Yeah its called a PBR and my grandpa was a gunner on those things during the war. They were fast and maneuverable but poorly armored so going to slow could be dangerous.

There were four factions/teams on two sides. US/Army of South Vietnam on one, NVA/VC on the other, with a mix of maps representing different battles/campaigns.
The Hue map was fun as shit.

Yeah I am a bit hyped for '83 but they didn't give us many details. I always wanted a cold war BF, but seeing how they are handling the series now, its probably for the better that they never try.

there's no reason to buy a new Battlefield Vietnam when we already have a great Vietnam game with RS2. I'll probably never play a battlefield game again being that there are already way better tactical(ish) shooters available on PC. Modern setting? Squad/ARMA III. WWII? Post Scriptum/RO2 (unfortunately basically dead). Vietnam? RS2. No need for Battlefield on PC anymore

I really like the idea of a game with asymmetrical capabilities. Roleplaying a revolution sounds fun. Using stealth and hit and run tactics to counter superior firepower.

It pisses me off to no end when they give women rolls that they didn't have in real life in these games. They probably processed the cost of doing models, animations, customization and voice work for female soldiers which would benefit only two factions. It would be a neat addition but it cannot really justify the price. I remember the devs really considered to redo the voice work for the vietnamese but the cost was stupidly high and they'd rather spend it on developing new weapons and maps instead.

In another one he was sent out to counter snipe a female sniper who was plucking off patrols. She was apparently one of the best snipers the cong had.

A lot of vietnamese women during the war had supports roles carrying shit, cooking, nursing and doing various other useful stuffs on a battlefield. A sizeable number of them also participated heavily in combats but they were a minority. If Dice wants to include female vietnamese soldiers, I wouldn't bat an eye as that would be historically accurate.

What isn't historically accurate is female soldiers on the american army during the Vietnam war. Or during WW2, black soldiers on the german army or female soldier in the american and british army. That's the thing that pisses me off as I study history and the question of representation is heavily discussed within academics. Female and blacks had their places in the front line during WW2. A lot of women were enrolled in the Red Army with a combat role (sniper, infantry, cavalry and artillery). Likewise, chinese women fighting for the communists against the japanese wasn't unheard off. Blacks had complete segregated regiments in the US army that saw as much combat as white regiments. The US army also had a complete regiment constituted of japanese-american that were deep in battles for most of the war (something like 80% rate of casualty iirc).

Dice could have EASILY went the higher route and focus their games on these real soldiers. It would have been historically accurate, it would have made an interesting setting for most of them and, it would have promoted their stance on social representation in gaming. But they didn't. They went for the laziest route and spat on the memory of all these peoples that are still struggling to make their stories heard.

It gets a couple thousand people a day, which is enough to fill plenty of servers. Its great that those servers also tend to be filled with adults who are interested in the same niche you are so its a much better community to play with than 70,000 randos that are trying to play the game like CoD.
