guaranteed refunds within a certain time period
They were literally forced to do this.
>the constant sales
Doesn't cut into their profit margin. They still take their percentage and customers buying 6 games from 6 devs at 10 bucks makes them the same amount as 1 game from 1 dev for 60 bucks
>a fairly robust system of customer service
This is a lie, it is terrible. They are a billion dollar company with no dedicated customer support.
>other than Steam Workshop and Steam allow you to download mods and devkits right through Steam
You mean make money through trying to sell mods. Remember the shitstorm?
>Provide tech support for games that don't even belong to Valve just because they're hosted on its service
What tech support? They have no dedicated customer service and they should be providing service on products they make money selling.
Ignoring the fact that Steam isn’t even close to a monopoly, is there anything wrong with a privately owned monopoly?
Like a benign dictatorship, it isn’t entirely reasonable in practice, but in purely theoretical terms it is the best option for the consumer. There is no wasted effort in attempting to compete. The only danger is stagnation, which Steam certainly hasn’t been doing (although Valve game development certainly has).
Since this is a shitpost thread I'm going to vent my frustrations with Rocket League
>Play Rumble
>Get to Champion
>Get one guy literally 3 games in a row on my team
>Just sits half the field away from the ball, reverses and does backflips if it gets close

>Can only hope to control the ball if he has a power up
>Of course we lose all 3 games because shitter doing backflips and never learned how to actually play misses all his "Goalie" shots
>When I call him out he says he's "rotating"
>People making a play on the ball is "Ball chasing" despite in 3v3s we're trying to ali oop it because trying to 1v3 for a goal is beyond retarded
>Then he drops his conclusive evidence he's better than me
>"I have 10k games"
>He's played 10000 matches and never learned how to actually play the game
>Just grubbed Rumble power ups and sat in the goal, missing saves, getting occasional power up goals so he doesn't realize he actually hasn't improved.
Still the best.
>wahh I don't know hot to use filters and need E3 to spoon feed me popular releases otherwise I don't know what to buy!
Actual fucking waste of life, swallow a knife nigger.
Can't argue against that reasoning.
>amazon's model
Amazon's model is to literally undercut everything, push competition out of business, and become a monopoly. You're right, Steam is not following their model in the slightest.
The only reason we have refund on steam is literally because they were forced to offer them by law. Even fucking EA did refunds years before without years long lawsuits
Everyone knows Epic, Origin, and Uplay are shit. There are a vast amount of steamcucks who will defend steam even though steam doesn't give a fuck about them.
And? What is your argument?
>2 year old image
>before all the asset flipper purges and greenlight burying

>Sits in the goal
>"I'm rotating"
These people are the absolute worst and I wish I could slit their throat in the night
>Steam
>Allows Games
For the love of...
Steam is running a marketplace in addition to selling some products, but the primary purpose of Steam is as a marketplace. Most of the games sold on Steam, by a vast margin, do not belong to Valve.
They don't need to police every single game that is sold on there, just like Wal Mart really doesn't need to police every single brand of paper plates or dog food. Customers are intelligent enough to decide between products for themselves.
Devs should stop making shitty business decisions that result in short-term benefits for themselves at the cost of consumer benefit. That has nothing to do with Steam, who are just providing a place for these people to sell their product - it has everything to do with the Devs, who don't recognize that their customers provide their livelihoods and they really shouldn't bite the hand that feeds.
>Even fucking EA did refunds years before
Not really, EA's "refunds" were only refunds in name only here in the US.
Steam was the first platform to offer genuine, full, no-questions-asked refunds for digital products here in the US.
And again, consoles STILL don't offer this basic feature (largely because consoleniggers will lie down and accept it).
The argurment is that steam is not pro-consumer. They need to be forced by the law to be even a little bit pro-consumer
>Steam is not pro consumer
>Offers refunds
>Cloud saves
>Pushing linux
>Controller support for literally everything
How is Steam not pro consumer? Also please see

Nigger you were told they aren't pro-consumer because they allow DRM.
They don't force DRM onto anyone.
>Allow
>DRM
Stop putting this shit in your games and there won't be any in there. Steam didn't twist your arm.
Steam is DRM.
>may i recommend dropshot?
I play dropshot, but it's so much worse because it's even more dependant on goos teammates
>Get a 2 stack
>They suck each others dick
>One guy is your rank and the other is Gold 3
>If they self score they're silent
>You miss and allow big damage suddenly the loss is your fault because old dude can't tell his buddy he sucks dick
That's the publishers fault. If Steam didn't allow DRM they'd get dropped just like GOG
Again, they do not force DRM onto anyone. There are DRM free games on Steam.
So by this logic all launchers are DRM, so why would I support any but Steam?
>Not really, EA's "refunds" were only refunds in name only here in the US.
The fuck are you talking about zoomer? Since 2013 origin offered no question refunds.
>Origin
Yeah, but its Origin. Do you really want to take it up the ass from EA just to play Battlefield? I'm surprised you even suggested it.
Wrong, they were only "no-questions-asked" if you never launched the game before refunding.
Much like what consoles currently do.
I can't even live without Workshop and Controller support (I use a PS4 one and steam is better than installing some shit that hinders fps)

Show me a better service and maybe I'll consider it. Hopefully one of these up and comers will charge devs 40% and provide some even better refund services and sales. Then it'll be worth it.
Battle.net is practically the only other launcher that I can stand considering they've been on their own since the beginning. Every other fuckhead can eat a dick.
how the fuck are you supposed to quantify/qualify "undiscovered gems"
at least this list is objective data and may have a lot of games people didnt hear about cause they weren't major releases
its not monopolies its about not wasting ram on shitty useless bloat
arstechnica.com
I was there you faggot, I remember it too well.
>explain how epic buying 1 year of exclusivity is good for me, the consumer.
Explain how Steam having a monopoly of nearly 10 years has been good for PC Gaming? It literally transformed PC enthusiasts into mouth breathing retards who can't figure out how to run an installer. Hell, people don't even know what an executable is because all they've ever known is a "play" button. Steam wanted the console audience and it got them. Now it has to deal with console-like competition.
>how the fuck are you supposed to quantify/qualify "undiscovered gems"
The same way you write about any fucking game that isnt just reading data off a spreadsheet.
This is a good way to find small titles that don't necessarily blow up on Twitch/Youtube or here.
Steam does not offer crossplay as a feature for everyone, epic does. Cope harder with that mental gymnastics
steam doesn't need to do anything
epic is killing itself
Reminder that chinks are subhuman, Steam users are plebs, and pirates are patrician.
Nigger, I tried to use that very same fucking "service" to refund Battlefield 4 only to be fucking denied because I had already launched the game.
I know it's bullshit.
Not to mention that even when it ISN'T being ignored it's still complete shit compared to Steam's, and still hasn't been changed to compete with Steam's.
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
>reeeee why didn't you write about MY favorite indie gem from this month
>reeeee why did you write about THAT indie from this month it SUCKED
user steam isn't ign/metacritic, they don't review games
>How does a developer being kept afloat benefit me the consumer?
Because you get to have a product to consume. Holy shit Steamtards are super dense lmao.
>More choice of what?
Your cognitive dissonance is showing. More choice of games to purchase. More variety. Instead of having Steam push out garbage green light games you will get better quality development thanks to Epic.
You didn't answer the question, retard.
All I hear from the EGS and Origins shills in here is
>I have the right to make a profit from my business!
But you don't. Making a profit is something you do only so long as you create products people want, and provide them at prices people will pay. NOT otherwise. If you can't do that, your business should die, and you should go fall on your sword or something and make way for the new talent. In the meantime, shut up and pay your 30% you greedy fucks, or build a better marketplace that only charges 15% somehow. If you can sell it cheaper than Steam, with better infrastructure and a greater library all at the same time and charge devs less than Steam, more power to you.
But you can't, because that's not how the credit and debit parts of the ledger work. If you take less money from devs, you have to provide less customer service, or hand out less refunds, or hire less staff and provide a shittier service. There has to be a cut somewhere, and most of these launchers are passing it down to the consumer instead of letting devs or publishers shoulder the burden like Steam is.
>Steam is a monopoly
How many bubbles does steam fit on this image?
EA refund policy is better than steam.
Also
>Refunding BF 4
Sure buddy, way to make your lie more believable
the 2% over 100% is the (((transactions fees)))
>Sure buddy, way to make your lie more believable
Now I know you're just trolling, all that shit about you not being a zoomer is obvious horseshit if you don't remember what a fucking trainwreck Battlefield 4 was at launch.
Don't @ me again, nigger.
I already have a product to consume without you trimming more fat for your head. Moreover, if you go out of business, or refuse to provide a product, someone else WILL take your place. You own a business only at the leisure of the consumers who buy your products.
if you have more than 100% you always have profit
>muh mental gymnastics
every time
keep on boasting about a recently added feature for Fortnut that's been possible for and has literally been around for nearly a decade, I'm sure that'll bring people into your store with no games.
Don’t worry user, I got your joke. Yea Forums is just chink shills and reddlt tourists at this point
>Don't @ me again
go back to social media
>Network effect good!
Yes, yes it is.
He doesn't remember when shadowrun 2007 and quake 3 Dreamcast had crossplay.
>everyone who isn't a corporate loyalist has downloaded the Epic Store for free games
Their store will be on my computer for a long time. I've got 5 games already and will getting a new one every week apparently. They basically found a place on my computer for years just for the games I am getting for free. If the store has deals in the future I'll be getting them there too.
Friendly reminder that people are so attached to steam they work for them for free. Fucking multi billion company does not need to hire translators, their own clients will do their work. If this isn't a cult then I have no further question. Shilling for epic is pure pleasure
what are you on about you spastic. I'm saying there is no value into writing about whats already said by their top sellers list. Theyre just giving you the same shit in a longer to digest format that would be better served for opinion pieces about games that didnt receive attention.
Oh damn, I completely forgot about those as well. Sure shows that zoomers and chinese really don't pay attention to older games
>Explain how Steam having a monopoly of nearly 10 years has been good for PC Gaming?
Publishers actually take the PC platform seriously now instead of assuming it's dead and that 'everyone's just a pirate.' Valve was able to turn regions like goddamn China and Russia into viable markets for PC sales
>Provide Games
>Lick Boot
Glad you're willing to bend over for any corporate overlord who gives you free shit. Doesn't mean its a good idea though.
What a faggot
How am I bending over?
I have free shit at the cost of a launcher on my computer. If they have good deals in the future I can purchase them from said launcher instead of launchers without those deals.
I only gain, I lose nothing.
not everyone pays attention to the top sellers every day of every month
there was an user in this very thread that missed a game he seemed very excited about that was on that list
and again, how do you figure out which games deserve to be written about and which ones don't? steam isn't for opinion pieces, if you really want that curators still exist
You're running a launcher owned and operated by the Chinese. Work it out, I shouldn't have to spell out for you why this is a bad decision.
This is a very funny post. I hope it was a joke.
>Valve was able to turn regions like goddamn China and Russia into viable markets for PC sales
You can't be more wrong
I have this exact same fascination with League of Legends patch notes. I haven't even played League in years, but I keep reading the patch notes because it always looks like whoever wrote them didn't want to write anything else but that.
That launcher is being proven to datamine your steamfiles. What else could this shit be doing in your computer.
He's right, though. Markets that were basically unheard of in PC Gaming are now markets sold to almost exclusively by Steam. Tons of places in South America, Africa, Russia, the Balkans, South AND North Asia have been brought into the market in quantities large enough to warrant their own localizations of hundreds of popular titles, where previously these areas basically didn't EXIST in the PC Gaming market previously, outside of big power players like China and Japan that had a strong PC brick and mortar presence.
Yes, it did that. But these info was only stored not send anywhere else. Apart from that it does not doing more than steam in terms of spying. The fucking thing started with a Reddit post, go figure
>no u tier response
splendid
Just imagine a kid with so much free time that he could translate things for fun, and be credited for it so he could put this on his resume when trying for a job or giving him some new perspective of things in life. You know, how much would you think you should be paid to write some words? Fuck you.
Only partially.
He's wrong about Russia since they still just pirate everything, not so much about China.
>You can't be more wrong
But they did. They did it by providing carious payment methods since not everyone in those regions commonly uses the standard methods used in online purchases. Also don't be a retard and think because I said they made them 'viable markets' that means I'm somehow implying piracy went away
>Shill is suddenly silent
>Because you get to have a product to consume
This is not beneficial to me.
>More choice of games to purchase
So I have to spend more money on less content but more products? How is this beneficial to me?
Man, not that guy, but you took a point of view I totally agreed with and turned it around to make it sound like an overwhelmingly shit deal somehow. You took
>Hey guys, Sword Soldier III needs a translation to French and we'd like some French speaking fans with free time to help translate!
and turned it into
>You should work for free in your free time to provide work to ungrateful fucks who don't want to pay for your labor! But its okay, you'll get some experience on your resume that you could just as easily get at a paying job, were I willing to pay anything like the law says I should.
I can't even begin to fathom your retardation. You got no credentials, it was literally voluntary slave labor
Are you implying that US based companies don't take insane amounts of data from every app installed and sell them to the highest bidder?
You fucking write about it and get it approved by your writing manager or whatever. Obviously you're not going to cover everything but its literally as simple as picking one they like.
I was forced to start pirating because of Steam.
>at first
It is still shit, paying for a download is shit and Valve is the one that popularized and normalized it.
Physical's cut isn't comparable, they have to deal with actual physical products, only have so much space which is inherent advertising, and they outright buy the physical copies.
>its all about the devs, how dare you ask for a physical copy, don't you know those take more work and we don't make as much money!?!?!?
I don't pay for digital, give your game a proper physical release or I will happily pirate.
You were only able to translate steam client and valve games. No support for indie shit, support our multi billion company
I don't... I can't...
I'm not sure I can explain to you why
>VOLUNTARY
>SLAVE LABOR
is not a fucking thing. How do you even breathe without two brain cells to rub together?
Retard
>voluntary
>slave labor
These two statements don't fit with each other
>Paying for a download is shit
Burn it to a CD you fucking inept chimp.
curators and other websites exist for literally this reason
fucking subscribe to indiemonthly or whatever if you want hidden gems of the month monthly, steam employees don't officially offer their opinions on games and it should stay that way
Of course they do. I'm not saying the US isn't completely morally bankrupt. But unless you're Chinese yourself, you should already understand that China isn't just morally bankrupt, they burned down the bank and built a combination casino, whorehouse and gulag on the ruins. There isn't even a comparison.
If you think it was ever about that lol.
>implying you won the genetic lottery either
sweeny is rich and swimming in money. you aren't.
>He's wrong about Russia since they still just pirate everything
Not really. Before Crimea a lot of russians stopped pirating since regional pricing really good thing.
After Crimea salary flop happened and most russian struggled to upgrade pc/buy new games. Also regional pricing started to declining with 60$ AAA titles(that are still like 30$ in Russia, but salary is too low, like 300-500$ in average not DC/DC2), so fucked everything too.
There was good times when AAA games was priced at 20$ and salary was better. I miss it.
Then how has Valve been able to turn a decent number of people in piracy-centric countries into paying customers on Steam?
I'm not a native speaker, if it hurts your brain so much then just ignore the word slave.
Russian steam keys bought by people in first world countries looking for a deal.
Multiplayer. There is your answer
Curators and websites can also list sales data, so what? I guess steam should stop showing that. Theyre uninvolved with steam. If steams going to have a blog, they should write something that has value.
There's a decent number of Chinese-centric single-player games that have made it big on Steam
>Durr No Speeka Da Inglish
Okay buddy, let me educate you.
Slave. Noun.
>A person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
You cannot volunteer if you are someone else's legal property and they can legally compel you to do whatever they want you to do against your will. Making in voluntary, by definition and in every other sense of the word, means you cannot have slave labor. Slave labor means you go to prison, are tortured, or killed by the person who OWNS you when you refuse to work. These people volunteered, they didn't have to be compelled to work, and they can always refuse. It wasn't slave labor.
>Piracy
>Get the game
>Get nothing else
>Steam
>Get the game
>get everything else
That's how
How black are you?
White as fuck, actually. It just boils my blood that someone was dumb enough to use the phrase "Voluntary slave labor". Learn english for fucks sake.
This.
Also society-oriented thing to show off your games, etc.
It is s thing tho
en.m.wikipedia.org
As a sexual fetish or a function of being mentally ill, sure. The very definition of slavery keeps it from being voluntary though - if you sold yourself into bondage, you volunteered, you weren't made a slave. The two are mutually exclusive.
>this projection
Someone has personal issues!
Well, I believe people that work for valve voluntarily are mentally ill so I wasn't wrong then.
This is the most blatant shill post I have ever seen. Did people just magically forget how bad BF4's launch was?
>why do europeans even bother posting on /v
While Europeans post here I'm sure. I'm also positive most people that post "Why are Americans..." are actually American's trying to trigger other posters into bitching at them.
I only have one problem with Steam. And that's the fact that there's one or maybe two Valve employees in the Steam Team that absolutely loathe cute & funny games.
If they get rid of those chucklefucks then I'm happy.
