It had the same problem Harvest Moon has, just even more severe - once you've taken the initial optimization hurdles there's not much else left to do. I didn't even play past year 1 because by then I was raking the money in way faster than I could spend it

imo the problem is that the game allows for some automation, which limits the amount of tasks you have to do, but then doesn't allow further automation which would enable massive upscaling.
so you just make the game more repetitive by reducing the amount of tasks you have to do.

i'm still working on upgrading buildings. starfruit wine will make me a shitload of money but it also takes longer to make.

Agreed. It's almost a perfect game, but it desperately needs more on the strategic/regional layer. Layer some light civ style faction and global army shit on there. If I'm in an isolated valley I shouldn't get the same traffic as a colony near 4 other settlements and on an ancient highway at that. And not even anything like coastal raiding? I get the low and isolated tech shit going on, but anyone should be able to build a few skiffs and raid up and down coasts in decent weather.
