Basically all you do is enter an arena-like map, find the monster, and press attack until it stops moving. Monster Hunter is pretty much the same but requires more thinking.

battlepass is "earn rewards for playing" kind of cash grab, you can earn a tiny bit of rewards for free, emotes or weapon skins or whatever, but you need to buy in ($5 or $15, or whatever) in order to earn the PREMIUM battlepass shit, like character skins and lootboxes or whatever's listed.
This is a system to cover both the "constant playerbase" and "scalping wallets" aspects games have to deal with. If you buy the premium pass, then you have sunk-cost of NEEDING to play to earn those rewards, whereas if you just like playing you'll see all those REWARDS, you just need to buy in!

I personally think this is bullshit and the servers aren't full, and they're just setting the "max" limit to some bullshit number, or they randomly make people wait.
They're just trying to make the game look like it's busy by making you wait for no reason.

Don't forget how we'll probably end up with everything being an early access release we stream from monthly paid cloud services in the future.

On one hand, for people that do play a game alot, say you like to play Paladins (like I do) and just play for hours over the course of their battlepass season, then it's $5 for potentially 2 or 3 skins that you might like and some of their shit lootboxes or sprays and shit, maybe a game announcer voice which might be cool.
Now, I haven't seen any skins that I liked in their passes, but for people with less self-control (kids) then it's like OH MAN I WANT ALL THESE I JUST NEED TO GIVE THEM MONEY! Followed 3 months later by the same urge, and the shown fact that a person that spends even once, no matter how much they paid, are insanely more likely to spend again, and not just on the frugal value.
They're predatory practices. It's bad in who they target with them and the extent that they do it.

I remember playing some sort of alpha or beta of this. You guys know that soul vs souless meme? This is the apex of it. It's such a hollow representation of Monster Hunter. It also has SJW shit in it for some reason. In your settings you can "set" the gender the your characters.
Aside from the political bullshit, the weapon combos felt repetitive, and

At least the faces in MHW aren't whatever stockpile Fortnite pulled from, that hard angle jawline, no nuanced flatface in dauntless is just ugly.
I'm not a fan of the art style at all, it looks like something pre-packaged from the engine that people can slap together. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope I'm not, otherwise that means they wasted time and money on making it look bland as hell.

Dauntless was alright. I played it for like a week back in closed beta but I could see kids enjoying it for a while. Character models are hot garbage though, and lots of monsters are palette swaps

Seems like these chain blades are the only unique weapons in the game besides what appears to be two shotguns that I haven't unlocked yet.
They make you teleport dash instead of roll and you can swing them from far away at the cost of stamina.
They also let you hook things and move towards them.

Basic mechanics-wise it's a literal clone of MH, I forgot if MH4 did combat arts first or Toukiden did. Large monster variety is rather lacking, NPC AI is so good they'll end up carrying you most of the time if you're a shitter and top tier waifu.

That's because they are. The game has an over-reliance on i-frames because the Dauntless devs couldn't be bothered to actually implement a combat system that has depth.

Currently MHW on PC is another drought, nothing new to do beside casual picking up on monsters bullying for fun and crown farming until Arch Niggergante comes out next month and then again at all until Iceborne, hoping that on PC it won't be delayed because otherwise it will be literally 6+ months of no content for the PC
Dauntless is banking on Capcom delayed schedules for PC to get people in who wants a monhun fix but have nothing to do anymore on MHW

Probably from researching BOTW developers saying that they chose the style because Windwaker has aged better due to opting for unrealistic cell shaded look rather than realism. Fortnite characters look fine; even without the context of time those characters look fine. Dauntless characters look like fucking shit and worse, they have no goddamn personality to off-set how fucking awful they look unlike a Genndy Tartakovsky cartoon.

You're allowed to take the low poly, easy to model route if your output is Fortnite characters, and the criteria for that is that is simply that they're fuckable. Dauntless just has absolutely zero redeeming features.

In short the turning movement when sheathed was more stiff than moving around with a weapon unsheathed, whether you were running or walking. A good example would be rotating around in a circle. At least the part that matters more for fighting isn't as rough, but otherwise it's noticeable.

Probably digressed a bit, but yeah I haven't touched SSD in a good while and I'll probably have to play around a bit to see what you might mean. Still have some good memories of it.

Anyone else experienced a bug where you get brought back to the beginning of the game after a hunt? The intro cutscene plays and all your quests get erased. Although you can fix it by restarting the game I'd rather wait for the game to get more stable and not have scary bugs like these or better yet, play a better game.

Quests focus on hunting a single large monster using third person action melee/ranged combat where you have to use i-frames to dodge attacks the monster throws out until you eventually fell the beast.

I can't really think of anything quite like what you're describing and that's actually a pretty decent premise for a game.

Played the beta way back when out of curiosity. It looks like they improved jackshit.

Yeah it's something that was always in the back of my head ever since I first played that mega flop Evolve. I can imagine like say one stage would be an aerial level across a massive valley where all of your ride airships with a playstyle akin to Guns of Icarus. It'd require tons of coordination from everybody to even set-up traps, simultaneous assaults, and even one dude distracting the monster alone.

And beyond that you can expand the mechanics to the sea or land or in an urban area etc.
