When will it finally be our time anons?
Wakes up
>Inb4 ps1/ps2 did get remade and sf1's gba remake
I want re-remakes please.
At least I can post some Shining fanart now in a more relevant thread.
Has Sega come out with news? I would assume since Sonic is pretty shit right now they could focus on other IPs
the map in the book in the opening of shining force is palma's overworld. and dark dragon is dark falz. shining force is a prequel to phantasy star on planet palma.
They had a survey in March asking about what you'd like to see more of from their original IPs which included both Phantasy Star (with both the original Phantasy Star series and PSO counted as 2 different things) and Shining having their own sections. Shining Force also made the top 10 iirc in the fan poll that Sakura Wars won that allowed it to get a new game as well as Sega kind of teasing a Shining that might lean more to the old ones when Shining Resonance released so there's that. They haven't really said much else on Phantasy Star lately besides PSO2 (it's getting a new anime?) though.
Thanks for coming back.
You're welcome.
Both of their stories has something to do with an evil force coming back in 1000 years so I wouldn't be surprised.
Still pretty bummed this designer passed. I enjoyed his work a lot.
this face is totally dark falz
and here is that map
and palma's overworld
You might be onto something.
Well Phantasy Star was made before Shining Force so I wonder if they ended up using it as place holders for some parts now.
shining in the darkness was made by phantasy star 1's dev team
I forgot about this, it really has been a while I guess.
1000 years like phantasy star.
I always think of Cameela whenever I see Camilla from FE.
Cummers.
Delete this.
Man I want another Phantasy Star so bad. SEGA cant even fucking give us PSO2 though.
Shining Star
Phantasy Force
I wish they would finally even just tell us that we aren't getting the game rather than complete radio silence.
Force Star
Shining Phantasy
It was a good series. Only 3 sucked
Phantasy Phorce
All the more reason it needs to be re-made one day.
I'm so sick of Taka's sameface/samehair
>New Shining Force game never
>Camelot (Sonic) only makes shitty Mario sport games
>Sega cannot do a single thing right
If you haven't played it, Shining Force 3 scenario 2 and 3 have complete fan translations that can be modded into the games. While the translation team is technically still working on it they are just translating bonus disc interviews and reviewing and perfecting past translations. They will probably never actually stop because they are autistically delving into every word.
SSF can run them both too so no Saturn is necessary.
Shining Force does have the continent of Parmecia, humans living in Parmecia would be known as Parmans which could be the basis of calling the whole planet Parma in the future when they get space tech and introduce themselves to the Desorians and Motavians.
He was alright for Shining Tears but he has long overstayed his welcome, the series is just a commercial for his figures now.
I feel you.
>tfw all the sega saturn emulators run like shit on my pc
I played it on a PC that is a toaster by today's standards. No real issues outside of one map. Give it a shot again and since Shining Force is turn based so performance issues don't mess up commands.
Never forget

Try Mednafen. It's great.
They look nothing alike though
Let me fire up rpgmaker real quick
I´m gonna, thanks Yea Forumsros
SSF should run fine, it's just a pain in the ass
So many kino games locked on the saturn, feels bad desu
>Mednafen
Hadn't heard of that. It seems like it runs better than SSF, I'll have to give it a shot .
Looking around there is even an Android Saturn emulator that is supposed to run well now. Things really turned around in the Saturn emulation scene.
Unrelated but does anyone have the Kris edit of this image
please and thank you
The PS1 and PS2 remakes are so damn UGLY, man.
The art really took a dive in the remake, didn't it
Wait what is this for?
Nice
I think the designs in the first remake weren't so bad but the second one things get questionable.
I can deal with slightly redesigned characters I can't take remakes that fake their way out of pixelation. Either new HD hand drawn or bust. I don't need this traced over crap.
FUCK TONY AJG:AJFAJFAJFALJFNABFALHJBELHFLUCAJCKCCMCVBVOABUEBEUBEFPEFEBWJFKW
I love Nei!
4 was planned.
It's worse than that. They looks like fucking flash games from the early 2000s. Look at this crap.
Nei is cute!
The remakes were made as budget titles. Like most sega ages games.
Indeed she is.
Based Nei user
Anyone has the link for emuparadise?
It's pretty sad that such a important title for Sega was given a budget remake like this.
Thank you.
I wish there was more artwork of her though...
Nei has been my waifu since I was 4 years old
One day I'll dump the comic
Still playing PSO on my Wii, haven't beat Ultimate Falz yet
I just want a new Panzer Dragoon
Or just a Saturn Mini with the PD trilogy, Burning Rangers, Shining Holy Ark, Dragon Force 2, etc
Why the fuck does Western box art Nei look like Cher with devil horns.
Wew, based Namaniku_ATK having good taste.
>When will it finally be our time anons?
Thus it shall befall Him, who to worth in women over-trusting, Lets her will rule: restraint she will not brook; And left to herself, if evil thence ensue She first his weak indulgence will accuse.
The app and Ultimate Sega Genesis collection have a smoothing filter for the series.
The app version smoothes less.
fuck sega for ignoring real classics
kek @ that image
I play Fire Emblem and I wanna try out some Shining Force. Anything I should be aware about before hopping in?
imagine killing off the best character sega made in years so a crosseyed blond manlet could have his first gay adventure
Is that an actual port? Looks cool as fuck.
>alis' lips
DELETE THIS
Its on switch with maps added.
So just a basic emulator smoother?
Can't stand that stuff.
Dat ass.
I haven't played enough FE to really give some good tips about, but I heard that FE plays faster than SF, if only because of town exploration? Also you can hold back on promoting characters as soon as possible to make them a bit stronger when you finally do if you want.
...
When I first played persona 2 I thought the battle system reminded me of PSIV, with the fusion attacks and turn rearrangement (similar to macros) and all. Though p2 also has some other interesting mechanics that make combat more fun like the persona switching itself and demon negotiation. But nowadays I see p2's combat system universally disparaged as absolute garbage online. Is PSIV's combat also "garbage"? Why or why not?
Why are Newmans such nasty sluts?
Dam
Leotards are a wonderful thing.
I really admire her dedication to Phantasy Star, she was the one who made the book dumped last thread, as well as making another Phantasy Star book just for fun recently. She also likes the old Shining and other old Sega games a lot as well.
I wonder if we'll ever see them be a big thing in series again.
>I wonder if we'll ever see them be a big thing in series again
Not in the US.

In case that user didn't see my post
>Takes place in a land called vandor and is set after dark falz' defeat (about 20 or so years)
>A group of heroes called the Argonauts were responsible for defeating and sealing DF
>Time passes and signs of dark falz resurrection is shown (monters popping up. Miasma, the usual shit)
>A new group/army called the aries Knight's are tasked with making sure the seal on DF isn't broken and defeating it once and for if need be
>The world has 4-5 races Humans, elves, demonic (basically dewmans), gnomes, machina (casts) and beasts/lycans
>Smt-esque in the way where that there are factions based on alignment: Law and Chaos
>Lawfags derive power from runes while chaosfags derive power by tatoos
>Neutral fags exist too but they derive their power from weapons(?)
>There are also these things called Idola that are practically kaiju that comes and fuck shit up as a result of DF
>Fun fact: the idola are based off of constallations and the zodiac/horoscope
>however the people of vandor can summon and utilize idola as well, these people's are called zodiates to fight back
>There also ties to PSO2 lore wise since there's an abandoned campship underneath a kingdom in vandor and that there's lilipans there too
If only this wasn't a mobile game it would be perfect for a regular PS game. I hope they pull a cygames and make a relink esque game or something
>best girl dies
Who thought this shit was acceptable?
2 is pretty dark thematically
To be fair, the game kinda hints at it. Nei levels up faster than your other party members
Reminder that PSIV has a drama CD and we're at least fortunate enough to have a translation of it. It's still amusing that Nei's voice actor is also Sailor Moon's VA.
Not much of a best girl since she only gets much characterization in the mini-adventures side game. But then until the devs later confirmed they survived, it was easy to interpret the ending as everyone dying altogether - and even though Rolf and the gang live, they got left in the Mother Brain-less world's chaos and destruction.
You can save nei in the remake.
Reminder that people die when they are killed
even if you make a clone, she's still dead
For such a cheery looking game with a pretty upbeat ost, I'm not sure anything real happy happens in ps2. The subtitle in the jp version is something along the lines of "the end of time which cannot be returned to" and that's basically what everything in the game leads up to.
A best girl is still a best girl user, even if technical limitations prevented them from fully fleshing her out in the main game.
IIRC, you have to have a save file from the PS1 remake and then jump through some hoops to bring her back. It's not really worth it imo.
This is a real picture from the game manual.
I feel like that dilutes the significance of her death in the first place
Thot it up.
memeber motabia
a complete PSG1 save, probably NG+ in PSG2, every side quest and hidden quest completed, every party chat discussion and notable unique conversation (so this means even unintuitively talking to NPCs before certain triggers and then talking to them again right after), and if you manage all of the shit behind it, refusing to dive immediately into fighting Nei First and doing one final discussion before fighting her. If you manage all of the arbitrary conditions, then rumors will talk about someone wanting to see you, you can resurrect Nei, and she sticks herself in your party permanently again.
That's like Star Ocean 2 "unlock the final boss' limiter" levels of shit (albeit for a much shorter game by comparison), except you have to have and beat a completely separate game to boot.
you can only do it in a second playthrough and you need to have beaten psg1 and psg2 on the same save. then you need to tediously view every single dialog in the game up to the point of her death in order to get the chance to revive her.
perfect
If I ask my wife to wear a leotard, pointy ears and wig will it cause problems?

I think I've actually posted most I have off hand but I hope this thread is still alive for the user from last thread.
so what Phantasy Star game is she from? I have I through IV emulated

Shameful.

Hi
Wish there was tifa and samus.
garbage collab
>there was a remake
why did I never hear about this until now?
It seems a lot of people aren't fond of them, like pointed out.
don't think they were embraced by the community. generally told to play the genesis versions.
First and Second games.
I like the artwork
Late 80s OVA-style art fits PS2 so well.
Thank you user. I'm the one who asked.
I guess it's a post apoc PSO2 game then?
Any more classic PS pics?
As promised, begining SF/PS dump, though it seems like a lot of the better ones were posted already. This may take some time, as my image folders are more chaotic than a trip through the warp sans Gellar Field.
Aww, I was going to do a PSO dump once you were done.
Go ahead. It's not like I'm going to throttle the connection to Yea Forums or anything lol.
Also, sorry if I accidentally post a dupe, I'm doing my best to remember which ones were already posted, but I am but mortal.
Vince Mcmahon?
Just as I finished up. Glad you were still able to make it though user, and thanks.
Thank you for the quality image harvest. A deal's a deal, after all.
Gamegear
This is supposed to be Anri and Tao and Sarah and Karna, IIRC.
Everyone complains how much MS ruined Rare, but to me it's retribution for what Nintendo did to Kamelot.
Is this a Japanese parody of American art?
>though it seems like a lot of the better ones were posted already.
Heh. Sorry about that. Figured I get some of the better ones out of the way first
Kino
EXA isn't exactly classic Shining, but I happen to think the idea of a baby phoenix nesting in a little witch's hat is adorable so this image gets a pass from me.
Thanks, reading this made me happy
It looks close to esad ribic from marvel.
This is true kino
if only both characters looked 40 years younger
Not really, iirc idola is its own place but it's heavily hinted that this is a nova situation where arks was tasked to chart out and survey new planets but got stranded if you take pic related into account
Based, this looks like those scifi book covers from the 60s

If I'm right then this is PS2/4's artist's twitter; he doesn't post much and it's mostly of Nei but that's an acceptable trade off: twitter.com
I'm pretty sure PS3's artist also has a twitter but I'm not sure what it is at the moment as well as being unsure if she still draws art of the characters (she might though since I know she still liked them a lot).

Sasuga Yoshida
How would you guys feel about a full Phantasy Star 1 remake? Not just making the graphics prettier, as in completely revamping the combat, fleshing out the story and world, etc.
PS1's setting is really underused in the game itself, so a remake that expands on it and the plot would be pretty cool. They'd probably severely cut back or remove the dungeon crawling.
It'd be a gamble, I feel, given the way things have been turning in the last few years. It has the potential to be awesome and the potential for disaster.
This was art of a young Alys if you couldn't tell.
I guess I'd be okay with it. But >Sega
>they turn alis into waifubait like the pso2 one
Given how trashy the niche JRPG scene has gotten in the past decade, I don't see Sega being able to do it any justice.
A bit higher quality for you.
Thanks.
As I said.
Potential for disaster.
might not be a popular opinion in this thread, but is there any reason to return to Algol? Sure you might draw in the nostalgia types, especially the ones with their own kids, but the franchise has moved on.
Its exactly one of the things I want for the series but as the others have said, it's a bit of a gamble with how things are today. I have seen people off and on talk about giving PS and SF the mania treatment like they did with Sonic and I think that would alleviate my fears a little if they did.
I play 4 late at night.
And in the original Japanese, apparently.
>rudi
fucking yikes m8
You're looking at it from a practical standpoint. I don't care about the money, I just think it would make for a great game. PS1's setting and cast was already so cool in 1988, just imagine what it could be with modern technology and a big budget.
Damn, this is fucking disgusting.
What's up with this generic anime art
Hah, that's funny. I have a screencap of that scene.
Is this vaguely japan?
Shining is dead because Sega won't let Camelot touch it again and even if they did, Nintendo (Iwata) gutted Camelot years ago
>generic anime art
oh user, it gets so much worse
I like finding the Twitter accounts for old game devs and seeing that they still like the old games they worked on. A while back I found one of PSO's programmers (the lead one, I think), and he still seems to be fond of the series since his avatar is the default FOnewearl from PSO.
I agree with what said, but I also miss a lot how the setting was in the original games, even though I do like how PSO/PSU went further with the sci-fi too. It's a nice mix of sci-fi and fantasy I don't feel you see often these days. It wouldn't have to be based in Algol of course if setting was the only thing, but that wouldn't be what I wanted since watching it change for better or worse is a vital part of the original games. Combined with the fact that the original staff expressed that they would like to make a PSV that is either a prequel to how the Algol system came to be or a sequel that shows the effects of numans integrating into society, I can't help but like to go back even if it was just for one more game.
It'd be a waste of resources that could be spent on an all new game. PS1 is already a good game, why have a soulless revisitation when you could have something likely equally soulless but at least new and fresh?
This is making me angry.
Cute.
Don't open, cursed image
Time to tame this kitty
...Isn't that an image from that long defunct PS2 manga on the PSCave?
Man that's some memories there.
Wish I could take credit for it, but thanks anyway.
Shadow cat from aoa has claws similar to nei.
Remembering the image might help in an image dump.
Guess i could demake a phantasy star game. 2 on nes?
Do it.
Did I step into /vr/? Redpill me on these games.
Ps4 on nes here.
So Lagrange Point?
Looking good Rune!
If the Chinese can make a bootleg of PSIV then the sky's the limit.
I was a fan of the original phantasy star games back in the day but never played anything past that and I'm not sure where to start. Is there ever gonna be a pso3 or something?
I'm worried about the Panzer Dragoon remakes
its art style is inimitable.
Ok this is epic
> Is there ever gonna be a pso3 or something?
Not for a long time, at least. PSO2 has a 10 year commitment, so it'll be getting at least trickle updates until 2022 and likely stay online for a few years afterwards. During that time there'll be no direct competing product from Sega.
Bootleg.
have a nostalgia trip
The original PD were inspired by this artist. How hard would be to not fuck up?
Is it true that she's Orta's mother?
Yeah.
>phantasy-star.net
You weren't kidding.
I maintain Joel Fagin's fiction was the best thing there, but I love the idea of fleshing out PSII's Earthmen, so I'm heavily biased.
I thought Azel died at the end of PDS.
Phantasy Star was Sega's answer to Dragon Quest at the time while Shining was another big rpg they had that most memorable games are comparable to FE. Phantasy Star stands out a lot for being the first rpg at the time to really use a sci-fi setting as opposed to the medieval based fantasies others would use along with having things like permanent party member death and character driven stories before games like FF popularized it. Shining on the the hand does have a medieval fantasy but compared to other games even now, it went all in with including lots of playable fantasy races from centuars to birdmen and dragons as opposed to just the usual elves and drawves. Both games current incarnations though are pretty different though now.
I'm honestly very glad that this site along with PScave and some others are still up and running after all these years. I'm still pretty sad over all that was lost when Geocities went down since I know quite a bit was lost from that too.
Well she was alive at the end of PDS though. She was looking for Edge. Although she did die by the time Orta happens eventually I guess you're half-right
Now I'm wondering if that site with the theories about Thea from PS3 is still up. It was really interesting since it tried to figure out who would have saved her since the events in Ayn path still would have happened even if you didn't marry Maia, I liked them a lot, though the character designer ruined it by saying that Ryan probably got his scar from tripping down the stairs at home.
To me SF2 was their answer to FF. Solely because it actually had towns with npcs, inns etc, and a world map.
It's also more friendly than the PS games were up to PS4. Too bad it's just so fucking slow, I had to play it on PAL, imagine the torture.
I am hoping that I can catch this doujin up for sale somewhere everyday.
>PAL
Painful. I agree with it being friendly compared to the first 3 PS games though. I feel I have heard a few others view it as an answer to FF as well.
I dunno.
I think videogames are ulitmately a product of the talent and resources of a given team.
SotC's remake is definitely different in terms of lighting and design than the original. Different engines treat light, color and shadow differently. I don't think I've seen any recent game even come close to how the Sega Saturn handled models (quads instead of triangles) and lighting.
I'm extremely skeptical that a modern developer without proper artistic direction can adapt Zwei and Saga's art style to modern technology. The original has more potential to be adapted since it uses a traditional color palate for its backgrounds. Compared to its successors, PD1 is very vibrant and colorful.
Wht do you mean?
It's NES Phantasy Star
>users.skynet.be
Oh good, it's still here.
Nice.
No, anything but this song.
Asshole.
If you ever find it, I beg you to upload it somewhere. I'm paying for a translation if ever I find it.
Nice. I just spent an hour trying to find a post PSIV fic I know Fagin did that seems to have disappeared from the net.
>Tony Taka
What became of him?
>Nei has horns
>Mother Brain is an actual fucking brain
The artist here spent about 20 seconds learning about the source material.
often artists were simply contracted with basic ideas of what they're working with and likely never even get the opportunity to look at what they're doing art for. especially with the 90's attitude of bringing in random ass artists and graphics designers for de-weebifying everything for marketing purposes.
>the year is 2020
>the next shining comes out
>artist is someone respectable, plenty of horsegirls
>suddenly sega announces phantasy star 5
>tony is the artist
I'm not going to say it was Dark Force...
...but it was Dark Force.
...and that's the last image we get gentlemen. I have to go to bed anyway, if there's a thread tomorrow I will resume dumping.
>Tony somehow someway finds a way to insert his elf fetish in PS
Goodbye user see you next thread
There's also a PS doujin anthology I've been looking for that the PS3 designer was a part of, but no luck there either. If I ever have the luck of getting my hands on it I'll definitely try to post it on whatever threads that come up.
I also know the pain of looking for old fics. I was really afraid that an old SF2 fic was gone but luckily someone found it for me when I asked about and I have it backed up now.
He's still around, unfortunat-
Please no just free us of him
Welp. Goodnight though user! Thanks for all the pictures, I hope you have good dreams tonight. I should also rest as well.
it's Raita
You're very much welcome. Thanks to everyone else who contributed as well, I found a lot of gold tonight.
Same here, my PS/SF folder got to grow a little more.
>Raita
I've grown a bit fond of his art thanks to Valkyria Chronicles so I'd be ok with this, I think.
trigger warning
Thanks user.
Thanks for wasting the last image on that
Begone Tony Thotaka
This was a cool thread. I never knew there were so many old school phantasy Star fans on Yea Forums.
There are Sega rpgs marked for the Xbox E3 presentation, maybe we'll get a surprise there. Or maybe this is just wishful thinking but it's nice to believe in things
It'll never happen, but it would be nice.
>Xbox
xbox fans don't play jrpgs, especially not anything like phantasy star
We're spread out but we're around. I also agree it would be a nice surprise, but I wouldn't hold my breath too much (though PSO/PSU were also on the xbox before so I guess it wouldn't be too out of the question).
I do. I actually moved to the Xbox after Sega was oficial dead and that's were I remained until now. Love Panzer Dragoon Orta.
But thags beside the point, a reveal at E3 wouldn't probably mean exclusivety. Remember that's how ToV Remaster was revealed last year.
chances are it's going to be Persona 5
>P5
I didn't think my hopes could get any lower, but you're absolutely right.
I'm gonna buy sega mini.
I should have asked this before thread hit image limit, but did anyone else actually buy Shining Resonance? Even though I haven't played it much since I bought it, it did come with an online survery about the Shining series in general to fill out, asking everything from why you bought the game and what you'd like to see in the future from the series. I wonder if we'll ever see results from both that and the survery they had back in March.
I vaguely remember there being a fan campaign in the late 00s where shining fans basically told sega to go fuck themselves, anyone here participate in that or recall the details?
I wanted to. But I never got around to it.
But from what I know and what other people I knew who played it said. It was just a very typical JRPG. Like the kind that could pass as a early PS3 era one.
Yeah, pretty generic storywise and stuff on top of playing like Tales, but not as smooth. You can't use artes and move around at the same time which is a bit annoying coming if you're used to actual Tales gameplay. I got it though just to show that there's still some interest in the series in the west at least so I hope they at least got that.
These Phantasy Star threads were comfy. Thanks anons.
