How come no one talks about Odyssey anymore on this board? We still have constant threads for 64, Sunshine and Galaxy, but not this one. I wonder why?

It's easier to talk about old games because you can put them in context in terms of what came before and after

What do you want to talk about ? Boring gameplay, average graphics, no scenario no difficulty nothing is worth talking about

maybe I'm wrong since I haven't played it but the level design in odyssey just looks forgettable to me in the reviews I've watched. Just looks like an open place to collect objects in, instead of complex platforming.

Pretty much, even the final dark side of the moon level is casual baby shit compared to the 3D world one

Unless somebody's dumping porn of Pauline, Peach, Hariet, her fatass mom or even guitar-Rosalina, nobody is really up for talking about their best balloon race times.

The moons dont feel like an accomplishment to get because the game just spits them out at you
Older games you had to run a long hard gauntlet just to get a star or sprite

it's a shame, since mario's movement looks really good and responsive

Odyssey is best when you just rush through every level and get to the end. THEN come back and collect all the moon's.

If you just collect everything you get fatigued as fuck. Oh neat, I lifted a rock for a moon. Wow, I slammed the ground for a moon wow.

but you have to get 500 of the fuckers to get to the dark side challenge and by the end my opinion of the game went from mostly positive to furiously opposed

Yeah I mean this completely diffuses your point if to enjoy the game you have to rush to the end to THEN collect the moons. Guess what the requirement is to get to that point?

a hat in time killed odyssey.
/thread

Because the main campaign was amazing, but the post-game was just fucking awful. I literally stopped collecting the moons because of how tedious and boring it was, and just ended up buying them at the shop until I unlocked Darker Side.

I love Odyssey but I know Odyssey 2 will probably be 100x better

We don't have threads about Galaxy, and 64/Sunshine have nostalgia value.

Odyssey is the best Mario game.

Anyway, you want a game that's really been forgotten, this fucking turd. Nobody even wants it ported to Switch.

It is. And you can do some really fun manuevers like getting up Top Hat Tower without the Frog.

Mario Odyssey is definitely a game I found myself wishing had more content because it's just so fun to play. True successor to Mario 64/Sunshine. I can't wait for Odyssey 2.

This. I beat the game and don't remember a single level

I fucking do. 3D World is one of the best Mario games ever and Champions Road is gaming kino.

>A tranny in time
Lol nice try thanks for playing

thats right. its essentially shovelware and an early draft of a game. everythings there and functional. but nothing is really there. there is no design. its 2 handfuls of big open flat levels with collectibles thrown up all over the place. still waiting for a good modern nintendo game that nots mario kart 8. maybe next gen

>We still have constant threads for 64, Sunshine and Galaxy
I mean, do we? I'm not really seeing it, even when you account for most 64 threads just being Pannenkoek threads at this point.

where is the port fucking Nintendo?
I need this and Game & Wario, and I will be able to entirely skip the disaster Wii U was

Game & Wario is a total piece of shit, why do you want it?

64 and Sunshine can be called that twicefold user.

I haven't tried yet, I don't have a Wii U and I don't want to buy that accessory just for that game that is being held hostage.

Is that bad? it doesn't feel like Wario Ware?

i hate these faggots who start threads knowing that the shit they say is not true just to falseflag their garbage opinions. kill yourself.

Odyssey felt like it was too much about quantity, not quality. Sure, the main mission moons were mostly fine and there were some really nifty side areas, but for each of them, there were ten moons that were just ”do some boring and mundane stuff” or ”look at this hidden cubbyhole”. I’d have cut down the number of moons dramatically (something like 1/2), and then had put a bit more effort in each of them.

>We don't have threads about Galaxy
False.

>and 64/Sunshine have nostalgia value
Okay and? Nostalgia bias aside those games are fondly remembered because they were good.

>Odyssey is the best Mario game.
Subjective opinion. Many people dislike it.

>Anyway, you want a game that's really been forgotten, this fucking turd. Nobody even wants it ported to Switch.
Absolutely wrong. One of the most requested Switch ports. Also, 3D World gets a spot in Mario Maker 2. Cope harder Söydesseylet. Your game is only good for Pauline porn.

this is so blatantly wrong. no one will care about odyssey in a few years like how no one cares for 3d world. 64 and sunshine will always be remembered and sought after. the switch is a worthless device propped up by all inclusive marketing and "hype" (obese nu males here, reddit, neofag, and gamefags)

Odyssey is faux-Sandbox 3D Mario
every other obstacle i head to is always linear as fuck like in 3D Land

fuck that

It's a fine game but that's it. There isn't much to talk about since no one really loves nor hates it

>We still have constant threads for 64
>le building speed, an X isn't an X, scuttle_bug.png
>Sunshine
>everyone shitting on it now
>Galaxy
>always some user posting bait by saying it's the best in the entire Mario SERIES

>pretending any Mario games besides the spin-offs like Mario Maker have any discussion left to have

Playing through it right now, at about 650 moons, having a blast, didn't know people hate it

It's like as if the younger interns at EAD Tokyo spent years engaged with linear 3D design with Galaxy/Galaxy 2 and 3D Land/World to the point where they can only mimick 64 and Sunshine gameplay halfheartedly without understanding how it all connected in the first place. Platforming challenges were baked into the levels organically and every mission was more fleshed out and harder than just ground pounding 20 mounds i the ground. You can see how lost they were when designing this game, they added in sub-areas that are JUST like a 3D World level for the meat of the actual platforming. Letting them have moons strewn about the map hurt the level design and progression. The Switch itself is to blame. Had it come out on Wii U it would have been way better, they wouldn't use the GamePad so much and it wouldn't be held back by arbitrary conditions like "Oh what if Joe Kazuki is on his train trip to his business office and he's bored with his Switch? Oh I know let him collect 10 moons in 3 minutes that will cheer him up.".

This. With the amount of moons the game has, it’s not realistic to expect that all of them would be interesting to get - would have be better to reduce the amount, so that the developers could have focused on giving individual moons more gravitas.

It's a nice, wholesome, sometimes clever game, the way only nintendo makes them. It'll never be talked about as much as any other aaa game
