Capcom has tried twice now (three times if you count mahvel 3) to do the overwatch-style seasonal DLC approach and it's failed both times. They need to invest in a really big game at launch, this strategy is not working.

Thanos already had sprites from being MSH's boss. I forget if he was ever playable though, also his moveset is weird and he has bubbles and shit as projectiles. One thing Infinite did right was completely redesign the moveset for Thanos into something fitting (before botching him in the story).

The meta revolves around MSS with the only characters generally allowed to slot in for one of those three being Cable, Cyclops, Psylocke, and CapCom, and three of those are mostly for assists. You occasionally had Spiral players, cl0ck running Strider/Doom, Josh360 running Iron Man, shit like that, but the meta was so centralized that the size of the roster barely mattered. It's so unbalanced that you can feel it in casual play.

None of the lower tiers are fun to play if you're facing someone with Magneto or Cable on their team.

I've labbed out 3's roster for over 1000 hours. The only characters that I didn't find any fun to play are Jill, Strider, Chun, Trish, X-23, & Magneto, and I know there are people who will argue against me on Strider/Mags. If it wasn't for KI2013, UMvC3 would have the most fun and imaginative roster in a fighter this decade by sheer volume.
