How would you make a new SH?

I’d get Kojima to help me

PT was the best ending for it
fight me

Get team silent together for one last score

Get team silent to do it instead of outsourcing it to ameritards.

Please not again

More diversity, tired of the old all wh*te cast when the setting is in America

Sell it to Sony and let Toyama do his best.

SH3 was their last score
Ito and Owaku(?) already said that multiple times.

>semi opened overworld, something like sh1 or 2 but way bigger. Also make the "dungeons" non linear.
>sh2 cold atmosphere + sh3 abrassive atmosphere
>sh4 hauntings
>make the combat hard to make you choose to fight or run, so you manage your resources like a real old school survival horror game.
>Sh4 melee combat. Also I'd like to see re4 kind of estatic gun combat, but without aiming cursor to increase the tension

I wouldn't, I'd remake 1 to play exactly the same but have the visual fidelity of SH3, then leave the franchise the everloving fuck alone.

Not bad ideas

I wouldn't. I'd take some idea from the series and make my own thing out of ir.

Consider that Silent Hill is not just a mirror for the inner psychological demons of its visitors, but instead a repository- it first extracts them, then it collects them. This could serve as an explanation for why Pyramid Head is still dicking around (heh) decades after James Sunderland has gone to who-knows-where.

Visitor sees the cultist demons of the religious nutjobs, sees the rape demons of James, sees the tortured forgotten half of Heather from Silent Hill 3, etc. etc. one callback after another until they're finally left with a demon of their own creation, RNG-crafted/chosen by the actions the player has chosen to make over the course of the game.

fully 3D backgrounds. limited ammo but an option to create non-lethal or instakill ammo by sacrificing health items. a "fixed" panning camera.
also the enemies are all dinosaurs
I'll call it dino crisis

Attached: that's disgusting.gif (356x208, 1.09M)

10/10

do you think dino crisis has a big enough fanbase to really warrant a modern AAA title?

yes

>indie game developers constantly making SH and RE ripoffs
>never touch DC

I wonder why

because DC is basically the same thing but with dinosaurs

seems like it has a niche fanbase that want more though

nobody would mind new AAA game about Dinos, but if it will be anything like old Dino Crisis, it will be shit.

false

>boring locations
>slow gameplay
>5 enemy types, but it's mostly raptors
>shit story
>endless trigger hunting
>puzzles about moving the boxes
>QTE
Yeah, "false"

Never touched a lot of the games.
Do people actually play the game for gameplay?
I remember seeing a lot of people enjoying PT quite a bit. If the positive reception of that game reflects anything to future possibilities, I think going all in on the intrigue of the city and horror elements, rather than pushing a bunch of gimmicky gameplay elements to substitute horror, is the way to go. Beyond the drawn out dread that everyone sucks PT's dick for, as someone new to the franchise I think Silent Hill can still make a great horror story out of it's concept and atmosphere.
As someone who hasn't played all of them, I probably couldn't nail it down without fucking with long term fans.

you're a giant homosexual

SH4 was

I think the majority of SH fans would agree with you that the gameplay ain't that great and that they're playing for the atmosphere and story. That said, I also felt like P.T. appealed to a much broader audience and probably alienated the core SH fanbase. After years of absolute western garbage though, I was open for Kojima's take on the franchise.

i'm sorry what game from your childhood is such shit.

ditch cult shit

I'd rather see a Silent Hill game with more depth in gameplay mechanics, not less. And less cringe in the storytelling, not more.

Take Darkwood's mechanics, make it third person and set it in Silent Hill.

SH4 isn't bad. It's the least good of the great ones.

user it's literally the best survival horror game ever made
brainlet

That’s a super cool concept. With the right execution, this could be something really special.

I disagree

Metal Gear Rising is proof that anything is better with the absence of Kojima, even something as bad as Metal Gear.

*Blocks your path*

>user it's literally the best survival horror game ever made
maybe if you're 5 y.o. and really like dinos

Did you see final boss of that game? It's better than anything Kojima ever did.

No one thinks the gameplay is that great, but its mediocre gameplay is 100% design choice that enhances the atmosphere and survival, on top of the spook factor.

SH2 is the only video game id ever call a masterpiece, its one of the best games ever made and it has the worst gameplay and its the easiest. SH1 is overall fantastic, its the hardest and its relentless. SH3 is a mishmash of 1 and 2, absolutely god tier sound design and Heather is one of the best female protags in gaming and in horror because SHE QUESTIONS SHIT.

SH4 is a weird one, its very lit up(no flashlight ever) and the areas are very dreamlike, but it has The Room part of the game in your apartment which is in first person and a small puzzle type thing with something called "hauntings" dont google what they are, its the key feature to it and no other game has done it. Its the weakest but its miles ahead of other horror games.

All SH1-4 are worth playing, and none of the others are EXCEPT shattered memories but its completely different but its not nearly as great as SH1-3. Once you play SH1/2/3 you will end up realizing how shit most other horror games are.

I played this, and while every fucking e-celeb were dead wrong on the game
>lol you just poke threw fences!

You actually had to use fucking stealth, it had atmosphere, and the interior parts were legit great. It has 3 actual bosses, and a rather decent story.

>best games ever made
>it has the worst gameplay

kek. Anyway, sh2 is hardly a masterpiece, even despite emotional and grounded in the reality story.

>Heather is one of the best female protags in gaming and in horror
>because SHE QUESTIONS SHIT.

Heather is dumbest cunt in vidya. Even Chloe isn't that bad.

I agree. I think a fresh take is a welcome one, PT speaks for itself, but I can imagine
>probably alienated the core SH fanbase
this. There's likely something hardcore fans can pinpoint as SH, some theme running throughout, that I personally couldn't pinpoint, that would likely get obtuse in a fresh take.
The idea that the gameplay adds an element to the horror is an interesting take. Since you've played the other games and appreciate them for their good points and flaws, how did you feel about PT's gameplay changes?

By not making another one. Only women and children get scared by things. As an adult man I wouldn't be intimidated or scared by anything. If your over 16 and have a dick you should be able to walk innawoods by yourself during the night with not a single shred of fear. Only low test overgrown boys women and girls fear things.

I "dropped" sh2 right after meeting Maria because I didn't want a companion. I was having a decent amount of fun, but you can run past the enemies and the only "challenges" were the puzzles. Is it really worth playing? please no spoilers

Yeah James killed his wife

Maria is a companion for maybe ~10 of the game and she can't die or be hurt. It's basically just the hospital level that she is with you.

Yes it is.

based

>is one of the best videogames ever made worth playing?
Damn I dont know user, thats a tough one

Play it and close the thread immediately you fool.

Could do a story centered around one of the members of the now defunct cult. 1 gave us why the town is how it is. 2 showed us how the town works through this influence. 3 combined both of these and tied the bow on Alessa's story line. 4 gave us a look into the other workings of the cult outside of the branch from 1/3. A sequel would be a great time to get the perspective of a cult member in the town after everything fell apart,

Covers all the bases, gives a good opportunity to learn more about the cult and the town while a member of the cult could provide a perspective unique to satiate the people who just want a SH2 remix.

Give it to one of Sony's big western devs. Would get guaranteed 95+ metascore with tons of awards.

>explain magic and bureaucracy of cult

good thing sh is dead.

So essentially almost Downpour

You realize SH1-4 all give information on the rituals and organization of the cult right? I'm simply saying playing from the perspective of someone who was involved but is disillusioned could be a good angle to divulge other tidbits from.

and that's why sh2, which has almost none of this shit, is considered the best one storywise.

Nobody cares about rituals and gods and all that crap. People like sh3 because of Heather and sh4 because of Walter.

Origns and Homecoming gave central part of the story to cults and they're worst.

SH 1 remake. More houses and places to explore. Route A and B, with different enemies, items and story.

This. They need to drop the whole silent hill aspect since the IP has been worked to death. Just make an unrelated psy horror story.

Origins and Homecoming were bad games with or without the cult.

Idk never played it. Looking forward to play it. I heard it's bad tho

they didn't have anything else besides cults and rituals.

It's mediocre with the story that so idiotic that I want to rip out my hair apart. But I still think that it's the best western SH. Quite ambitious too.

SH2 is only good because of SH1, they could focus on an independent story because of what the previous title built for them.

SH2 only story alone is extremely mediocre and cliche, it excels because of the setting and the setting only means a damn thing because of the first game.

The first game was entirely focused on rituals and gods and it not only outsold 2 by a good margin but 1/3 are more often cited in my experience as being favorites by people who actually played the entire series. 2 is more often parroted as the absolute best by people who could care less about the overall story and say they like 2 to be artsy game snobs.

and origin, homecoming, downpour were all trying to be SH2 and look where that got them. Maybe the cult and lore didn't kill them, maybe they were just shit games.

Don't forget about the ending where the cops daughter is the actual criminal, which literally makes zero sense to the point it's shocking.

>SH2 is only good because of SH1,

Kek

>SH2 only story alone is extremely mediocre and cliche, it excels because of the setting and the setting only means a damn thing because of the first game.

Most people, who played sh2 and call it masterpiece, never played sh1.

>The first game was entirely focused on rituals and gods

No, it's about Alessa, Dahlia is lying about everything to Harry, so we don't know anything, even name of the god.

>origin, homecoming, downpour were all trying to be SH2

Only downpour is something like that. Travis didn't give a fuck about anything, he was more angry and confused why is attacked by his dead parents. Alex was just an idiot, who killed his brother by accident and created backstory in his head without any magic, unlike James.

My point wasn't about cult stuff ruining those two games, it was about how they didn't do anything good for them. They're so useless, they're just of time.

Bait or not kill yourself for typing out this trash

i honestly don't think you can.
it's better to just make a separate game

Just repeat with a new story. Every Silent Hill game is very similar
They are real quality though

>all those years believing tomm hulett ruined SH
>turns out he really was a true fan that just got screwed over the people he worked with and by nerds on youtube.

Yeah, that's pretty sad

>sh4 is quality

Attached: 1507142653345.png (276x277, 150K)

yeah, nah. he had full control of downpour and still made a bad game.

Attached: rosseter.jpg (2048x1158, 211K)

Didnt get to play PT, and it wasnt gonna be exactly that, the new silent hills was gonna have combat so we dont know. PT is a walking sim, probably the best one, but it was a teaser.

>Most people, who played sh2..

I agree.

>No, it's about Alessa, Dahlia is lying...

Doesn't mean it doesn't focus on rituals and the cult, just means we/Harry was lied to. The rug being pulled under our feet doesn't mean the way the information was presented or that information itself was any less interesting.

>Only downpour is something like that...

They're still all trying to be SH2 clones by copying the "Figure has traumatic event" + "Has amnesia or forces themselves to forget" + "big reveal that they have been lying to themselves and must face their sins". Extra credit if there's a carbon copy of Pyramid head.

>My point wasn't about cult stuff ruining...

and my point was that very much like the SH2 format, this information can be presented correctly or incorrectly. If you make it omnipresent and force it down a players throat like Homecoming/Origins then yeah it's gonna suck. Drip feed it like 1/3/4 and the result is much better.

is that the thot Fungo and him fought over?

Twin Perfect? more like twin cringe

nope, that was devin shatsky.
hulett was running shattered memories at that time.

Yes. Even with its flaws, it's a good game. Just don't compare it with the previous games.

Honestly, the series is sorta done. There's not much else you can do with the concept and it has used up all of its potential.
I'd try to do something new, but if it really had to be SH related, a REmake-level remake of the first 4 games I guess.

no that's bronze

Attached: bronze.png (630x617, 446K)

is she still with fungo?

oh shit now i remember her from fungo's old streams, shit so ross got cucked. was there ever anymore to that story? last I heard fungo was beating her or some shit and ross showed up in the rain with a boombox to save the day.

she hasn't mentioned him on her twitter in a year so probably not

It is really nice. Re-using the maps is just tedious though
youtube.com/watch?v=AXhoD9MUDts

she asked ross to come get her so ross/fuzh travelled across a couple states to pick her up and she basically told them to go away when they got there. whether fungo was actually beating her or not is kinda iffy. at any rate, neither of them have improved in their quality or quantity of content since so it was the worse overall.

Why do you want the game to be shit.?

> it doesn't focus on rituals and the cult

yet, we don't know much about cult and rituals.

>"Figure has traumatic event" + "Has amnesia or forces themselves to forget" + "big reveal that they have been lying to themselves and must face their sins

SH3 fits this description more than Origins or Homecoming.

Also, what sins? Alex did his thing by accident, he didn't want to kill his brother and Travis did nothing at all.

>and my point was that very much like the SH2 format,

SH2 doesn't use cult, it doesn't need cult at all. It has ending connected to rituals, but it has same place in the game, like Dog ending or UFO ending(and those are much better).

Nobody cares about SH3 or SH4 because of cult, it's because of "Heather is cute!" or "Walter is cool tragic character!". Cult's stuff is generic and can't give any depth to the story.

>just don't expect anything good and maybe you will like it
great line of defence

i think Homecoming has better ost then the room

>like Dog ending or UFO ending(and those are much better).

wew actually had me going there thinking this was serious. I'll admit it, I've been rused.

>ritual ending is better in any way when Dog ending

rare opinion.

>had me going there thinking this was serious.

I didn't take you seriously at all though

>i think Homecoming has better ost then the room

retch

it is, you should listen it, before making comments

I mean, you know what they was created by the same person, right?

less faggy story, non-shit combat, more enemies, less retarded puzzles that made no sense.

I know, but I thought it was extremely phoned in.

>less retarded puzzles that made no sense.
Such as?

the entire hospital section in sh2 comes to mind. I got so bored there I quit and never even finished it. did finish 3 though, much better game.

The one where you are supposed to interact with a toilet and choose "Yes" when it asks you if you want to shove your hand in there.

I can't fucking believe how far we've fallen. I remember it like yesterday, 1999. Looking at Silent Hill 1 and then shortly thereafter 2, thinking how amazing the future would be. Little did I know then, that it would only get worse very soon. REMake and SH2 were the last great fixed camera third person style horror games. Yes I am including SH3 in the list of where things went wrong, just like RE4.

>How would you make a new SH?

I would begin by addressing some of the major flaws of the previous games, as they are not good horror games. They lack Resident Evil's tension of managing limited resources while backtracking frequently, or any sort of engaging gameplay.

Silent Hill 2 in particular is one of the most egregious cases of ludonarrative dissonance I have ever seen. What the hell are arcade-style bullet sponge bosses doing in a psychological drama about an ordinary man coming to terms with his grief and guilt? Were the developers so lazy they couldn't think of any thematically appropriate obstacles for the protagonist to overcome?

Then there are the hours of cutscenes that undermine the atmosphere. You will never be surprised or caught offguard by anything, because as soon as something scary threatens to happen, the game takes control away from you and plays a lengthy cutscene that showcases the scary thing from every possible angle. This destroys any tension, immersion, as well as any sense of horror, since the character is safe from harm during the cutscenes.

The game is also guilty of the same thing as The Sixth Sense: a plot twist that makes no sense, because it relies on the main character being oblivious to things he should know. The plot twist in The Sixth Sense makes no sense because Bruce Willis' character should be aware of his ghost status everytime he enters a locked door by phasing through it or does something else ghostly. The movie contrivedly always avoids showing instances like these to fool the audience, but that doesn't explain why the main character is also shocked by the plot twist. Ditto for Silent Hill 2's James Sunderland. Yes, he's repressing painful memories, but he shouldn't behave like he has amnesia just to facilitate a plot twist.

The dialogue and voice acting are just bad. The story is supposed to be mature and unnerving, but the awful dialogue and delivery makes it difficult to take seriously.

can we have dino crisis guy back?

Geez. That's a good question. I love Silent Hill but I have no idea how to make a new one that's not redundant.

I'm gonna say make it Open World. A large part of it would be set in the "real" Silent Hill, the one regular people see, a quaint little lakeside town. It would at the very least start off quite innocently, you're playing a regular person on a vacation. I'm kinda thinking of female protagonist. The beginning of the game consists of sightseeing, meeting some supporting characters, getting to know the town with only occasional glimpses of the otherworld and the monsters therein. So there's sort of a gradual decline where the further you progress into the game you get pulled into the otherworld more often and it becomes harder and harder to escape. You uncover some dark secret about the protagonist. I think she could be a former or an active prostitute or a porn actress. I'd like her otherworld to be one based mostly on sexual anxieties. Lots of sexual imagery, think H.R. Giger or Eraserhead.

I guess it would be sort of a cross between Deadly Premonition with actual production values, Alan Wake and regular Silent Hill.

>I love Silent Hill but I have no idea how to make a new one that's not redundant.
Just make new things and don't make obvious references to the old things.

Crossover with Pink Floyd. It'll be called Silent Hill 5: The Wall.

This.
Give 'em unlimited budget and development time to boot.

Most of main folks of the TS have stated being interested of doing a come-back if given a chance.

New Silent Hil.
Main character is middle aged man who's going on a road trip with his wife and two daughters. They stop at what appears to be an abandoned Gas Station. Main character goes to the station's store to see if there's anyone (It's empty) When he comes out of the store he finds that his family is gone but the car is still there. Suddenly there's fog everywhere. He gets in the car with the little amount of gas that he has left and arrives to a nearby G H O S T T O W N.
We later discover that the main character killed his entire family while drunk driving 5 years ago. He also used to cheat on his wife and lie about it when her daughters discovered his affair. The T O W N punishes him psychologically and main character kills himself.
The end.

are you actually want to make new game about guy killing his wife and forgetting about it? Are you dumb?

Main character is a rapist or paedophile but not revealed til the end

it doesn't take place at all in silent hill, and you're in a locked room

guy drives a car on the roads close to the Location, he gets into car accident because of moose and pass out. When he wakes up, he notices what person who was in trunk of his car escaped. He follows.

It's not even the same as SH2. Shut up

Anyone have the PC Chart?
Also do they work on W10?

I will never see what people see in SH3. Garbage game through and through, fancy visuals aside.
