I'm playing it completely unmoded right now. There's only the occasional crash, like once every 5-6 hours of gameplay.

It used to be an unstable, horrible, bug ridden mess on release, but that really isn't the case anymore.

Reminder that, to this day, New Vegas is an unfinished game that was ruined by the incompetence of Obsidian, and that there multiple files in the game that prove this.
Some of these files allude to post-game content, but Obsidian didn't add any, in fact because they didn't have the time at release, they chose to fuck over the game for years to come by making finishing the main quest send the player back to the title screen.

Obisidan were hacks then and are hacks now, they have done nothing but go down hill since then, Outerworlds will a phenomenal trash fire that'll be forgotten about within a year, it'll only pop up every now and then when some dying obsidrone wants to try and pretend it was a good game if you just ignore everything bad about it.

We are LUCKY that New Vegas made it so far without being sabotaged by Obsidian's incompetence.
Praise the game for what it is, not the developer for what they made it to be, Obsidian deserves to be forgotten.

New Vegas tricks you into thinking it has a good story by offering the illusion of choice and freedom.

it doesn't really trick you at all. yes man is the game incarnate, and your character is the player incarnate, so of course yes man can't say no to you, because only you really have a say in the outcome of the game. the ncr and legion and house all represent illusory power, ie characters in the game who all think they are the players of the game world in one way or another. this is made explicit in the existence of yes man. consider that benny betrays you as you initiate the game, and what this means, his betrayal an illusion set up by the game and the player in order to get you saved by doc mitchell and made an amnesiac, a shell for the player to enter. think about doc mitchell's line "i know what it's like having something taken from you," and what this really means, mitchell being a character in the game who expresses his absence of authority to the player.

then think about how benny programs yes man to obey his every command, but as an npc and without real choice lacking the foresight the game doesn't give him to make it so that yes man responds only to him, so the game waylays benny and allows for the player to encounter yes man and use him for whatever ends he wants.

the legion represents dictatorial, criminal illusion authority over the game world, hence the crucifixions of the enemies, tied to the cross of space and time beyond game world's pseudo-clock, the npc's lack of free will expressed as tied to the cross. then on the other side, the ncr, which is democratic control over the game world, government control, also an illusion, mired in bureaucracy ie the idea of mathematically governing the game world through democracy made manifest as a numbers game.

Fallout 3 did run fine when it was new, but soft/hardware advances changed that.

I guess if you chose factions based solely on the quests they offer.
You're supposed to chose a faction based on the belief that they're the best for Mojave, or at least most to your liking.

I really liked Fallout 3 because it was my first Fallout and it was one of the first games where it made me feel like I was making a difference in npcs' lives by going around and cleaning up the wasteland and overall being a good samaritan. And what made it even better was once you fully beat the game, it didn't just end, it continued and let you keep playing .But yeah, New Vegas is easily the best Fallout overall. Plus you could see the effect you were making throughout the rest of the game on the npcs. So the world felt more real. It was also much harder and I had some of the most memorable battles trying to fight really strong enemies. And your actions were deeper and had more consequences than Fallout 3. I just wished they let you keep playing after the game ends like in Fallout 3. That would have been incredible.

I also started with Fallout 3. Tried going back to it after New Vegas. But I just can't play F3 for more than 10 minutes.
Which honestly kind of a shame, cause Fallout 3 was pretty good. Had some great side quests and The Pitt and Point Lookout were great.

I love Fallout but this game was so boring that once I got to Good Neighbor I couldn't keep going. There's nothing really going on and the voice acting is terrible. No one really feels like they're really living in that world, they just sound like random people off the street irl having fun voicing a video game character. No one really takes anything seriously, they're all trying to act zany but it's just so hard to listen to and its not funny.

Then you just run the game via the NVSE option in Fallout Mod Manager. After I installed these my crashes in the base game were reduced from once in every 90 minutes to once in every 12 hours and I was able to actually enable autosaves, which used to corrupt themselves 75% of the time. Honest Hearts used to crash every 20 minutes and now it doesn't crash at all.

If RAGE 2 doesn't get too much better I might just reinstall New Vegas and try it on pc. Most of my playthroughs have been on Xbox 360 so it will be nice to have something prettier with better performance. Do you have any ENBs to recommend? I like bright orange deserts but realistic enough that it doesn't look like a cartoon. Maybe even a texture pack?

One reason I love New Vegas far more than the other 3-d games:. How they handled power armor. I actually feel like I've accomplished something when I get power armor in New Vegas. I also make sure to to go straight for Veronica and then the Hidden Bunker. I try to get Power Armor at as low a level as possible and with doing as little as possible in any other quest. I love that the game lets me do this.

You'll love Fallout 2 even more than.
You can get power armor within the first 10 minutes with a little bit of save scumming.
