>GOG Galaxy
who gives a shit, its like the linux of launchers

The point is to have a single launcher that regroup all your games

>Install and launch any PC game you own, no matter the platform
It circumvents Steam DRM? Isn't that illegal?

>Do I still need to have other gaming clients installed on my PC?
>Yes, if you want to get access to any features specific to that platform, e.g. installing or auto-updating games, cloud saves, etc.

I'd think it just automates it, not necessarily circumvent it.

>don't care about cheevos
>don't have any friends
>don't care about tracking playtime
>don't want dig through some stupid launcher to start a game

pile of shortcut links on windows desktop master race

How can one company be so based.

Thanks GOG-chan, just signed up.

So it's
>have all clients installed
>you need all clients simultaneously running
>but you can now also go through our client to indirectly do things you could directly do from those clients already running
I mean, great? But for what purpose.

Not that anyone will use it, but I still want to know. How does it let you chat with friends on other platforms?

It worries me Galaxy will become their excuse to drop any support to non-Galaxy multiplayer.

It doesn't say you need to have those clients running.

I'm pretty sure that anything else can get them into deep shit from the other clients' legal teams.

Depends on how the API's work, I wouldn't know that. I can see there being a way to request an install without actually having the client open.

I don't know either, that's why I'm asking. But the entire point of Steam DRM is that you need to have the client running in order to play the games using it. I don't see how they can get around that in a way that doesn't violate the TOS.

>I mean, great? But for what purpose.
Instead of having to launch each launcher finding which game you had it on, you can just launch GOG because you can put your whole collection there.

How is it going to work to import all your games from console? GOG just gives you a PC version to play?

I guess it will only import your achievements and play time

Oh, kind of a pointless feature. I guess if you want a digital catalog of every game you own in one place it's neat but I feel it would just clog up your games list with mostly unplayable games if you have a lot of console games.

This is neat though, and seems like a more fleshed out thing than Steam's add a non Steam game feature.

I buy most of my games on GOG with a Russian VPN. As games cost me cents, most of my games are on GOG by now. 9f course it's a huge deal for me.

Ah well, found the answer.

>If you want to get access to any features specific to that platform, (like installing or auto-updating games, cloud saves, etc.), that gaming client will still have to be installed on your PC
>GOG GALAXY 2.0 will launch the other client for you in the background.

So you give Galaxy your other store account information, and it launches the needed client for you. Or all of them, if you want automatic updates.

I want to nakadashi gog-chan

This literally shits all over Epic Games

Unironically praise geraldo and fuck ching

I'll friend you m8

Signed in for the beta. Let's see how it goes on...

love it.

>I mean, great? But for what purpose.
Ever seen those jokes about eventually needing to install a launcher launcher to launch all the launchers?
Welcome to the future.

Attached: yodawg.jpg (600x399, 22K)

As it should be.

>ALL YOUR GAMES AND FRIENDS IN ONE PLACE
can we sue them for false advertising?

>Thanks for signing up for GOG GALAXY 2.0 closed beta!
>Once the beta launches, we'll start sending invitations on a first come first serve basis.

If you're interested, better sign up now than later.

Centralizing / having everything in one place
"All your games in one place" aka the argument most retards keep using to not get anything anywhere but steam.

>and fuck ching
don't look up the 2nd biggest share owner in CDPR

okay but we already have several launchers who can do these things.

How many of them have their own storefront, though?

What launchers?

If they manage to integrate with gamersgate somehow I might start buying games there again, right now navigating that site and installing games from there is a fucking pain.

playnite

>praise geraldo
These terms only return with reddit shit. Go back faggot

Attached: standards.png (500x283, 24K)

>actual CDPR people don't own >50% of shares
why haven't gooks taken over yet

Attached: file.png (742x482, 39K)

>runs the other services in the background, doesn't just check for credentials

Well, okay. If running a Steam game on GoG takes fewer resources than running the game on Steam, and doensn't enable Steam/Blizz/Epic/Uplay telemetry, then I'm converted.

if gog ever gets regional prices i'm leaving steam, the feeling of having constant online and not being sure if i actually own stuff makes me uneasy

Still more individual control

so now I can throw in my retail/pirated games into the launcher?
bye bye shortcuts

Attached: b1rZ0TX.jpg (650x399, 22K)

They'd better start adding cloud saves to older games
Only like 10 games in my library have cloud saves

Playnite can't do Sony/Xbox accounts can it?

neither can GOG Galaxy. You think you'll be able to launch your console games on PC or something?

>import from consoles
what? how the fuck are you going to import it from the platforms that the DRM is so bad that you need a shitty branded box to play the games?

Won't care until we see the UI. Thats literally all that matters with launchers.

you can literally already do this with steam

I keep my shortcuts in a pinned folder

does it work on linux yet? only reason im still using steam.

So GOG announces this shit without a shred of evidence they can pull it off outside a marketing speech press release?
I'll believe it when I see it. Until then I can use Metagamerscore to sort things somewhat.

Oh yeah they typed this up as soon as they came up with the idea

brainlet

>Xfire is back
What's even the point without my xfire gf (male)?

Ok but does steam have to be actively running?

>the first time they introduced gog galaxy it took months before it was even shown off and another year before it was even functional
>they showed off standalone gwent and it's still in beta after years and years and they had to literally gut the single player once they realized no one gave a shit about it
b-b-b-but this time they know what they are doing!!!!!!!11

ok chang

Attached: tim sweeney.png (1000x563, 154K)

only if the game uses steamworks probably

ok wang

Attached: childmolester.png (750x421, 389K)

What are you talking about?

Attached: privacy.png (1008x680, 445K)

Why would one need to install Playnite when GOG does it for you?
I think that's the point of that update.
You can't buy games from Playnite afaik, but you can in GOG, and centralize your collections as well.

Signed up for the beta. Now I wait.

Do you think they'll include emulators?
Like some launchers with the ability to play the emulated game directly through your emulator?
That'd be sweet.

I'm into that. I do love having a lot of data points to look over, even if it's just tiny stuff.

>that asslong butthurt post
Wtf is wrong with you autistic child

Brainlet here, teach me how to put pirated games on GOG launcher, user.

That's just marketing speech. Is there proof that they're not spying on you?

>10 seconds of typing time
>asslong

stop using your phone, faggot.

They said exactly what we want to hear and the things they didn't clarify they left open to our own interpretation so we can assume it's the best thing ever.
I don't give a shit what they say, the only thing that holds any weight in this industry is action.
If you take press releases at face value you're going to get burned badly and regularly.

>GOG
Who?

Ok chang

Attached: 1989 Tiananmen Square.gif (548x401, 192K)

Lying about that would get them in serious trouble, if/when caught. Especially aince they’re located in the EU.

This can be big, if people hear about the launcher, they will hear about the store.
Why my retard friends buy steam versions of games that are on gog is beyond me (one exception i can understand, proton if you're on Linux)

I have one word for you: Steam achievements.

I agree but they operate out of Europe so GDPR can't be sidestepped as easily.
Who knows what that law will actually do but they have to be aware of it. That is the one thing in the press release that I truly believe since there are actual laws to enforce it.

This will kill steam

Oh yeah, that too, I never really cared about them, it's not like anyone is checking out achievements on your profile. But I understand it gets into peoples minds, so they want them.

As long as steam works, I don't have a reason to switch to any other client no matter how good it is.
Sorry if it sounds like a shill post, but it's the truth.

Don't know how you get I'm with Epic for criticizing GOG. I fucking hate Epic, I'm Steam all the way.
I just want to challenge GOG to make an actually good launcher that does all it says and I don't want fucking braindead anons spamming GOG shit all over this board for the next year as they fail to actually push it out the door.

Can you add non-mainstream programs, such as pirated game exes?

You can always buy a gog game and add a shortcut to steam launcher.

You can already add links to pirated games on Steam and display on friends that you're playing them. You can also use Steam's controller system to rebind controllers and inputs. Hell you can even take screenshots in them and Steam will save them for you.

Maybe the GOG launcher is even better in that regard. But so far we only have a press release and "please sign up for our beta whenever".

I already use Playnite so this isn't useful.

So like Playnite?

While I kinda use it, the whole launcher for a launcher concept confuses me somewhat.

youtu.be/KY5229ZWxqM

Maybe you have to import the data with a click or something instead of having it automatically do it. Or at least maybe it at least asks more permissions because it is going to have to go through some of your information with the profiles you give it to accomplish what it says.

This still won't get devs to update GoG games.

Kek you're right the launcher situation has gotten so bad now products are getting developed to manage launchers.
