Most people who played WoW back then where not old enough to have played Everquest as well as other much more grind and challenging MMOs and thus the idea of having to work with more than 3 other players at a giving time was so foreign to them and gave the illusion of being challenging. Vanilla WoW was the easy mode of MMOs the fact you could solo your way to max level was mind blowing me me.

I predict 6 months, of vanilla being more popular than retail before you see a huge drop off similar to what you see with every modern mmo release. Vanilla WoW doesn't have the sandbox game play and massive overhauls between OSRC and RS3 to keep it as popular as retail.

I can't decide between Warlock and Mage. I want to play an orc and I like the uniqueness of warlocks have but I leveled to 60 as an as one on a private server a few years ago. Mages look like a lot of fun but I would hate to compete with 7 others for raid gear.

My nigga. I hope it will be. Last I saw, it still looked so early in development that it's difficult to tell. Looks like it could be really cool though, especially since late-vanilla WoW was my first MMO, so the older style MMO system would be pretty new to me (outside of fucking around for a couple hours of P99 and DAoC).

I levelled an orc enhancement shaman to 60 on Nostalrius and there was a LOT of competition
For a good long while you'll be competing with rogues, hunters, druids and other shaman for leather loot as well as warriors for two-handers (looking at you, Corpsemaker)
It gets easier once you start progressing towards gearing up with mail although there's still hunters and your fellow shaman to think about

every class has cometition for gear since you wear what gives you the best stats (eg shamans compete for all spell gear not just mail). I guess shamans do have a minor advantage there of only really wanting spell mail and shields. The only exception to this was warriors with plat but now everyone knows they're op they'll have competition with themselves.

Reason being that I've played Alliance for most of my time in WoW, but I enjoy both factions about equally, so I'd like to spend more time on Horde this time around. Hunter because it's a solo class that's comfy to cruise on, mage because it's nostalgic for me, or priest if I ever do plan to do major group content. If not Horde, I'll make a human warlock. Human because only two Alliances races can play warlock, and I despise gnomes, and warlock because it's just generally a fun class.
