Yea Forums, please
>Recurring antagonist is treated like a serious threat throughout the game
>their win/loss record makes them look like a little bitch
To be fair, you weren't the one fighting, they were.
FF XV does that a lot
This trend is bad game design. There shouldn't be unwinnable battles. Every battle in the game should allow you to win even if for story reasons they want the bad guy to look really strong
>Boss fight is fucking brutal and destroys unprepared players
>Cutscene pretends it was easy shit
>boss fight absolutely destroys you
>haha it must be one of those "you gotta lose ones"
>its not
新しいゲーム
Disgaea 1 did this for me. Midboss was the only challenging boss in the story, everything else was a walk in the park.
>haha he barely put up a fight!
>Boss fight is extremely hard
>Characters mock the boss for being a pushover
Haha...
Unironically, Xenoblade Chronicles 2
>game puts you up against a tough enemy
>if you lose the story continues
>but you can beat them and progress regardless
Except this shit leads to bosses who keep losing like in a Saturday cartoon or the game letting you win but making the character lose one second later during the cutscene.
A single unwinnable battle in an RPG is okay imo.
>if you win the battle, the boss blows himself up killing your party and leading to a gameover
>you can only proceed by losing
>the game doesn't tell you this
worst feel
>Win unwinnable boss fight
>"HAHA NO FAGGOT LET'S GO AGAIN"
>Battle starts back up
Xenoblade 2
Any Kiseki.
I actually enjoy that feel, because eventually doing it feels that much better.
>boss fight is incredibly hard
>try to effectively use items to survive
>turns out it's unwinnable and you just wasted so many items for no reason
Literally every JRPG
for me it was armstrong in mgr dlc
holy fuck that fight deserves to die
You abused Gater, didn't you?
>FF XV does that a lot
FFXV had bosses like that?
>gameplay protag
>can glide at sanic speeds and stun lock enemies
>cutscene protag
>slowly runs everywhere and has the reaction time of a toddler when bosses run away
I
fuck
ing
hate this
shit
I went out of my way to avoid Gater, aside from one match against ToadMan V3 when I had an Aqua Style.
Gater is bad against PharaohMan anyway because of his coffins.
I don't mind boss fights where the boss is made tougher than normal and it's incredibly likely that you'll lose, but you can still beat them if you're good.
TWEWY had some fights like that.
>its an unwinnable fight
>boss hp hit 0
>a cutscene play were the boss go : "not bad" or look wounded
>still kick your ass cause the plot demand that he beat you
fuck this
Gater/PA's are only good for S Ranking an opponent to get their chips. That is the only real reason why you would use them.
DMC V did this, how the fuck Dante couldn't reach Urizen before he ate the fruit? He can teleport! Same when V stabs Urizen with his Kane to become Vergil again
Dragon Ball Legends
Dante wants to see his bro again so I think a pic related excuse works, but yeah both those scenes would be better if Dante simply realized it a litte later and attempts to ground trick. For a series as unabashedly video gamey as DMC, they sure do weirdly strict things in cutscenes, like Dante never uses Royalguard in a cutscene or a weapon other than his defaults outside of an item get cutscene.
This is the worst shit.
came here to post this
the amount of times this game whips straight from a boring boss fight into "oh no we're being beat" is absurd
How hard is it to balance you boss fights' difficulty to mirror the actual threat they represent?
>unwinnable boss fight
>actually wins
>game screen freezes
OI POIYRA, LOOKS LIKE WE GET TO FIGHT JIN OR LITERALLY ANYONE EVER
its more like Back In The Day for the average game nobody truly gave a shit if the gameplay matched the writing until a bunch of grouchy game critics started screaming Ludonarrative Dissonance at developers, and now the designers and the writers actually think about what happens before during and after a cutscene, or at least more than they used to. usually.
The developers should learn how to freeza.
Basically, if you defeat the guy that you was supposed to lose, or at least wanted to make it look strong, then you throw the ol "nice little monkey, but this is not my full power!"
>Bring boss down to 1 HP
>They suddenly restore all 40 of their health bars on the spot and begin phase 2
For unwinnable battles I think it's better when you literally do 0 fucking damage or really low damage to the opponent and your main objective is to run.
It's mostly bad design because it's fairly difficult to show that the boss is unkillable without being punishing.
Either the boss erase you in two hits or you'll spend 45 minutes fighting him to no end.
I'll rather have a boss fight I can possibly win with I try hard but the outcome of winning should be the boss calling reinforcement as tough looking as him.
I wish more games had a new game plus mode where you fuck up an unwinnable boss early that something more sinister replaces him.
Please any games like this?
>destroy boss
>get fuck in cutscene
fuck kingdom hearts
>boss beats you up in a cutscene before the fight
>boss beats you up in a cutscene after the fight
>the boss fight is easy
>even after you power up later to be significantly stronger than him, he still beats you up in the cutscene before the rematch
WWW Area has the best post endgame area music in the series.
>Boss battle is based on how many total attacks he gets instead of damage
>Losing a difficult boss fight is the path to the bad ending
>The game doesn't tell you this
same. battles where you have to survive being killed for a certain time have their own unique challenge and reward and wont piss be off for being unwinable
in kh winning doesn't mean victory, it means you get the privilege of watching a cutscene of the antagonist doing whatever they were planning on doing if you weren't there.
I remember how Tales of Legendia did the unwinnable fights.
Basically after the boss loses a certain amount of HP he just uses an ultimate technique with no windup and then the boss ends
Megaman X1 did a decent unwinnable fight with Vile
Sounds reasonable. Beatrix in Final Fantasy IX did the same thing, kind of, though it was still a little frustrating.
>Focus Punch Grovyle in the dick
>Cutscene
>He defeats the whole team in a single strike
>He doesn't even have AOE moves
It would have been nice to be able to beat her one friggin' time, at least.
Not allowed. She has to be the ultimate, unbeatable warrior who is an army unto herself yet also unparalleled at commanding troops with charisma enough that everyone loves her while at the same time being a pure, bashful woman. I wonder how much one of the writers had to force her until everyone else just gave up resisting out of pure annoyance.
That's because you're an adult playing a game made for children.
>journal says he "isn't good at fighting"
