SNK has been dead for years. Terry has been shuffled about so much from game to game in a desperate bid to get sells for bargain bin games it's actually sad.
Also MK11 just came out.
SS would have had a hard time selling with no competition. But trying to sell just a month or so after MK is going to be rough.

It's dead for normal game standards but for actually good, non-nrs standards, if it plays well it'll do ok, probably lasting longer than mortal kombat in the competitive scene. It already turned a profit so there's not that much worries

I think the "buy the game in the first ~5 days of launch and get the Season Pass free" was a really smart idea to help keep the game alive for a while. More people will get on it at launch and more people will have free characters coming in as a result and thus an excuse to return.
SNK has announced that SamSho has made a profit from pre-orders alone. It's also targeting a very different (if niche) crowd from MK11.
