the first level of swat 4 had you enter a home then venture down into some freak's dug out underground sex cave. that game was based
i liked the variety you had to approaching the scenarios. i loved rolling with the beanbag shotgun though it sucked the non lethal weapons became completely ineffectual against enemies in the later levels

regarding fallout 4 yeah, skeletons and terminals that were supposed to tell a story and give a good idea of how the world reacted to the apocalypse were mostly replaced with wacky shit like funneh positions spookers and other dumb fuckerey, most easter eggs were those dumb teddy bears.
but again, in 3 they were pretty nice, germantown police camp, z.o.b offices were really interesting reads, and you had things like those two skeletons in the hotel rooms, they were supposed to make a deal but they shot each other and you can hear on a tape one of the two saying this was supposed to get him and his daughter to rivet city, kind of disproving the whole "did people just stopped dying after the war, why are they only pre war skeletons around todd???"
meh, it's really hard to do this kind of shit when the environment is so huge and you have less control over what order/time a player experiences such things. I don't see what's the problem, of course the idea of a skeleton staying in position or even existing in most cases that long is absurd, but fallout has always been a cheeky shitpost setting where style > logic so it works for me

Fallout 4's skeletons don't tell a story, they are literally just jokes. It is inappropriate to call it environmental storytelling. I can't even remember any instances of Oblivion and Skyrim even trying to do environmental storytelling.
I found the small addition of Florians grave in White Orchard in Witcher 3 to be a nice addition.
I liked how the backstory of Florians homosexuality was tied into several quests in the game.

I made a mistake, they aren't truly jokes, not the type with a setup and a punchline. They're just wacky shit for its own sake, it's a bunch of skeletons in positions that there would be absolutely no reason for these skeletons to be in. There is no story that would explain their presence there, they are very obviously artificial.
Maybe if there were some side quest about a madman who runs around posing skeletons like a retard, then the scenes might be able to tell you something about his deteriorating mental state or even be a way to track him. That's not what happened though. They pretend these are actually the way the people who left these skeletons died. It's not storytelling when there is no story being told. A bunch of skeletons posed as if worshipping a clapping monkey toy is not a story, it's pointless absurdity to try and make the player laugh.

Witcher 3 just seem too cluttered to pull it off without the God-awfull witcher senses.
I think what makes this more depressing is that the cultists you arrest a regretful of what they did to their children. They just want to see their kids.
witcher 3 is just too big so it becomes a retarded VN non-game. what they *could* have done was make it a sorta detective story where each monster hunting mission is some highly interactive situation with various outcomes that depend greatly on your choices, clues, etc. you could use alchemy, problem solving skills, etc. to figure out what this beast is and how to best deal with it depending on the environment, practicality, and so on. this is what it almost trolled me into believing it was, and why I bought it originally. instead it's just le epic witcher senses button, press F to proceed the mission, etc. problem is, making a giant fucking game like witcher 3 and having every mission actually be good would take 20 years and 10 billion dollars. so they shit out this mediocrity instead. witcher 3 at least had some kino story moments like pic related though, even if it's not a good actual game
this is why I have soured on the sandbox, t.b.h. I think bethesda has come about as close as you can get to a good game with their fallouts/ES games (NV too), in the sense that they are large worlds but also highly interactive via they way it does combat/spells to allow for so many builds, people call it "inch deep ocean" but the league deep ocean is just too hard and expensive to make. so fuck that, it's time for linear games to return.

What you say about Witcher 3 being too big is true. That's why I liked White Orchard which works sort of as a segregated tutorial level from the rest of the game.
There is either a diary, note or someone mentioning it, but the Devil by the well got killed by the Baronet for mentioning that the Baronet's son was a faggot.
There is also a mention of Florians faggotry when you do the quest about the Griffin at White Orchard. Some NPCs even talks about it in the tavern. I really liked how tied together it all felt at White Orchard.
Games can tell a good story, but they rarely do it well as a game, as in tying the storytelling into the gameplay.
