The only thing that maintains a big playerbase for longer than a few months is constant "content" updates the likes of which a sweatshop-tier large team can pump out constantly, like Fortnite or League of Legends. If the game is not constantly running on the illusion of a game that is constantly expanding (with meaningless cosmetics and deliberate 'balance' patches that fuck said balance), then the overwhelming majority of easily bored players go looking for another carrot on a stick.

The thing that maintained playerbases to a game in the past were mods, community content and custom modes/settings. Virtually no games have that nowadays, but those that DO are unsurprisingly the ones that stand the test of time. Modern devs have been burdened with the task of generating the extra content that players loved to do themselves for free, for fun, because there's a revenue stream there. Not even the biggest teams can match the amount of content output as the whole of their base.

The last thing they did was release Octane. After a few matches, you pretty much see all there is to see, so it got stale pretty quick. I dont even think they plan on doing anything else until the season is over

Ea is fucking incompetent. Even if they do get an occasional wonder hit like that they literally do nothing with it and allow it to slowly die. Completely out of touch with the industry, its like they arent in a very volatile and modern entertainment industry but making cardboard boxes, toilet paper or some shit and think that as long as they invest enough money into a new factory and all the logistics it will turn a profit and will continue to do so for years without any touchups. Literally why do they bother with something like games at this point? Just invest into more traditional industries if you are too lazy to even lift a finger to support your hits that just fall into your lap. Wasting talent and money at this point.

I'm still seething that they closed down Dawngate.

They never needed to go Fortnite levels of content. What they needed to do, however, is ensure regular meaningful updates. They tried this with Havoc > Octane > S1, and while the first two were cool, S1 was horrible. Add to this the fact that with every single bugfix, they introduced new extremely frustrating bugs. Add to this that it took them 2 fucking months to fix the latest bullshit, and then it turned out that, hey, they didn't even fix most of those bugs! No, somehow, they made the game even worse!

Add to that dwindling player numbers, no matchmaking, so you get matched with retards and go up against 10k kill no-lifes, and several other frustrating things (loot distribution, collision on drop, hitboxes, etc.) and you get why the game is basically killing itself.

It takes some real fucking retards to fuck up this hard, but Respawn did it. The base game is solid as fuck, but they managed to screw it up.

the differences between skins in fortnite are huge. From being a demon to a fucking banana. It works with their art style, they can do so much cosmetically. Apex has a realistic art style, they can't do nearly as much as fortnite does. All their skins are fucking recolors though, so they're not even trying at all. They should not be competing in price with fortnite skins.

The Apex devs also have to deal with people needing to be able to tell their characters apart, and they want the game to have completely on-model hitboxes. Maybe the hitbox thing will change since it's a constant source of complaints from people nowadays.

I have no idea why they decided to make a hero shooter where everyone is fucking ugly. Obviously, you can make your characters attractive in some other way (see tf2), but writing actually interesting and memorable characters in multiplayer games seems to be a lost art nowadays, so at the very least you can make them visually attractive even if their responses are the blandest shit (see overwatch).

The gameplay is too bland. Titanfall would be unbelievably bland without the 2 things that take it to the next levels of fun, competition, and gameplay/skill. The titans and the free running.

I understand why the titans were removed, they'd be hard or almost impossible to 1. implement, and 2. balance. But getting rid of the free running was on such a level of incompetence it's unreal. It's what makes titanfall so inherently fun to play so much fun to come back to at any one moment; especially titanfall 2 which has improved mechanics, as well as the newer things like the grapple. Without it, it's just call of duty, and that's it. It's not deep enough of a game when there's nothing to do but shoot others while moving. And the battle royal genre doesn't work for it either because it doesn't have the instant-replayability like a TDM game does like the "bland" CoD.

The removed wallrunning because they literally said casual players wouldn't be able to keep up or handle it. Fuck em. And fuck Respawn for going that route. Apex would have been infinitely more fun, long lasting, and enjoyable with the better mechanics; which would have also separated it from the other BR games because it would be unique.

The people who play games like Fortnite aren't people who are interested in playing a lot of games, they're like WoW players or mobile gamers in that way.
Trying to sell them a new game that's just Fortnite again was obviously a pointless effort.
