All she's interested in is either learning about herself or causing chaos between herself Cloud and Tifa without acting on any of it.

She's a light hearted slightly layered mischief maker who clearly has feelings for Cloud, but they aren't as deep or as hungry like Tifa, which is why she relents every so often to involve her.

If she was still alive, i often wonder if she would have eventually stepped back for Tifa and Cloud to be together canonically, or if she would have just took him for herself later. But you get plenty of build up and clarification by the game that Aerith and Cloud are basically doomed star crossed lovers to be.

If you want to beat the game under level 27 without using items and equipment, you'll be relying on her limit breaks entirely for healing. FF7 becomes a game about mixing drugs to keep her and yuffie on different levels of speed and dope to manipulate their limit gains.

So her role kind of is to be the girl you get with after the love triangle falls apart. It also makes the “unreliable narrator” twist more than just them writing themselves out of a hole.

I think it’s clear the writers gave Seph a way to fuck with Cloud’s brainsk Seph could get his Black Materia without raising the “why not just kill ‘em” question. So it needed resolution and it would feel hollow without the emotional connection between Tifa and Cloud.

Aeris determined and strong-willed and does whatever the hell she wants. She is a free spirit and an embodiment of nature, like the purest flower-power child of the sixties. She is practically a fertility goddess with her ability to make plants grow from dead soil. She had a horrible childhood being tortured in a lab and seeing her mother killed in front of her, but she has the strength to keep smiling and loving life, even in the darkest and nastiest place in the world. She is literally the perfect woman and the fact that they killed her makes me want to burn down the fucking world

He acts completely different after Tifa goes into the Lifestream to literally piece his REAL memories back together. And as for Cloud's disposition towards Aerith over Tifa, it's the same thing; he feels deeply attracted to her because of Zack's memories/feelings for her. Which is why it's organic to date her in the Golden Saucer, and later fuck Tifa's brains out under the Highwind after he is back to normal.

Zack's memories are never implied to be present in Cloud in any capacity. He does not remember Zack's parents, he has zero attachment to Aerith until he spends time with her, and even his swordsmanship is implied to be his own unique style, if Before Crisis is anything to do by. Everything that Cloud self-inserts as Zack in is something he was either told about or actually there for, and it's all crafted in a way that preserves the self-image crated by his own sub-conscious (with a helping hand of Jenova Cell fuckery.)

In fact, the mission at Nibelheim is something Cloud remembers as his first mission 1st Class SOLDIER, when Zack at that point had undergone several within that rank by then. TIFA'S memories, however, are used to craft the personality Disc 1 Cloud has, and nothing from any piece of Compilation media contradicts this. specifically because the Jenova cells in his body read her memories when she found him at the train station, Cloud never had any of Zack's personality, memories, or preferences. Everything beyond what was required for Sephiroth's reunion was a product of his own mind (with Tifa's memories providing a context to build around) experiences, and ideal self-image.

I think the game mentions that as a result of the Jenovah cells, he does actually inherit Zack's memories during the Nibelheim Incident as it was crucial that Zack be phased out in order for his whole cover story to work. The Jenovah cells basically facilitate it as its ultimately in her/Sephiroth's interest for Cloud to keep up this charade.

The problem with your headcanon is that it requires more than just Zack's confidence to transfer over; it requires his upbeat personality that came as a result of the people in his life that inspired him, even if they weren't everything he hoped they'd be.

Cloud's newfound confidence only existed because the backstory his mind crafted around his ideal self-image (which actually included body language that Zack directly coached him in back when he was alive,) required it. It's literally his childhood propensity for overcompensation, only now with a strength and """backstory""" to back up his dickish bravado.

Even after he gets his true memories back, he really hasn't changed all that much on a surface level; he now just has self-awareness and faith in himself and his allies, but he was still more than capable of being a bit of a dick if the situation required it.

I'll just say that Jenova cells fucked with Cloud's memories and made him think he was the 1st class SOLDIER instead of Zack.

She doesn't know he never made it into SOLDIER. She takes him at his word that he was. She only really starts doubting him in Kalm during the retelling of the flashback. Before that, it was just the inconsistency of him telling her that they hadn't seen each other in five years (Nibelheim Incident) when actually it had been seven years (promise at the well). Also, her own personal trauma of her past left here more than a little hazy about details enough that she gave him the benefit of the doubt.

They don't need to change anything really. It's amazing how almost two and a half decades later, the overarching story themes of a seemingly ridiculous dystopia are even more possible. A gigantic energy conglomerate owning the world and just dominating the poor and disenfranchised into submission, that future is a lot more clearly visible now than in 97.

From what I recall, Tifa wasn't sure of her own memories because Cloud so accurately recalled the incident. And she was afraid to ask because Cloud wasn't really mentally stable(that first flashback when he returns).

Too many people know about that twist, Cloud taking off the faceless grunt Shinra helmet and revealing he was always NPC-tier is probably no longer possible. Crisis Core ruined that for newer players.

She wanted to but thought he would have a psychotic break. And then the story events kept cockblocking her.

As a 39 year old boomer with a black-label FF7 that played it for the first time in the 90's, what you're describing is exactly how I feel.

They will ramp up the drama and make it all moody and ambient, and it will destroy the comedic value which is necessary to keep the game lighthearted between serious plot events. That emo cinematic flavor is just 2019 style and there's no getting around it. Brooding background music, dark colors and blue color filters, etc. It's impossible for them to capture the magic of FF7/8/9 again because that light, fluffy cinematic style is dead.

By the way, for those that don't know, 'black label' means an original release physical copy. All the PS1 2nd run editions had green labels. Only the 1st run were black with 'PlayStation' written up the side vertically. Green labels said 'Greatest Hits' or some shit. I honestly don't remember. It was 20 years ago.

....not that I recall? Genesis's conception and development was mostly Hideki Imaizumi (producer for Dirge, Crisis Core, and Dissidia) and Gackt himself. I think Nomura drew up the first character art for him that Gackt used in the secret ending of Dirge and the Redemption music video, but I don't think he had much to do with Genesis's development beyond that. Even his outfit in Crisis Core was modified from his Dirge outfit by someone else, IIRC. I have no idea who designed his sword.
