Emma Watson's performance really showed she has no fucking idea how to be anything but Hermione, and her singing was atrocious. They absolutely butchered some of the jokes and dialogue from the original, and the whole plague backstory and Lafoe being gay was just fucking weird.

Luke Evans really fucking nailed Gaston though. He does a great job playing the Chad of all Chads, and even if his singing was not as amazing as the opera singer who did original Gaston, it was still damn impressive.

It wasn't anything particularly special as a standalone movie, but it at least justified its existence by being more of a sequel to the original than a direct 1-to-1 remake like most of the other live action remakes, and it did it without undermining the original story like the live action Maleficent did.
