It's from a defect in the printing. If there's no disc rot evidence at this point and you maintain your discs it shouldn't be a problem.

how do you maintain them?

Keep them clean, keep them dry, put them in a nice case and don't break them like an idiot getting them in and out of the case

There are always copies that are faulty and die fast

"Disc rot" is a myth that only retards with no understanding of how physical media works fall for. "Disc rot" is really just the reflective backing degrading. Without that reflective backing the laser can't get a read on the data layer but that doesn't mean the data is gone, literally any instance of "rot" can be fixed by reapplying a reflective layer to the top of the disc.

Retards don't take care of their games and blame it on this made up disc rot.

Kek, I have a CD lying around here which I bough in '95 or so and it is still in pristine condition. I have found old magazine discs that still work flawlessly. Hell, in my car I have a CD I BURNT in 2007 that is still working. And it has been sitting in my car night and day, all seasons for over ten years now.

People who complain about disc rot are those who leave their discs outside of their cases, let them get scratched and dusty, probably spill mndew on them and leave them in a sunny place.

Both of those have mods to read games off of a SD card, but they are not really worth it unless you are uber autistic about playing on original hardware

I want you to go through and verify your entire gamecube collection. I guarantee if you have a decent sized collection you'll have at least one rotting disc because of the shitty adhesive layer on those.
