How come no one made a fuss about CJ in San Andreas being black?

With all the fits Yea Forums throws about token black and minority protagonists how come no one is pissed about Carl Johnson in GTA SA?

he was a realistic portrayal of the average black american male and not just journo bait.

It felt like an honest black game and had no virtue signaling PC nonsense

It was a different time

I'm going to say it...

The people that care about that weren't gaming when San Andreas was released.
But they lost their shit at the hot coffee mod when it surfaced years later.

SA was good.

They did. It’s revisionist history to claim otherwise. I think this comic is from like 2006-7?

Because he's a well written character in a game with a great storyline. That, and the game was actually fun to play.

All of this

San Andreas wasn't trying to be politically correct garbage.

N

It was before all the virtue signaling when you could have a film like Blade and the only thing on people's minds were "shit that film looks cool" it literally was a better time.

Most of the people who complain about blacks in vidya today weren't old enough to play it when it came out.

I

>game about West Coast gang rivalries during the early 90s
>token black and minority protagonists
>token
I'm sorry, wat?

CJ from GTASA isn't a token black. It's a straight up black gangster game. The problem is when you see a medieval fantasy game with a diverse cast of 1 of every minority with an even gender split and a random dude in a wheelchair.

Anyone over the age of 18 most likely hated the game back then because it was literally a nigga gangster simulator.
Only underage kids(the vast majority of GTA players) liked it.

>Anyone over the age of 18 most likely hated the game back then
speak for yourself I was hyped for SA the second it was announced

It all fit the setting without looking like the fucking burger king kid's club

Nah, i only disliked the game cause i was jealous and only had gta 3 but when i got it it was great

>being over the age of 18
>being jealous because you could only have 1 of the game
Sure buddy.

Hillary Clinton doesn't post on Yea Forums.

Made sense and was a good game with thought out characters, they had flaws and strengths.

Most token minority characters are just perfect with no faults and in places or time periods where they shouldn't be.

People can tell when a character is made with love and when it is made for consumer consumption, look at Aladdin vs every film that followed the celebrity voice actor animation formula thinking it was Robin Williams stardom that made it a good film when it was the writers who had Robin Williams in mind for the role that made the film.

Shit like that is what extremists and business people don't understand because they lack humanity.

>tfw bought GTA San Andreas at launch
Does that mean it still has all those files in there? I also have my original PS2 copy of Vice City before they edited it to eliminate all that dialog about Haitians.

Yes actually.

Dumb fucking zoomer.

my dad loves each and every 3D GTA as well as both Red Dead Redemptions, he was how I got into GTA III as a kid

>Anyone over the age of 18 most likely hated the game back then because it was literally a nigga gangster simulator.
non-americans don't have strong feelings against african americans, you are all just americans

I honestly miss those times. Things could just be entertaining, without an agenda.
Holy shit it must be awful to grow up with the currentway of thingsas the only way you ever knew and experienced.

>Because he's a well written character in a game with a great storyline.
Desu i love SA but none of that is true.

What's the scariest thing in GTA SA?

lol american movies have always been on an agenda

there's a reason everyone remembers CJ but everyone forgot generic wasp dude with a beard #34

Because he was black.

You could not write a more generic character than CJ even if you tried to.

They did. One of the first mods released for SA was to make CJ white. There's even an old ragecomic from this very site about a player complaining about him being black in one panel, then being 'converted' into blaring out NWA with enthusiasm in the next panel.
You're showing your age.

The woods in general were pretty creepy late at night when it was foggy. Especially since everyone used to spread the myth that there was bigfoot out there, or pigsy, or a serial killer. I used to have so much fun just exploring and seeing what I could find.

it's funny that a game that was never meant to be scary managed to be so creepy and sparked so many urban legends about monsters and shit while none of that was actually in the game

People did complain about it but you were 5 years old so you didn't fucking notice, zoomer.

>People throw fits at poorly written forced diversity and virtue signalling
>Game with nice likeable characters that aren't forced
>Wonders why not fits are thrown
People here don't throw shit fits over nothings, unless they're shills. Most shit fits are over "progressive" nonsense that doesn't benefit its game, which feels cheap and pandery. It's not rocket science.

Compare CJ to Franklin from GTA V and it becomes pretty obvious

Because there was no moral statement being made. CJ was a somewhat humorous character that simply served as a standin for the player. In the modern era where everyone is constantly obsessed with sociopolitics, minority main characters are consistently used to make a statement, whether it's a simple "look how capable and intelligent they are! they're just like us!!" or they go even deeper and make the story about how they're so oppressed and fighting back against the evil light skinned oppressors.

It's also why I didn't mind Franklin in GTA V (besides the issue all 3 protagonists had) because he isn't being used to make some virtue signalling statement, he's just a dude trying to play the game and fucking up anyone that he needs to, black or white, rich or poor; not an oppressed disenfranchised millenial fighting for the rights of all black people everywhere

Where's the "pissed off" you actual brainlet? The comic is a dude showing initial displeasure at the idea before having a ton of fun once he actually plays it. It's the exact opposite of what you're saying it is. Go back to lurking

That couldn't possibly be it.

>They did
Show me 1 (one) form post dumb zoomer
