Is the answer to this question as simple as to blame everything on the higher and still rising demand for videogames, production/marketing campaign costs, capitalism, greed and the endless pursuit of profit? By that I mean the clear attempt at making standardized products and pleasing to a wide number of people at once instead of catering to a limited fanbase with a more 'polished' product. Or how marketers don't hesitate to exploit the dead angles/biases from out brains in order to make us become more and more consumerist, or even change us into degenerate gamblers with gacha type games. Which are very popular. Can we truly blame the "masses", especially the younger ones, falling so easily for these tricks when some of the boomers didn't take the time to properly educate them on the matter? Paid DLCs, censorship, 'no mods policies', uncompleted releases, pre-order bonuses or games as a service are things perfectly natural for someone aged under 15 these days, and they're having a good time creating fun memories with their friends on such platforms since they don't know better. Fortunately piracy and emulators still exist and are somewhat popular among third-worlders or poorfags who couldn't enjoy games otherwise , but any western zoomer will be scared of pirating for example. How did things get this bad?
Don't get me wrong, I still manage to enjoy some of the more recent videogames entries here and there. Also, I'm not a communist or socialist because that would be retarded. And I'm not getting old enough to get bored of entertainment, at least not yet. But what went wrong? Please try not to devolve in consolewarfaggottry, soul/soulless, west/vs east posting etc. Let's try to keep the discussion civil and pinpoint how things progressively got worse, at least from a consumer point of view.
