depends if you like soul or not
Soulless
My gameboy version got lost by friend and I’m pretty much a lazy bum when I comes to emulating. Bought it for about 27 bucks and it lacks that old sprite charm but it’s ok if you really want to scratch that M&L itch.
Soulless gets thrown around a lot but this a legitimate example of a soulless game. The other mode sucks too so don't even bother.
This one is slightly harder than the originals but if you don't care about that just get the originals
>This one is slightly harder than the originals
Is this true? I heard that they made it easier
wow. That's awful
>censored
>Kong
>skeleton
I played both and honestly prefer the artstyle on this one. The differences aren't very noticeable gameplay wise

Disregarding the soul vs. soulless meme, since both versions were products made to make money, the remake of Superstar Saga is superior. It simply has more content. I also personally liked the music more, and the map helps. I also think the BIS remake is better, too, though I can see why you'd disagree.
From what I understand, the biggest drawback to it is how much they changed the original art style of the game to fit with Modern Mario/M&L style
Outside of that it's pretty much the same game, but with the overworld moves made a lot easier and faster to perform, even including the touch shortcuts from Paper Jam.
If you love how the original game looks and can tolerate needing to change both the action button command and the leading bro to perform overworld stuff, play the original
If you'd rather the overworld stuff not be a drag and can tolerate (or enjoy) the modern artstyle, play the 3ds one
Right looks better except for the koopa sprites
Honestly SSS DX just looks better. A good portion of the sprites look better outside of some questionable design choices, and you'd have to be retarded to tell me Stardust Fields doesn't look fucking amazing this time around.
It has some neat updates from the rest of the series and it's slightly more balanced, but if you want the original's aesthetic is a lot worse in the remake, so I'd say play the GBA game first
Its better than the original. Autists will tell you otherwise because you no longer see a shitty skeleton or a magikoopa for a few seconds out of a 15-20 hour long game. It also has more content. Ignore those posts.
Numale soulless faggots prefer the remake
They got rid of the menu animation where Mario and Luigi are shoving each other back and forth when you select between them. It's literally soulless.
But honestly, it's pretty much the same(or slightly better) game experience. Plus there's Bowser's Minions.
Characters were better on GBA, everything else is better about the remake. Fair?
>everything
The soundtrack was also butchered.

Also the GBA just overall looks better. Simplistic 2D sprites with nice colors > pseudo-3D NSMBU shit
I'm trying to chug through PiT but I end up putting down for weeks at the time. Should I just skip it brehs?
>pseudo-3D
Everything in the game aside from Cackletta's Soul is 2D. Are you retarded?
Skip it. The only worthwhile M&L games are SSS and BIS.
The original is a bit too easy. This one fixes the enemy stats.
Imagine caring about any of the Mario & Luigi games when Tomato Adventure exists
DT is pretty good, although definitely inferior to SSS and BIS. DT’s only major flaw is that the gyro controls during the giant Luigi fights are literally non-functional.
I'd argue that another huge flaw with DT is how derivative it is of SSS and BIS.
>arrive in foreign land
>travel through most parts of world one-by-one
>have short moments where you go into 2D sections, followed by one giant 2D section after beating the 3D area's boss
>beat major boss
>find out there are magic items that must be collected to beat villain
>backtrack through all the worlds again to collect them + one world you haven't been to
>last world + last world 2D section
The story's structure and pacing feels like a longer and more exhausting Superstar Saga, and the game in general has trouble finding original characters to use and ends up retreading old ground and bringing back characters like Popple and Broque Monsieur for no reason, plus the Beans (the characters, not the literal underground beans). The constant 2D sections don't really do much better or different from BIS's, either.
Plus it fucks over Antasma, who could have been a very interesting villain, in favor of making everything about Bowser.
I've played both. Believe it or not the remake is actually harder than the original because they fixed the things that made the original broken (the most obvious example is the mush badge). In my opinion, the broken aspects made the original way more enjoyable. The original has more expressive sprites also, and some sprites are straight up changed to be more generic.
Apart from that, it's an improvement graphically with a mode that I think some people liked but I didn't find it enjoyable.
Just play the original, it didn't need a remake.
I appreciate when the rpg's make bowser a threat and not the joke he's usually treated as. Paper Mario 64 shows him really well
It's good.
But the original is free to emulate.
So is the remake, through Citra.
I would say the original. It has much more of a unique style while the remake tries to be more generic and reuse as many assets as possible. Original has faster, snappier gameplay and better music too.
