That's what I've been thinking honestly since it seems the safest.
I'd like to at least try some of the older stuff before Shadowbringer is out. At the very least Alexander looks sick as hell and I want to see some timestop stuff/see some lore. I will definitely be honest though when I find a group. I tend to listen pretty well it's just sometimes overwhelming when it's the first time.
For a total beginner would DPS or tank be better to try the older raids? I've got DRG and DRK that I'm leveling consistently so those would be my choices. With the raids only needing a few tanks but a lot of DPS I assume it'd be easier to queue as DPS for once.

Binding Coil had you going through a pretty massive raid and while it was still split into pieces like omega it felt a lot more like a massive dungeon than literal instanced encounters.

HW was best imo with alexander being a colossal giant that you enter in the foot and fight you way up to the platform on its head where you fight the final boss.

SB took all that away and I hope they go back to the old style in shadowbringers

Dark Knight is completely revamped into a scythe wielding damage dealer that uses dark and enfeebling magic based around Souleater and a Bloodletting burst window.
Rune Fencer is added to replace DRK as the greatsword tank. All DRK players automatically unlock RUN at the current level their DRK is.
Blue Mage undergoes a radical redesign to bring it more in line with it's FFXI version. Dual wields swords, BLU spells are overhauled to be learned in a series of narrative quests from 1-80. BLUs get an EXP boost for the job until 70. Autoattacks are fast and skills build up a Blue Spell meter to create what are basically skillchains.
Summoner and Scholar are split from each other. Summoner is now completely focused on Summons for damage, and Summons have been redesigned visually to be much more like XI. No stupid fucking Egi models anymore. Fenrir is your 80 summon and becomes your main summon. Ifrit, Garuda and Titan are all secondary permanent summons that offer unique buffs that you rotate them out for.
Black Mages get Meteor. 8 second cast time but has the highest potency in the game at 3500. Two minute cooldown. Ley Lines are now just a buff and not something you need to stand in, 60 second cooldown and 10% instead of 90s and 15%.
Dragoons get shafted this expansion. I'm so sorry.

Syrcus Tower is extremely poorly made and undertuned. It's weak and you don't really see any mechanics in it anymore (and frankly that was possible even in ARR on a good day). It's just extremely boring because of how easy it is, even for a 24-man.

this requires actively trying to manipulate which mana is higher, and depending on procs etc, changes how you played from before.
