I'm not spoiling myself too much on the side-characters, but I'm going with the blue one because spears are cool. The fact they keep on bringing up "oh man the lord has a DARK SECRET don't tell anyone" makes me worry that it'll turn into snowflake edgy brooding bullshit, but spears are just too cool of a weapon, blue's the best colour, and I like the idea of a military-focused House.

she has the highest MAG growth in gba emblem and her luck and res are good. Her hp is as crap as every other mages and her defense is also paper thin. Skill is fair and Speed is tragically low but that can be fixed with save states or just feeding her speedwings. Any character can be good if you have the money, theres a Secret Shop late in the game that sells all the stat boosters.

Damn I knew a fujo artist was responsible for a lot of this but those are the gayest male characters I think I've ever seen in an FE other than Ike of course.

Yeah she's pretty bad since it takes a long time for her to play catch-up with your crew while everyone starts promoting during the isles. Roy support does make using bolting fun though lategame. Use her if you want, like the other user said.

If you get her A Support with Roy fast, it patches up her accuracy and she stops missing a lot. She becomes a one hit nuke with all that Mag. Still people generally agree Lugh is the superior mage.

How I tackle this map is rush with mounts to help lachesis -> sigurd, quan and ethlyn sneak pass general miniboss to seize first enemy castle. Then, seize second while getting lachesis to kill paragon ring miniboss (hard but satisfying). Lewyn and sylvia spawn when first castle is seized and rush to kill bargain ring brigand. Foot units help with first castle and then move to the right to prepare there. Return/Warp staff is real good here since it involves backtracking. I usually save those villages for poor people or Dew and warp them to the top left castle to go visit them

TL;DR - Devote like a hour or two to this long ass map and be prepared to use return and warp staves a lot. Next map is a lot faster and shorter which is nice

As for favorite overall FE... bit of a copout but whatever gives me the most replay value and extra content to experiment with casually. For all the shit fates gets, I like whatever stupid builds I can do with reclassing.
For a more competitive answer, probably 6 or 12 when I feel like playing for challenge on hard/lunatic reverse (10 is a runner up but only on normal mode)

A lot the male designs are terrible, but I like some of them, like the two main guys, doodoo, edgelord's servant guy, byleth, and I like most of the female designs.

Gameplay is the main thing i like about this series. Thats why 6, 12 and cq are my favorites

I do as well but they've been 0.5 for 5 with map design. Conquest still gives me mix feelings as late/endgame feels more like they did gimmicks for gimmicks sake instead of just making a good maps. Only map I can say I like during the last portion is the younger siblings maps and Ryoma/Gooron is okay

What do you think of gambits so far? I like how they're proven to be more than just a powerful attack, things like the lure tile and fire wall could give some interesting dynamic gameplay. Even more so if the enemy AI uses them cleverly.

I feel like they could bloat the combat desu like if we have to knock out an enemies 60 hp gambit before we can actually harm them
but Im glad it exists for the simple fact that when characters talk about how hard the wars been on the men or whatever it wont feel totally stupid because our characters are all alive and fine. Like the gambits will be taking a lot of damage and they fill out the field so it feel more like actual combat instead of 12 characters vs 20 mooks and 1 boss

Even if people shit on it for this exact reason, I like that SD doesnt focus on support conversations and pairings for endings like 6-10 did to smaller extents than 13-14. It rather focuses on worldbuilding and Marth's growth. The story/artstyle reminds me of when I use to play tabletop RPGs. Although I can see why they went back on it with FE12.
This is moreso my problem with FE13-15 + FEH making the characters never shut up and them having a quip/quote for almost anything but thats Maeda and his focus on making players want to connect with people more (for better or worse)

I like Skills but I do think they've been bloating the series hard since Awakening. Radiant Dawn had the perfect balance. Not an overbloated amount of skills and you had a limit on how many you can equip on a character plus scrolls were rare.

I think small innate class skills like Pierce and Lethality are fine. I just hate seeing all the like, "-3 damage for male allies within 2 spaces" Shit is annoying as fuck.

Skills really grew on me but i used to dislike them.

That's exactly what I mean by bloated. All the skills in Jugdral and Tellius games were meaningful effects that had a real impact. In Awakening and Fates, a lot of the skills are just related to stats with very specific conditions and it just makes the maps more annoying to play.

Skills, supports, forging, reclassing and so on all complicate the game that seems simple because you're probably a veteran but explaining how all that snowballs to a newer player is mind bogglingly. Combine that more and more arithmetics being altered by small effects with weapons and skills and each game changing formulas without telling so and you have people scratching their heads and creating confusion between vets and casual players.
Hell, even FEH which was "simplizd" for mobile is more complicated I find due how much a single unit can change based on how you build them and how people are starting to notice that skill descriptions are getting longer/bloated with multiple effects.
Sure its fun synergizing when you know what you're doing but its a far cry from being simple

Tldr; FE is more complicated than people will admit and its good for them to experiment rather than stay stagnate like they did with GBA (tbf, kaga leaving did set them back)

But when you think about it, support bonuses aren't that different. You have to be within 3 spaces to get the bonuses (sometimes less damage).

I know it has a fan translation, and I should play it at some point. But like I said, I'd have to go through shadow dragon first. 3H is right around the corner, and I'm already currently going through Order of The Crimson Arms.

The difference is that support bonuses are easily identified because 1.) Only your team gets them. You don't have to constantly check to see if enemies have some AoE skill effect. 2.) You know who is supported with who.

FE is simple in that all of your investments go into one of a few areas (supports, weapons, skills, exp). This adds a new resource and thats what i mean. Gambits are also quite similar to skills but handled and developed differently. Im just afraid it'll end upas bloat

Well it's limited use, and the Mov stat seems pretty low in this game, so it might not be as overbearing as it sounds. Hopefully there would be obvious drawbacks to going into battle with a full team using just a single gambit like that

Honestly, a lot of skills could just be turned into weapons. Swords, lances and axes need more distinction besides +/- 1 or 2 might and 5 or 10 hit
I miss FE10s support system. Why couldn't they just have 1-3 conversations with specific people and generic dialogue for everyone else?

While having high movement is always good since it means more options/map control, it's not as useful if the games keep focusing on rout heavy maps with reinforcements and less movement based ones like seize/escape/arrive

Fates actually did a somewhat good job on differentiating weapons. Whether or not they were balanced or useful in any way is a different story, but at least they tried. I don't think any game has gotten weapons correctly quite yet.

Mercie's set-up is interesting, at least. I'd like to see her perspective on the commoner/noble divide.

Having just replayed Shadow Dragon I can tell you that there's many times where they shy away from giving Marth more growth to keep it as similar as possible to FE1/3, but it really just screws over returning players' expectations.

Of the modern games, Echoes has my favorite art and fates has my favorite designs.
3 houses feels like they took the engine for the cut scenes, designed the characters in there, and then traced over them for the sprites.
