Agree, I love the photo backgrounds and the fact they're all real world locations, but they don't jive at all with the updated sprites.

I don't really like how over the top the PS3 sprites make her faces. It's exactly like the Higurashi and Umineko anime where they try to embellish those aspects for the creep factor. A lot of the original VNs is creepy through text descriptions, not wacky faces.

I read them before the ps3 version came out so the old character models and backgrounds grew on me, and they're pretty expressive without being over the top like some of the updated models are like here Even if you really hate the character models, the sound design will make you forget them.

Umineko might be my biggest disappointment vs the expectations set up by Yea Forums.. It is just shit.
Ep1 sets up interesting setting, Ep2 was great, but with Ep3 and the witch battles and shifting focus onto meta instead of mystery just kills it for me. Ep4 with Ange and the "real" world just decimate any interest.
The only interesting aspects of further episodes are Dlanor and Erika, but they can't alone bootstrap this pile of shit out of misery.
The twist and explanations are utter garbage, cheap, not satisfying and don't make sense. I fast forwarded half of episode 8 just to see the ending because I couldn't stand the retardation being spewed by all characters.

The first four chapters are basically what you said.
5 to 8 differ vastly from 4 to 8. 7 and 8 more so than 5 and 6. 5 and 6 add more variation to the story than 1-4 do, though. A lot of 1-4 is repetitive. Good but there are not a lot of new characters or anything.

Fuck if I know. The thing that caught my attention was the constant mentioning of eighth grader syndrome in EP4 and remembering it being brought up really early on in EP1. My train of thought went from that to the whole "Braun Tube" analogy from EP3 and I just kind of started rocketing through solving or at least understanding shit from there.

The exact moment I realized how everything was working and the general gist of what was going on was in EP5 when Erika literally took away the illusion of magic and showed that Natsuhi was just sitting in the garden alone. By the end of EP5 I had everything but the culprit figured out. My theory at the time was that Shannon and Kannon were accomplices.

There were some dudes that had fucking AMAZINGLY close theories as early as EP2 but like I said earlier, there was no way to check your answers until much later so even if you somehow got it all right off the bat with sheer luck and momentary genius, you wouldn't know.

Most notably Ange getting turned into hamburger and the entire post quiz scene in EP8. Most of my family is dead IRL and died within my own life time and my little sister is pretty much guaranteed to be my only family moving forward. R07 captured the feeling of missing out when Ange fell asleep in the middle of that party. Holy shit it really feels like one moment is all it takes to turn so many people into memories and nothing more. I'm tearing up as I'm writing this.
