I doubt it will be too heavily connected since the first game has William's story and this has character creation. Probably just references to the first game. However, I'd say consider going back to the original. Yep, and you'll have no choice but to like it.

The color palette was never a problem for me, but I didn't like that there were no light source items like torches or lanterns. Some of those stages were way too fucking dark and I had to turn the brightness all the way up.

Yeah, the alpha was still well before final optimisation had been done. Action mode in the alpha was 720p locked but would spend most of its time in the mid-40s.

Those are the same enemy; the small ones can become the big ones by eating other small ones after you break their ki, so be careful when you fight multiple of them at once.

Ok so first impressions so far (after beating the first mini boss in one try):
- Movement is really slow
- Animations, sans the running one, are top tier
- Meme Axes are actually interesting, but their moveset other than throwing is a little repetitive (no 2kat in the Alpha so I don't know if they'll come back)
- Odachi got a slight revamps and I'm loving it
- Dying twice is now very punishing and you don't want that

What weapon did you main your first playthrough? What is your favorite overall? Least favorite?

For me I mained the lightning kusarigama and rarely ever switched from it. That lightning status effect was too strong. Favorite weapon overall, easily katana. Least favorite would probably be tonfa.

If you summon from the Shrine you can summon actual players (which might be off or not, I don't know). If you use them to summon the blue revenants, it's just AI (which I guess they added to avoid the game feeling empty when/if the community dies)

No, it's literally Nioh 1 but armor weight actually matters now, there's new moves for some of the weapons, enemies are faster and you get wrecked in 3 hits. Yokai take 1/2 of your Ki bar per hit and most of them have a grab attack that will fuck you up. I find the need to cheese them every time.

Yeah, unless it's Megaman, it's usually better to have a cohesive game world and progression structure in a 3D action game aping the Souls formula. Fucking Super Mario World has a better "hub" and feeling of progression and world placement than Nioh's literal text on a UI for progressing the game. After 90 minutes, I now remember why I decided not to buy the first game after beta, and why I generally avoid Souls-like games.

Perma-losing "souls" pisses me off more than just about anything in video games. I can redo insane platforming challenges over and over until I finally succeed god knows when with little frustration. I didn't get the game because I wanted it and I am not a fan of these sorts of games as I hated dark souls, got gifted Nioh and ended up beating it and enjoying it. I have not decided if I wanted the sequel or not as that felt like a once in a lifetime experience that couldn't be replicated or the charm may wear off. I am not good at these sorts of games the only game I have actually been able to be good at in these sorts of games is Sekiro even Nioh I had a lot of trouble.
