It's less about "politics" (despite what /vpol/ may tell you) and more about being a young person lost at sea. It ultimately puts responsibility on certain political ideologies for creating the circumstances the characters find themselves in, but for 95% of the game you'll just be interacting with characters and learning about why they are the way they are.

That said, if you can't relate to the main character, who's kind of a cunt, it'll be rough.

Imagine playing Persona except instead of hanging with your friends some days and killing monsters other days, the plot is hanging with your friends for 8 months with some weird dreams, and just right in the end the monster appears, but you just talk to them and try to look intimidating, and it lets you go. And everyone acts like nothing happened.
All im saying is that the story is kinda empty for the most part even if there are tidbits here and there of something darker going on, its actually just Mae hanging out until the cult appears.

The story is only good if you're part of the extremely small minority of people who actually emphasize with the main character instead of disliking her.

The only characters I liked were her parents, aunt, the bear, crow, and croc. Game had a very cozy atmosphere, boring gameplay, good sound design, pointless dream scenes, and it ended just as it was getting interesting.

The story didn't really feel like it was going anywhere to me, I didn't find the characters very relatable, and it just felt like I was playing a visual novel where I could walk and jump around.

Sort of. It's a fangame called Love in the Woods and it's been in production pretty much since NITW came out, but most of the devs were 16 or 17 years old and had no experience. One of the programmers for NITW was on board for a while but the fanbase aggravated him enough that he just up and left at some point. There's a lot of problems with the development and hardly anybody on the team wants to acknowledge them let alone fix them. Fun fact: 33% of the total writing has been done in the past month by the new guy.

You are correct in your evaluation that the discord is a dumpster fire. As for progress, look at what I said in my previous post, 33% of the writing was done in the past month. As for the other 67% most of it will likely be rewritten or scrapped. The project desperately needs new blood to come work on it but it's hard due to the fact that NITW is only getting older and hardly anybody talented will want to work on it, and the dev team are too prideful to let new people in out of fear of being upstaged.

There's also a discord but it's garbage. Sometimes screenshots and other updates get posted there though. Can't have a patreon because the NITW devs told us no. They did approve of the game as a free project though.
Everything except maybe programmers but we could probably use a few more of those as well if they're talented in other areas. Background and character artists would be appreciated and so would somebody with real musical talent but the biggest area we're lacking is in writers. All but one of the writers practically refuse to write while insisting that their vision must not be impeded, despite that vision not being written anywhere you could conveniently check. Those writers are also young and inexperienced to the point where the Gregg+Angus route literally does not have any conflict at all.

It has really interesting dream sequences and supernatural mysteries wedged between slice-of-life drama. I was really into it while it was building up.

It's a shame that the climax ended up being "lol fuck boomers and also I have mental illnesses" instead of delving deeper into the other stuff

Some members of the team are in favor of exploring the consequences of the disappearance of the cult and how that effects Possum Springs and Mae and friends, while others are dead set on having no main plot and just having the player go on dates with their animal of choice and everything being exactly the way it was before the cult stuff in NITW. What do you guys think?

I thought the ending was kind of abrupt. It was like they had uncovered a whole new branch of the conflict and the terrifying idea that they might not be able to really trust anyone in town now, but they just kind of bury it all and go out for dinner.

I found the characters to be for the most part unlikable and the gameplay was a slog. I stopped playing around the time you had to hunt ghosts.

I remember when people said this would be "the next Undertale" and it never was.
I remember that was said about a lot of things, even the literal next Undertale in Deltarune, and they never were.

Gameplay saved for the pc minigame was almost non existent, and the final act was meh.

Fuck what a fucking boring game, start thinking it's some puzzle/point&click hybrid with some platformer to find out it's just a daily life in a rust belt city with not even one good charachter, you'll go around the city talking to everyone every day for them to just say trivial things no one cares about. I found myself hoping the story would start with every passing day to find out that of the ~8 hours of game it starts and abruptly concludes the last hour, with the other seven being pointless slice of life that i don't know who even tries to appeal to.

The meme tier writing kind of got a bit in your face after a while. Visually cozy though

the script needed like 30 more revisions before it would have been good, it was clearly a first draft that virtually nobody edited

It proudly declares that unhealthy coping mechanisms are fine because it makes you feel good for a few minutes

On a more serious note, the current Yea Forums is still nu-Yea Forums - as normie and npc dumb as it can get.

I did enjoy it. It has a nice artstyle, good music, and a better story than I think people give it credit for. Then again, I'm a huge faggot so the kind plot appealed to me. I went in blind with no expectations, and was pleasantly surprised.

That being said, it's barely a video game. More like a visual novel. I can understand why most people dislike it, even if I don't necessarily agree. I also don't approve of all the furfags that latched onto it.

Solid 6-7/10 experience, not adjusted for any kind of game journalist bonus. If you like it, check out pic related.
