The other user is right, all that shit is random, but reapers are the best faction soldier. Theyre the best scouts, and with their concealment they can even do some missions on their own. Also, Banish with superior repeaters and superior magazines.

The ocean is super fucking alien, TFTD did a lot wrong, but the underwater world felt great. It's one of the most alien places to humans, but it's so close to us. All sorts of shit can be down there too. TFTD had loads of biomes as well

Get open XCOM. The UI's aren't too bad, there are guides and once you get it the UI is pretty simple.
It might be worth reading up what you are meant to do on the wiki, as the objectives aren't the most clear, plus the game can pull some absolute bullshit.
The sectoid base commander blows himself up with a blaster bomber if you aren't quick enough killing him.

There's no need for that, the research entries basically tell you straight up what you need to do next when you research one of the main plot ones.

Covering Fire/Ever Vigilant at Captain/Major levels, Cool Under Pressure at gorilla school
AP or talon rounds depending on the situation, laser sight or scope mods for your gun, Skulljack for a once-per-mission rangering on ADVENT troops, and of course hair trigger/repeater

I was playing normal iron man. I took a mission restart in the final level. I got the last avatar down to 1 health. But then got bounded by a viper and crit hit by the last avatar. I'm proud of getting 99% through the game without save scumming. But I took a mission restart. Did the first game on normal all the way through though. .

Some enemies have thick as fuck armor and huge health bars to boot, but that's why Shen made AP rounds and gave them to Grenadiers and Rangers

Maybe I'm underestimating it, but I feel like blue screen gear is overrated. Most mechanical units are just heavily armored, so AP rounds also work. They stand out in the open, so hitting them isn't a problem. Or just bring a Specialist and zap/hack them.
Lacking all of that though, I suppose bluescreen gear would help.
